I know Warren Buffett has read those works but he'll never admit, not publicly at least, that the authors were correct in their analysis. 🤦🏿♂️ https://www.instagram.com/p/BxXR_ppnGik/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1x2b59e9xufqc

This was one of my favorite collections growing up. On a rainy day like today, I would take a couple volumes and read them. There were so many interesting subjects in there that I could no longer wait for a rainy day to read them. Science was by far my favorite subject to study. But we always had so many books of so many different subjects that you didn't even have to leave the crib to begin exploring the world. I go visit my parents a few days ago and my niece was reading one of the young people's science encyclopedia volume #6 di-en and she was super hyped to show me some of what she learned. Of course the dinosaurs were her favorites. What saddens me is visiting people who are raising children, black African children and have no books in the house! By now, we should all know that sitting kids in front of TV's and iPads is not healthy for the mind and the eyes. Many parents just do that to keep their kids quiet while they do whatever it is adults do. Smh. We talk so much shit about our youth not interested in reading. I've observed many young children. When they start learning to read, they want to read just about anything they get their hands on. Often, from my experience, that desire is lost when there isn't anything interesting for that child to read at home. I have a pretty extensive library of my own now. I give books away often. If you invite me to your baby shower, I'll be bringing books. You prolly won't like that but don't worry, they're not for you.
Not sure what this mural represents since no one was around for me to ask. I have an idea. Nevertheless, I though it was dope! (at Old Goucher)

#tbt circa 1989. My great aunt had a school in Ghana and needed some books. That's my mom posing before we started packing books to ship to Ghana. I remember enthusiastically helping pack those books until we got to the world book encyclopedia set. I started crying because the world book encyclopedia was my favorite thing to read and didn't want to part with it. My mom promised to get a brand new set. Of course, when she said that, the tears dried up in record time and we went on packing. Ha!
You know, I was reading an article about the recent violence in Chicago. Terrible stuff. Difficult to read. As with most news websites, there were other articles on the sidebar. One of them was this article here. When you’re sick, you may get a fever. That fever is one way your body attempts to communicate to you that it’s not well. Now, you can simply take ibuprofen or something similar to reduce the fever. But you haven’t addressed the cause of that fever. A pain in your side? You could take some percs to numb the pain. It could be a simple muscle strain. It could be appendicitis. My point is you will continue to just treat the symptoms but without a diagnosis. It’s evidence of America and its media’s motives. The shooting articles present fear, shock and awe. When it comes to us, put the shootings on the front page to scare the population and make them more susceptible to whatever “solution” they’re going bring in. The shootings, the physical and psychological violence is an end result of what this system does to us. I watched a video on youtube the other day titled “What if NASA had the US Military’s Budget?” It’s something I’ve thought about for a while. What if students and educators had the bottomless budgets that police departments and prison systems and the military had. If anybody asks you “well what about Chicago and the violence?” show them this article: "The Chicago Public Schools sued Illinois on Tuesday claiming the state's method of education funding discriminates against its largely black and Hispanic student body. The lawsuit, filed in Cook County Circuit Court, uses the state's Civil Rights Act to seek to invalidate Illinois' school funding system. The district wants to avoid the fate of previous school funding lawsuits that faltered in Illinois, which like CPS is reeling from deep financial problems. Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, who controls CPS, said the state funding formula is "in violation of the civil rights of our children.” “It penalizes poor kids in poor school districts and rewards wealthy kids in wealthy school districts - just the opposite of what we should do,” Emanuel told reporters." (at East New York, Brooklyn)
I think it is easier, smarter, more practical, and a better use of our resources to raise strong youth than to try and repair and educate these adults. If the adults want to get it, that's all good but I'm saying the adults should no longer be the focus. I'm just saying, is it not easier and more practical to make sure a tree grows properly than to try to fix after it's been growing crooked for years? An ounce of prevention being worth a pound of cure? So why do adults keep taking shit about the youth? I keep seeing these articles about Chicago violence and the youth. Why talk shit about them? Were they not raised by adults, in a society run and organized by adults? How can it be their fault if the system is failing them. You should look to who raised them. Then look to raised the ones who raised them. Keep going. You may find out that it's a cycle. You might find out that this society, this system doesn't want that cycle to break. Forget "getting ahead," you won't even "catch up" if you keep wasting our limited energy and resources. Neglect the youth, and they'll grow up to be another generation of adults that you'll have to "repair" again. You keep telling them to go to college and get a degree and a good job while they see that for bullshit that it is, that's why they don't respect you. Our youth are dropping out of school, ending up in gangs and on drugs because you're making them insane, telling them to participate in system that has presented no future for them. On top of that, we have teachers and councelors that look at this as "just a job" and they don't care about these youth. They talk more shit about them. The youth know that why they don't respect you. I love the "bad ass kids" the most! These cats be smart as hell and don't even know it because no one ever holds conversations with them long enough to know that they are and make them aware of it. Smh. Just know that the NGOs are targeting our youth all over the world to raise them up to protect the interests of this wicked system. It is imperative that we reach our youth first!! It should be our TOP priority. (at Far Rockaway High School)
