“Thank you.” He felt a sudden urge to kiss the top of her forehead as he held her, but stopped himself. Now was not the time to show her mixed signals. He would do as he himself requested; he would wait. Then he would see what was to be done. “Of course we can Rose, I’m looking forward to it, and we’re already halfway through.” Nils smiled and stepped back from the hug to look at her.

“I’m glad, i was looking forward to continuing watching, we still have to get threw 2 and a half season, plus a bunch of other shows as well.” Rose says smiling a tiny bit again, happy that this was off her chest and that she wasn’t completely turned down. It was then that she noticed her music was still playing and it was another ABBA song, she tried not to laugh because the song was “Take a chance on me” it kinda fit the moment perfectly.

“I’m not making a mistake Nils trust me” Rose says enjoying his embrace, the circles he was making on her body calmed her even more. “No, im not being with someone my own age again. I was humiliated and toyed with, my brother almost killed the kid who did that to me so no i wont be with someone my own age. Because i can’t trust someone my own age” Rose says revealing a tiny bit of something in her past she hates bringing up. 

“I-” Again Nils was rendered speechless. It was the way Rose had said ‘toyed with’ that struck him. In a flash of anger on her behalf he could understand what her brother felt, and he had no doubt that carried over to Rose. “I understand Rose, believe me I do. But try to understand me. I don’t want you to choose me just because you’re angry or afraid. So I’m not saying no, just, please wait for me. Give me some time, give yourself some time so we can get to know each other before we rush into anything.”

"Thats not the reason why i chose you, but i understand. I will wait, besides we have to watch more Hannibal.....we are still doing that right?" Rose asked hoping they were she really wanted to continue their binge nights. Sure rose was a bit upset but she was glad this wasn't a no and that there was still a chance.

“I know Rose, I know what you said. I just want to make sure you’re not making a mistake.” He sighed heavily as he held her, his hand moving in gentle rhythmic circles. “I’m too old to casually flit about with a relationship, and you’re far too young to settle into something just yet. You should take your time, be with someone your own age.”

“Why worry? Because Rose, because…” He sighed and pulled her closer. So that when they stood Nils could wrap his arms around her to hug her. “Because even if you don’t want to see me as old, but I’m a decade older than you. I can’t help but know how young you are when I’m old enough to be your father. I-” He was worried to, that he was too old for this sort of thing, that after his wife if he loved then lost someone again that he wouldn’t be able to stand it.

Rose stood close to him, she needed to be close he made her feel safe and calm even though his feelings towards her are unclear at the moment. “Age is just a number Nils, i told you this the last time we talked about our ages. its not that big of a deal Nils, its not” Rose says hoping to convince him of that.

  “I am not just saying this to make you feel better. Rose!” Nils stood, his voice clear and precise as he continued to hold onto her. “Our bond works both ways so if you doubt me at least try, try and reflect on how I feel to understand me. It may be more complicated. But isn’t it surprised? Flustered? Take a moment to trust me dear before you go off the rails to sulk.” As calm as he looked on the outside; inside he was a rumbling swirl of feelings of surprise, flattery, worry that he’d been inappropriate, excitement, and even feelings he hadn’t yet fully grasped–like excitement and hope.

Rose listened to what he had to say and tried to focus in on his feelings like the ones he was describing to her. She could feel them, maybe she was to quick to judge she just didnt want to be hurt again. Rose could feel his feelings come threw slowly at first like the feeling of surprise and flustered but there was also a bit of worry in there that made her hesitate. “Why worry?” She asked not sure if she was going to get an answer or not.

“No, wait.” Nils reached out to grab hold of Rose’s arm before she left the room altogether. He didn’t even have to wait before he saw her face, he could feel the sharp pang of sadness in her gut as if it was in his own. “Wait, please Rose. You don’t have to be sorry. I- Well, I’m flattered. I’m just surprised.”

“I know you’re just saying that to make me feel better. You don’t have to Nils, i get it. Its fine, just let me sulk for a bit and i’ll be fine” Rose said quietly as she looked back at him, she just wanted to sulk she knew this would happen and she didn’t want to have to deal with it anymore.

“Yea i guess you do but thats okay i forgive you” rose said with a smirk as she looked at him. Butterflies began to flutter in her tummy as she got closer to telling him the truth about her feeling. She was so afraid he would reject her, but she knew she had to if Jo could tell Vlad she could tell nils. “Okay well um, im sure you noticed that my emotions lately. Well um they are towards a certain someone……and its you” Rose revealed quietly as she looked at her hands im her lap to afraid to look at him.

“Your emotions lately, towards me?” Nils brows furrowed, not quite understanding Rose at first. He took a moment to review all the times he felt the flutter and flurry of nerves through their bond. What this spelled out in the terms of Rose’s affections and the source of those affections–him. “Well, why-” Nil’s mouth hung open, rendered speechless.

Rose knew she shouldn't have said anything this was him rejecting her but he was trying to be nice. She tried to hold in her tears as she hid her sadness of the rejection, sure he didn't say anything but she knew. "Im sorry i said anything i don't know why i did. Thanks for lunch" She said as she got up from the stool ready to leave the room and hide in hers.

“I would think it was calming since it wouldn’t be very noisy” rose responded with a small smile as she continued to dunk her sandwich in the bowl of soup. “Yes i’d like that very much, then i can show you all the amazing shows. I guess we could go to sleep at a reasonable hour though most people who binge stay up all night and finished the who series in a couple of days” she said honestly knowing she was going to have to tell him about her feelings. “Nils? Can i tell you something honestly?”

“It actually is. It’s quite and peaceful when working with the deceased. I was just afraid if I said it was calming it might make me appear callous. I keep forgetting unlike other people you’re more forgiving of my morbidity.” Nils turned to face Rose completely, sensing the change in her demeanor almost immediately. “Of course my dear Rose, please do, at any time you should feel free to share with me whatever you like.”

“I’m sure work isn’t that bad, and besides once you get in im sure we can make some time to watch more of Hannibal or another show if you want” Rose said with a smile as she tried to make him feel a bit better. 

“Not bad, as such, certainly no one is happy to have to deal with a mortician, but my daily work is at least calm if not calming.” Nils took to eat the bisque, spooning it carefully into his mouth as so not toe slurp. “Should we make this a nightly event? Watching some sort of show or movie together? We’ll just have to be careful to go to bed at a reasonable hour. This morning I fell asleep while at the coffee shop.”

“Sounds like a lovely afternoon. I’m filled with unbridled jealousy that I can’t be here to share it with you.” Nils smiled over at her before sinking his teeth into one slice of his sandwich with a crunch. 

“I’m sure work isn’t that bad, and besides once you get in im sure we can make some time to watch more of Hannibal or another show if you want” Rose said with a smile as she tried to make him feel a bit better.

Rose smiled and blushed when he pushed her seat in, she hoped she would get up the courage to tell him how she felt. “I definitely will, it smells amazing” Rose replied with a smile as she picks up one of her slices and dips it in the soup, taking a bite her taste buds explode with flavor. “Nils, this is so good” 

“I thought it might be, but one can never tell what may appeal to certain pallets.” Nils said with a smile, choosing confidence over faux humility. He cut his own sandwich neatly into triangles before eating it. “So, Rosalie, if I might ask, what are your planes for the rest of the day?”

"That is very true" Rose replies with a smile back as she continues to eat besides him. She felt her heart flutter once more when he said her name, she loved hearing him say it. "Ill probably frost the cupcakes and maybe dance and sing some more as i do."

“Then it’s decided.” Nils smiled back and nodded before he pushed her seat in so they could continue their lunch. For the briefest second he wondered if it was really Markus Rose was becoming so flustered over, or something else. He dismissed the thought with the shake of his head. “You will have to tell me what you think of the meal.”

Rose smiled and blushed when he pushed her seat in, she hoped she would get up the courage to tell him how she felt. “I definitely will, it smells amazing” Rose replied with a smile as she picks up one of her slices and dips it in the soup, taking a bite her taste buds explode with flavor. “Nils, this is so good”

“I’m glad you like it” Rose said with a smile as she joins him at the kitchen bar. “I’m comfortable no matter what, i know he wont try anything and if he does i’ll stab him or punch him whichever comes to mind first” She says with a shrug and a smirk. 

“Well, I’m glad you can take care of yourself. All the same I think I’d like to be in the house the first couple of times. I’ll confine myself to the study to give you some privacy but it would ease my mind.” Nils locked eyes with Rose, pulling out one of the kitchen stools for her to sit.

"Id like that too actually" rose replies quietly as she looked into his eyes, her heart began to flutter once again as she did so. Rose smiled and blushed as she sat down on the stool that he pulled out for her.

“It’s delicious.” Nils said in answer. With a practiced flair he was platting their lunch on square plates and clean white bowels that he set down on the eat in kitchen bar. “It doesn’t matter to me a lick  what Markus thinks either way. What’s important to me is what makes you comfortable.” 

“I’m glad you like it” Rose said with a smile as she joins him at the kitchen bar. “I’m comfortable no matter what, i know he wont try anything and if he does i’ll stab him or punch him whichever comes to mind first” She says with a shrug and a smirk.

“It’s inspired, what is that hint of? Something you used. I can just make it out.” He posed the question right before returning to his pan of buttered bread and the special mix of cheese, vegetables and herbs, turning them before they burnt. “Ah, well if it is here that would certainly be convenient. Just let me know the days and I’ll be sure to be out of your hair.” He set the pan down, letting the other side of the bread brown and crisp nicely as he stirred the bisque when a thought occurred to him. “Unless you would like me to stay and chaperone. Make sure he doesn’t get too fresh or take advantage?”

“Its lemon” Rose said with a small smile as she went back over to the bowl of icing and began to fill the piping bag with it. The food Nils smelt delicious and Rose couldn’t wait to have some, it made her so hungry she couldn’t wait to eat. “I don’t mind either way and im sure Markus wouldn’t either.”
