Hey, I'm the anon who wrote the ask about Mickey. The tone was definitely uncalled, but here's the kicker: I'm not even a Trevor stan. I actually love the character of Mickey and Gallavich was originally my reason for even checking out the show. I would love for Noel to come back & Gallavich to be endgame. I just get so tired of the fandom's righteous crusade for #justice4mickey. I should probably just stay out of the tag and live my life. -a fellow Mickey fan who probably needs to shut up.

You definitely don’t need to shut up (and you definitely shouldn’t if you don’t want to). I’m not gonna harp on my ‘I’m a university instructor’ thing too much but asking questions, being critical, engaging in discourse…all of these things are important if you have any interest in thinking about how a character in a show, film, book fits in to the scheme of things. And, if you’re anything like me, it’s just more enjoyable anyway. I have posted before how I actually like Trevor as a character, I like him for Ian…but none of that means I don’t like Mickey or think Mickey is bad for Ian or anything like that. For me, the reality is that it doesn’t seem like Gallavich is gonna happen. I gave up on it a long time ago. That said, I think Mickey is a great, interesting, complicated character and I think Noel Fisher’s performance is incredible and I really like that so many of us agree with these things and are invested in a well-written, morally ambiguous character. I’m with you about the self righteousness–I don’t find it interesting or merited. Thanks for the ask!

@ every single defense and woobification of Mickey that you guys throw out there while vilifying Trevor: bit*ly /2E04aVD Cool motive. Still murder. Sometimes literally murder, sometimes just manipulation, abusive behavior. And before you make this strawman argument: yeah, I know many other characters exhibit these traits too, but none has received the treatment Trevor has for just not being good enough for Ian whilst simultaneously anointing Mickey for sainthood.

I think anon has a very valid point and I think it’s beyond a doubt that Mickey at the very least attempted to torture and murder someone. I don’t know that this snark is especially called for but I’m not gonna tone police. All I wanna say is that I get so tired of this fandom treating any critique against Mickey as a personal affront. He is flawed, he is violent toward Ian, he is a criminal and often takes glee in criminal, violent activity. He is also a survivor of abuse and assault. He can be all of this at once. Acknowledging these things shouldn’t be controversial or met with ire–they are testament to how complicated Mickey truly is. Anon has a good, valid point and if they (or anyone else) wants talk about it more, they can hit up my ask.
