let’s talk for a second guys listen to me here. imagine theres this guy who’s your very good friend and finally you find him again thank god but he doesn’t know you. and you knew he wouldn’t. but you still try to help him and he’s so kind to you. to a stranger. he lets you stay in his home because “i’m sure my innie wouldn’t want you sleeping in a greenhouse” he’s not scared or confused and he believes you so easily. he doesn’t know you and he doesn’t love you but he cries after you die and thinks of his wife. and now also imagine there’s this woman. and you don’t know her and she doesn’t know you. she’s strange and kind of offputting but she’s still one of you in a way so you care because you’re a good person. she asks you to sculpt how you feel and you make a tree. the other night you were crying in front of the tree that killed her and you think you don’t know. you think you don’t feel it. but maybe you do. and now imagine there’s this guy banging down your door and screaming your name. by the time you get to open it he’s leaving. you follow him and you don’t know why. you’re watching him. a few days ago you were holding hands over a painting. and now you don’t know him. but maybe you do because maybe there’s something stronger than severance and maybe that’s love

and obviously you find yourself thinking oh i do wish i could get severed to do this one thing. would you actually maybe not. but you do wish you didn't have to undergo medical procedures you do wish you didn't have to do the things that give you anxiety you do wish you didn't have to do tedious tasks that barely even require you to be present for them. it's tempting. that's why the premise works. but the premise is also that somebody has to do it. somebody has to go to the dentist and somebody has to get on that plane and somebody has to write those thank you notes. just like somebody has to clean the house and somebody has to harvest the food you eat and somebody has to make the clothes you wear. you can't eliminate inconvenience you can only delegate it. you can't eliminate suffering you can only delegate it. and always the easiest way to live with this is to see that somebody as less than. less than you less than people. and if that somebody has to wear your body to do it well maybe it's not all that different. they're not a person. you are. it's capitalism all the way down baby

Not enough people are talking about how masterfully Gaten Matarazzo is like, mimicking Joseph Quinn in his acting choices. He's slumping into chairs, he's swaggering into scenes, he's wearing a bunch of chunky rings and acting cool calm and collected all covering up a kid whose seen too much and is barely hanging on. I saw someone say that this version of Dustin is so heartbreaking because he was the last of the kids to really have that childhood innocence still. Seeing our always positive, always determined, always consistent Dustin in such a concerning place is really sad, and Gaten is killing it.
