Are american lolitas low-key evil?
Okay no I'm kidding, kind of, PLEASE hear me out-
I've been in the internet lolita community since 6th grade (for perspective I'm now beginning uni), but it was only 9 months ago that I started wearing the fashion.
I'm Mexican, however I've been mainly on the English side of the online lolita community, since there were way fewer lolitas in MΓ©xico in the 2000s, and I always had the notion that experienced lolitas were strict and scary, seeing 'em call each other ita forβ well, nearly anything, not coordinating in a certain way, reusing coords, not wearing makeup or wearing too much makeup, I've heard that "post-decora lolita is ugly" and that "casual lolita is lazy" like, y'all know the typa stupid discourse I'm talking about, right?
Even from some very known lolitas on the internet I've always felt a very passive aggressive vibe when it comes to discussing others way's of wearing lolita. And tbh I didn't even think that was wrong, I just accepted that apparently most of the experienced lolitas were mean. I didn't even wanna post my coords or reach out to other lolitas in my city once I started wearing it, bc I didn't wanna comply to some of the rules they cry about so much, I don't care for petticoats, I hate WEARING accessories n wigs, I'll probably never even buy any more brand besides the 1 BTSSB I've got, oh and I don't like tea BAHAHAHA. So like, why even bother?
A week ago I attended my first tea party, yeah, the hypocrisy, I know. I did went in a little nervous ngl, and met lolitas from all over Mexico and when I tell you they were just the SWEETEST PIE'S EVER, I had the best time and they all loved my handmade coord! I was considerably newer at the style and younger than all of them, and they even gave me the nicest advices ever, and told me not to worry about repeating coords or getting brand, since it's "all about fun and community".
Dude I felt SO relieved and so deceived from everything I had grown up watching and talking on the internet, by exchanging social media with them I discovered the online Mexican lolita community, and yeah they're just as sweet there, very different imo from the English one, so I'm like- was it just the American lolitas that just had a very different take on everything?? maybe it's just the internet, although so far I haven't found nearly as much toxicity on the mexican online community, or is it just- girl idk, this is my question I guess, what do y'all think it is?? what's y'all's experience in the community from your country so far?
