before you go around saying it's unfair mazepin lost his seat "for being russian" go read up on what actually happend. he didn't get fired for "being russian" and he didn't get fired bc he, personally, got sanctioned for a war he has nothing to do with. he got fired bc he can't pay haas for his seat anymore without uralkali, and paying for it was the only reason he had the seat in the first place. this isn't "unfair" this is the game you play as a pay driver.
This man who refused to kneel, has never emulated the 'we race as one slogan'. Never called out the president of his country for being a depraved dictator. Punched his colleague, almost ran over his colleague in F2, grabbed a drunk girls boob, probably paid off that girl to defend him (she said some worrying things on her insta story afterwards). Insinuated George Russell was gay, which what in God's name was he playing at. Said "This is a real world" when people told him his fans were being racist. Apparently threw a party where 9 factory workers died. Allegedly asked a fan for nudes in exchange for a paddock pass. And now he wants to use 'we compete as one' like a lunatic.
We race as one was about being a community of people using their voices to talk about the many issues that struck society and to provide assurances that the colour of your skin, your sexuality, your gender doesn't matter and that you're all welcome. The FIA sullied 'We race as one' when they allowed Nikita Mazepin to compete, they threw that all out of the window. That's why him using 'we compete as one' is so disingenuous, because he's claimed this thing that was made to represent equality within Formula 1 and changed it to something that represents his desire to come back and once again destroy this community that the driver's have built.
This isn't about him bring Russian, this is about him not condemning a war, this is about him being a bully, a sexual harasser, a homophobe, a racist. The thing is, if he wasn't any of these things and actually spoke out about his president being a crazy dictator, we probably all would have supported him and felt bad for him. But he's all these things and more.
'We compete as one' sounds so hollow when it comes from him.
The Mazepin press conference sounds like it was a complete and utter mess.
It’s pure and simple Russian propaganda. He was asked three times how he expected to be considered neutral given his father’s connections and refused to answer.
He refused to sign the FIA neutrality waiver because “his contract was terminated 4 days before the deadline so he didn’t see the point” but then said he found out he was dropped in the press - which was the day after the FIA deadline?
The whole thing is shady as hell. Trying to paint himself as a victim, trying to rebrand himself as a philanthropist. He’s a spoiled brat, and his comments about the war were predictably questionable.
Good riddance, honestly...
