Too much “Toriel is a bad mother,” it’s time for ASGORE IS A SHITTY FATHER ON GOD. Warning for some Asgore hate!
Genuinely, who says this to their child? Who puts that fucking pressure on them?
If I said that Asgore, and the way he treated Chara was a contributing factor to WHY the buttercup plan happened. The way Chara’s speech in the genocide route may imply that it believed they didn’t deserve to live for failing the buttercup plan. The transition of mentioning the plan and then questioning why they’re alive is so sad.
That their next statement, where they find reasoning for their reincarnation, they mention their ‘purpose.’ Would imply Chara also saw the buttercup plan, as their purpose. The plan to save and free Monsterkind. Because they’re Monsterkind’s “Future.” Their “Hope.” Just like their Dad said. And that failing it meant not having a reason to live?
Couple that with their probably already bad self esteem issues with being a human and feeling like they don’t fit into the family entirely. They call Asgore “Mr. Dad Guy,” instead of just “Dad” or “Father,” which gives me the vibes that they see him as a Dad, and want him to see them as their child, but are wording it in a way with all the extra words (especially with the specific words “Mr.” and “Dad” that contrast and add a level of formality and emotional disconnect) because they feel insecure about themselves being part of the family and fully calling him Dad.
They still knit the sweater, still called him Dad. They want Asgore to be their dad, and him keeping the sweater shows he DOES care about Chara, but like man. You don’t put your child on a pedestal. AND?
He doesn’t even call them his child? Like, is there a part where he does? It’s “my child,” not “my children.” It’s “the human,” not “MY CHILD.” BROTHER ON GOD.
Goes on about Asriel’s death in the Nuetral speech, but not Chara’s???????
And I know, he probably said what he said because he just wanted Monsterkind to have hope, but I cannot express how detrimental to Chara’s mental health to put make them that hope, and put that pressure on them.
So, Yeah, Asgore’s words probably fueled Chara to not just do it, but continue it when that’s what he was saying as they were dying. And I know he said those words while they’re dying, because he wanted it to live, and didn’t know about the plan. But also, not something you should be saying to your child either way Like. If I said there’s a reason Chara copies TORIEL’s speech pattern, and NOT Asgores. 💀 Yeah..
ANYWAYS. That’s the end of my “ANTI-ASGORE” PSA and “please love your girl boss Toriel” propaganda (despite barley mentioning her) LMAOOOOOO
That being said, I do love Asgore. Both as a standalone character, and also because he is Chara’s father, and they love him so I want to love him. But, I’m still going to point out his flaws. I’m pissed how he treated Chara.
