I'm thinking of buying a doll that is supposed to represent the cheyenne tribe. I'm worried that it's cultural appropriation? She comes in the traditional dress of her tribe, but she's not made by a native person. If I do end up getting her I probably will give her modern clothes and a time-traveling type vibe... but idk man i don't want to accidentally support erasure and appropriation. thx :)
Do not buy a doll in Cheyenne dress from a doll maker who is not Native.
I’m curious why they need to be in Cheyenne dress if you’re going to re-dress them anyway? I realise I’m getting to this probably *way* late, since I haven’t logged in since forever; a good rule of thumb is that if you feel the need to ask “Is this... [cultural appropriation/racist, etc]”, then there’s a very good chance that it is.
