Say Her Name, India Kager: Navy Veteran Killed By Officers In Virginia While 4-Month-Old Son Was In The Backseat
A son is without his mother due to the actions of 4 Virginia Beach officers, who are currently on leave after they fired 30 rounds into a parked vehicle. Her name is India Kager, a 28 year-old Navy veteran.
Officers were actually investigating the actions of Kager’s significant other, 35-year-old Angelo Perry. Perry was a person of interest in a homicide case, and it was believed that he was about to commit another crime.
“He was a person of interest in a homicide case. And we did know that he was armed — we knew that he was heavily armed. We did have credible information that he was going to commit a violent act in our city,” explained Chief Jim Cervera during the press conference.
Officers approached the car knowing that Perry was not alone, but they were unaware that the couple’s 4 month old was in the car. Not much has been said about what led up to officers shooting at the vehicle resulting in the deaths of Kager and Perry.
“It was very clear to me that India was not part of the police investigation based on the responses I got from police. She had nothing to do with it. She was totally innocent,” Kager’s mother, Gina Best explained to the Washington Post.
Kager not only leaves behind her baby, she also had a 4-year-old son from a previous marriage.
“I’m devastated because she should still be alive nursing her son, my grandson. We’re talking about a very beautiful soul that should still be here. She was unarmed, she was completely innocent. They shot indiscriminately. My greatest fear is it will be doctored … to make India seem like she’s part of dark behavior. India was not of that element,” said Best.
My deepest condolences to the Kager/Perry Family and her sons. This story is very heartbreaking especially considering the fact that it had happened right before the Veteran’s Day. What’s going on with our police and the whole country?
