that's not true, it's totally fine to care what other people think. we're social creatures, your life depends on other people, all of our lives do from an evolutionary standpoint. it's totally okay to consider other people's views of you, it's so normal. it doesn't mean being beholden to people's opinions and not moving unless they approve...

and transparently it's giving low self-esteem when people think "caring what other people think" = thinking negative things about yourself or not being able to have a self concept independent of that... being open to people's opinions about you can help you improve as a person to your community and for your own wellbeing. why do we assume "others" think negative things or things that wouldn't benefit us? feedback can be valuable to improve etc. etc. idk i... think this is a sentiment to carry when your prefrontal cortex hasn't developed yet and you're trying to reassure yourself about being insecure
