Heyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy Beautiffffuuuuuullllllllllllllllllllll
I've now watched 112 episodes, over 36 hours. And I still want to watch 26 more episodes and most of Season 7 so that makes 156 more episodes. I will write a more rigorous analysis on the show but I'll start with this, watching a show in this semi-random really shows how the show changes. If you watch the show normally then the only real indicator of the show changing, not growing, is what Lily's hair looks like. If you're a veteran like me then you know that the show moves a gear in Season 6 when they start getting more emotional and setting up the direction of the rest of the series and then again in Season 7 when it becomes a love triangle and the idea that Robin was the only woman that could have been "the one" for Ted exists. But now, holy shit. Season 8 is the only season I could argue is bad. I did a little bit of research and it turns out this could have been the final season if Jason Segel didn't come back for a ninth. I know people have an issue with Season 9 but I really like it. It has the most obvious bad episodes but it's really high concept. So that leaves Season 8 being jammed between the finale and the gut punch that was Season 7. Barney and Robin, that's the end game so Season 8 is just getting there. The first third is breaking everyone up, including Nick who is just the worst character. Set-up from Season 6, was supposed to come back for Season 7 but the actor had another show so they created Kevin, who is Robin's best boyfriend after Barney, I will not argue this, and then he just appears in Season 8 and when they want to write him out they make him an idiot. Season 8 has a really strong middle section from episodes 9-13 and ending with the last three, but apart from that: I like the episode where they fight over being a Godparent, selling Barney's apartment is a fun idea but we know that it's not going to be sold, the final Sparkles episode is good and better than the final Slap episode but it's still the weakest, bringing back the captain and letting Lily be fulfilled career-wise and an homage to the 'Pineapple Incident' (there is a reason they were going to make The Captain the owner of the Pineapple), and 'Time Traveler' is one of the best in the series. 13/24 and if it's just the great ones it becomes 10/24. The show needed to end or do something new, they could only break everyone up and then give Ted a crazy girlfriend who is nowhere near the level of enjoyable bad partner as Simon, Shannon, Scooter, or Shannon. Bad Season. I didn't think I'd have that much to say about Season 8, I will have less to say about the rest or at least the next. Season 1 is the second weakest season which is always a good sign. Actually, I'm so tired, I'm going to summarise. Season 1, good but awkward. Season 5, disappointing, I don't care for Don nor how they handle Barney and Robin only for him to immediately return to his old ways, and not a lot for the other 3 characters though I do like the dynamics happening between them at the start. Season 9, I love it. Season 2, a really fun season to look back on. The only relationship that lasts an entire season, Lily and Marshall don't count, Lily and Marshall in a new environment, Barney starts becoming more realised, a great follow-up to the first season whilst also feeling unlike anything after it. I'm too tired. I like Season 4 less than 3 because it's a lot of set-up without payoff, and seeing how Season 5 went, it didn't really pay-off, but I love Barney in this season, I like Ted and Robin being friends, a lot of stuff to love. Season 3, I can see how this is someone's favourite, I wouldn't be surprised if this is the average choice. Perfect. But I love 6 and then 7 the most. Zooey and Melodrama all the way.
