after seeing the pr teaser for "my karina" i am just even more disturbed. the way the ai figurine is stylised to be thinner but curvier, with longer legs and a smaller face than the irl karina, is messed up. not only is she heavily sexualised—which is problematic on its own, this is supposed to be a "best friend"? like, shut up, no girl imagines her best friend to be wearing skintight clothes and look like an unrealistic f*ckdoll like that—but also it makes me heavily concerned for the irl karina. imagine seeing this "better" and "more perfect" version of yourself and knowing you can never look like her because she isn't real, but at the same time she's supposed to be me why am i not as good as her?

the kpop industry is already full of toxic pressure and unrealistic standards but this avatar bs is only making it worse by blurring the lines between the perfect persona that fulfils the expectation and the actual, real person that needs to be allowed to have flaws. i can't imagine how much pressure these young girls must feel, even more so when the ones they are competing against are literally more perfect versions of themselves?? how are they supposed to find their own identity and grow comfortable with it if they constantly have one projected onto them

every single day kpop companies find new ways to encourage fans to become overly emotionally invested in idols if not downright delusional about their relationship with them and then they exploit this inability to set and maintain boundaries for monetary gain at the cost of both the fans and the idols themselves it honestly makes me sick

I’m not gonna get into it w the brain damaged kpoppies of tumblr but I want y’all to know excusing the aespa concept literally makes you just as bad as the creepy old men who are gonna purchase this app and rent those spaces in the virtual hotel with any and all sm artists. y’all are sick in the head to brush this off as dramatic or completely gloss over the actual facts of this terrifying concept and say you are personally unconcerned because of sm’s track history with promotions. its literally not what the fuck it’s about please please please find the line between fantasy and reality and realise those are real life barely-adult girls under a concept best summarised as ‘own your idols and do what you want with them’
