TAMMY WHEN I CATCH YOU TAMMY
Masahisa Fukase: Sasuke. 1977
âWe asked Finn to carry a lot of emotional weight this seasonâ
DID HE REFUSE?
so... the duffers don't understand what being queer is like and how hard your first coming out is. How important and personal it is. Especially in the 80s???? There is absolutely no way a queer boy in the 80s would gather fucking everyone including his old science teacher and muray?? And Kali who he just met?? For his first verbal coming out. There is no way. And he said it bc he thought vecna would use his secrets against him. He wasn't ready đ there's no way he could be đ I say this as a queer person. I hate this. Istg I'm about to pull a Stanley uris
Okay, so, I do think Will needed to be honest and come out, but the way they did it genuinely felt like the Duffers grabbed a plot point from a bad fanfiction.
Because it didnât feel like Will chose that moment because he was ready â it felt like Vecna cornered him into it. Like the narrative needed a Big Confession Scene and went âNOW!!!â and Iâm sitting here thinking Will deserved a version of this that wasnât basically supernatural blackmail. Coming out is already terrifying, making it âdo it or everyone will dieâ is⊠ugh. Plus, it seemed like the Duffers genuinely just wanted getting it over with, they didn't even show us what exactly had Will seen when Vecna corrupted his mind.
And the staging was so weird too?? Itâs framed like âtell the people who matter,â but then itâs not just Joyce/Jonathan/Mike/his actual inner circle â itâs everyone standing there like an audience. Like help why are people as Murray or Vickie there (him and Vickie hadn't even had a propper conversation before that day) đ what are they doing in Willâs most intimate moment please be serious.
Will literally got tortured into coming out to an entire group of people because he was so scared of vecna using his sexuality against him and weâre supposed to feel gratified ??? Weâre supposed to feel seen and understood by this?? You can tell two straight men wrote this shitâŠ
the duffers said lumax endgame fuck everybody else
Okay so before anything idk if this is a popular opinion or not, I js finished watching vol2, but from what I've been reading, I feel like people are completely missing the point of the Jancy breakup scene because theyâre treating it like âoh this proves endgame/not endgameâ when⊠thatâs literally not what the scene is saying at all.
First of all, yes, it was a breakup scene. But what made it so beautiful (and honestly kinda rare to see written this way) is that itâs not framed as betrayal or cruelty or âI stopped caring.â Itâs framed as two people who do love each other, but whose connection was built in a very specific context: survival, trauma, dependency, fear. They were each otherâs anchor when everything was falling apart. That love is REAL. That bond is REAL. But it doesnât automatically mean âand therefore they should stay together forever no matter what.â
They basically say it out loud: theyâre two different people who, in addition, don't even fully know what they want yet. Outside of the constant chaos, they donât actually share that muchâinterests, what they want their future to look like, expectations, all of it. And when the only thing holding you together is need (and the fear of losing what you survived together), it turns into pressure. It turns into drowning each other. They start protecting the relationship with lies, because the truth feels like it might break it. Thatâs not romance, thatâs a slow panic.
And Iâm sorry but⊠would people genuinely prefer they stay in something that requires them to keep lying out of fear? Like, a marriage thatâs basically âwe made it through hell together so now we owe each other a life we donât actually wantâ? Thatâs not a win. Thatâs tragic.
However, once again, the scene isnât suggesting that their love was meaningless. Quite on the contrary, this love mattered enough to be honest about what it is and what it isnât. Sometimes the healthiest thing you can do is admit that love alone isnât a plan. It doesnât make the love less importantâit makes it more human.
And also: itâs not even written like some dramatic FINAL door slam?? Itâs literally two young adults who donât know what comes next, choosing honesty over clinging. They might find their way back to each other later in life. They might not. But if they do, it wonât be because theyâre trapped in the trauma version of themselvesâitâll be because they actually choose each other as whole people. And that would be real.
Anyway. I'm actually so impressed. Like, the little symbolisms and references... I already kind of expected that neither Jancy nor Stancy would be endgame but that was like so fucking beautiful, I genuinely cried.
4 MORE MINUTES I BET NETFLIX IS GOING TO GET LAGGY AGAIN
How Iâll look at my tv if I see robin or Vickie get slimed out in 3 hours and âvideo killed the radio starâ starts playing:
This is the kinda state you guys are gonna find me in tonight no matter what the outcome is
May the odds be ever in our favorâŠ
(This gif reminds me of how bylers are treated in the fandom đ)
both your hands in the holes of my sweater (i was sleeping) tgc @bylerw
the way you just know that will would still have been down horrendously bad for mike even if he had got that fuckass mohawk
this is still so funny to me bc mikeâs hand not doin anything he just took the opportunity to hold willâs im crying this is the greed they talk about in the bible
