Looking up at him, she smiled again, “I wasn’t sure if I was going to make it out of there. I had to do … I had to hurt people. People I knew, people I had been friends with.”
"I know," He rubbed her back, "I'm sorry. I wanted to help you. Fuck Hydra for growing right under our noses. Even I missed it."
Ares hugged her back, “I’m just glad you’re okay Gabs. Sorry I haven’t been around much lately. Been busy upstairs and when all this shit with Hydra went down Dad grounded me.”
She let herself rest on him, sighing, “I didn’t know you listened to people. I thought you did what you wanted …”
Her hands rubbed his back slowly, it was nice to have someone to reply on, even for a little while.
"I do as a please for the most part. But once in a while I get attached. Find mortals I like that I'd rather see alive than dead," He told her.
"We’ll leave when you’re ready. Pack whatever you can’t bear to leave behind. Eat, rest up. I’m going to call Lil."
He walked off and came back a few moments later, “Lil’s going to set up the safehouse now. Hydra won’t be able to track her, I’ll be sure of that. When we leave I’ll make the place look trashed again.”
She took a bowl, filling it up with food for Sy to eat on the couch. She took a long drink of water while he was gone, beginning to stuff her face with food. She was starving.
When he returned, Ham stood up, reaching out for him. She wrapped both arms around his torso, hugging him close, “Thank you. Thank you so much.”

Ham smiled, nodding, “Thank you. Thank you so much Ares.”
She moved to the couch, sitting down, pulling Sy up onto it. The first thing she did was take some food n her hand, and feeding him first, not herself, “There you go, I bet you’re so hungry. you poor guy. I’ll never leave you like this again Sy, I promise.”
She stroked his fur, sighing, “When we do leave. Can you make the place look ransacked again? Maybe if they come by then they’ll think someone already got to me.”
"We'll leave when you're ready. Pack whatever you can't bear to leave behind. Eat, rest up. I'm going to call Lil."
He walked off and came back a few moments later, "Lil's going to set up the safehouse now. Hydra won't be able to track her, I'll be sure of that. When we leave I'll make the place look trashed again."
She didn’t move, stayed wrapped up in her dog, “I don’t want to leave him. If I can’t go with him …”
she clung to him, her only family. He was always there for her, always took care of her, loved her. She wouldn’t leave him alone again if she could help it.
"I’m so sorry Sy."
She looked up at Ares, desperate and miserable.
Ares nodded, "Okay. Okay we'll take Sy with us. I'll have Lil set up one of the safehouses and as soon as you rest up we'll get going."

Ares pulled Ham into his arms, “We won’t. I swear we won’t.” He assured her. “We’ll go get him right now sweetie. Hold on. We’re gonna teleport.”
He gave her a moment before whisking them away right to her apartment.
Ham took a breath, before she felt the ground leave her feet, and then replaced with new floors. Shifting a bit, she looked around, whimpering, “Sy? Boy? Here boy!”
The place was a mess, like a dog had gone insane here. She watched the husky poke his head out of the kitchen, before barreling to her. Kneeling down, Ham whimpered, hugging him close, “I’m so sorry boy, I’m so sorry.”
Ares waved his hand and cleaned the place up before snapping his fingers and Ham's favorite foods appeared on the table, as well as a drinks.
"We shouldn't stay long. Once Hydra figures out you're not in the base anymore. This'll be the first place they come looking for you. I can take Sy to the Hall of War, Horace'll look after him. I can't take you. Unfortunately, mortals aren't allowed there. But Lil an I do have safehouses you can stay at."
Ares closed the distance between them, putting his hand on hers, lowering the gun gently. “I know you aren’t,” He spoke softly. “And neither am I. HYDRA’s been using War for their own purposes without my realizing. I want to stop them as much as you do.”
He wanted to help her. He wanted her to show her it was really him, and that he wanted nothing to do with Hydra. He had to get her out of there before Hydra found them. “Please Ham, you’ve gotta believe me. We’ll find Sy, keep him safe too. Just trust me. We’ll come back, we’ll do what we can to wipe out Hydra.”
She paused, looking up at him. Sy. It had been days. Her pup.
"Sy …" in an instant all the anger drained from her, and her eyes began to water, "he must be so confused and hungry and scared. Please …"
She reached out for him, “I can’t jsut leave him.”
Ares pulled Ham into his arms, "We won't. I swear we won't." He assured her. "We'll go get him right now sweetie. Hold on. We're gonna teleport."

Her hand was shaking, she wanted to believe it. Some magical being, just showing up and taking her away. Making everything okay. But she’d be leaving SHIELD, her colleagues. People that might need her …

He roamed the halls, invisible, until he found her, and let his presence be known.
"Easy Ham. It’s okay, it’s me. I would have been here sooner but…Dad was being a dick."
She didn’t put the gun down. Ares couldn’t be here, if he was real, he’d have seen this coming, he’d have done something.
Ham shook her head, “i don’t have time to be going crazy. I need water … I need sleep. i need … to stop talking to myself …”
"Ham," He stepped closer slowly, cautiously, "Gabs...put the gun down. I'm real. I swear. No lie. I can get you out of here, get you someplace safe where you can rest."
The god felt pangs of guilt. He hadn't been seen her in weeks, and now because of her condition she didn't think he was real. He should have been able to do something, get her out sooner. He mentally cursed Zeus for being a pain in the ass and forcing him on the sidelines while this whole situation got out of control. How was he supposed to protect them when he couldn't reach them?
Ham had been distreetly wandering SHIELD’s hallways since managing to unlock the sub levels long enough to get out. Yes she relocked them. Everyone she could see inside was dead, and she needed food.
She was delirious. She knew that too much was going on, no one could be trusted, but she needed water, food, she needed to clear her head … and find a way out.
She heard footsteps.

Aos Drabble Challenge
He'd only been gone what, two months, three tops? He figured SHIELD could handle themselves while he sorted some things out on Olympus. They'd gotten on find without him for 70 years, what difference did a few weeks make. Apparently he'd underestimated SHIELD's ability to get itself into trouble.
Hydra. That annoying Schmidt's army of blind followers. Sure, they added power to the House of War, but to Ares, especially in recent years, War was more for population control, not controlling the population. No, he wasn't going to let Hydra use War and Discord anymore, not like this.
He brought up his hand to snap his fingers and bring himself to SHIELD's New York headquarters but a hand stopped him, "No, Ares. This is a fight for the mortals. I forbid you to interfere."
Ares turned to see his father standing there, "Zeus! I have to go. Ham an Penny are down there. I haven't seen them in months, I have to get them out of there."
"No, you don't Ares. The mortals stopped relying on us years ago. They can surely survive a few more days without you," Zeus replied.
"You're a sick son of a bitch you know that Dad," Ares growled.
"The Fates demand the humans resolve this on their own," Zeus waved his hand and magic rippled through the Hall. "You cannot leave the Hall until this is over," The king of the gods turned to leave.
"If they die. Their blood is on your hands," Ares said as his father left. When Zeus was gone the God of War walked over to a mirror on the wall and waved his hand in front of it. The mirror showed two real time images, of Pen and one of Ham. "Get 'em girls. Show those Hydra punks what a real warrior is."
Mun: -logs in- -sees drafts- hm, lets take a look

Ares: No doin it. -walks off-
Mun: Ares get your ass back here and work on drafts right now!

Ares appeared in Pen's living room, "Penny?"
Penelope turned, holding a few frames. The lock down had set Ellis back work wise, so yet again their move date was pushed back. She was just packing up a few more things.
"Ares?"
"Well for 500 dollars it better have been a noble man."
