Autistic meltdowns are not a behavior.
Autistic meltdowns are a feeling that causes a behavior.
Temper tantrums are a behavior.
Temper tantrums are a behavior that is caused by a feeling.
They can look very much alike.
I bet a lot of people see this and think I look like a 2 year old screeching because mommy won’t buy me the cool toy I saw in a store.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xd3C4wrUfHk (Video recorded and uploaded by me.)
I am almost 37 years old. I’m not having a temper tantrum, I’m autistic and having a meltdown due to sensory overload.
I fell apart because a neighbor’s vacuum made a noise that hurt my ears even with my windows shut. You can tell the sensory overload is already intense by my distress stimming (pacing, hip-slapping that left bruises!) because I had a door right next to me and didn’t think to leave through it. The door was shut, my brain treated it like a wall.
I felt trapped. The feelings of fear and rage built up until the explosion where I start screaming, jumping and flailing. I lost all control of my emotions and my reaction to them.
It’s a quick meltdown; I call it explosive because it’s immediate and sometimes violent. You see the aftermath of the adrenaline surge when I show my hands shaking at the end.
Now, repeat after me…
Autistic meltdowns are not a behavior.
Autistic meltdowns are a feeling that causes a behavior.
Temper tantrums are a behavior.
Temper tantrums are a behavior that is caused by a feeling.
They can look very much alike. They are not the same thing. Sometimes the only way to distinguish the two is knowing if someone is autistic, their demeanor when angry vs in a meltdown, and the situation they’re in.
I throw temper tantrums too, though it’s rare. You can tell when I’m acting in anger vs a meltdown because I can still respond verbally to what you say. In a meltdown, I may stick to a word or phrase and say only that to you no matter how I want to respond.
Calling a meltdown a “tantrum” is dismissing, invalidating and insulting.

Minimum wage: $7.25
$7.25 x 40 hour full time work week: $290
$290 x 4 weeks per month: $1,160
In every Southern state (didn’t have time to look at the rest of the country) you can find some sort of studio apartment for around $500 per month, sometimes less than that. Why bother lying about something so easily disproven?
Because Bernie Sanders supporters aren’t going to fact check him, and they’ll ignore any contrary evidence that’s presented to them anyways.
Things like this really tick me off and It’s not political or anything but it’s the fact that you think all that money is there. Here’s what I mean;
That weekly check comes to, according to you, 290. Most places DO NOT pay for your half hour lunch that is required by law. So your beginning number was wrong. $7.25 x 7.5 hours a day x 5 days a week only gets you $271.88. Most people in America get paid bi-weekly, so let’s double it to get the budget. $543.75. That’s GROSS, not NET. Out of that comes anywhere between 10% and 15% taxes depending on state so we’ll low ball it at 10%. Automatically down to $489.38 a pay check. Now health insurance. Usually anywhere from 70-100 a pay check for the cheapest plans. Again, we’ll low ball and go $70. So now we have $419.39 a paycheck. x 2 = $839.
Eight hundred thirty nine dollars. A MONTH.
But again, you seem to think that’s fair. So let’s proceed. You say rent is $500? Okay. This person now has $339 left to buy groceries for the whole month, pay utilities, car payment, car insurance, and gas money to get to work.
Those are the bare needs. You have to eat. You have to pay for heat, water, garbage removal, gas and or electricity because apartments do not always include things and rarely all of the above. Most cities in America do not have public transportation. Mine doesn’t despite the fact that our population is over 15,000 people, not counting a taxi. If you have a car, you have to pay that. If you have a car, legally you have to have car insurance. You have to pay that. You have to have gas in that car to get to work to make that money.
Now if you can tell me you can get all of that out of $339 you’re lying.
You are so focused on rent that you aren’t thinking about everything else people have to pay for. Rent was an example. This is a breakdown of the budget you gave me and it’s not possible to live off that in 2017 America.
And BECAUSE this person makes over $800 a month, they probably won’t qualify for financial aid or food stamps. $800 is the line in my state where they won’t help you. No food stamps, financial aid, or government housing if you make more than $800 a month.
Why does it bother you that people deserve to live above the poverty line?
let’s also not forget that the entire country can’t just move to “ALL” of the southern states.
the city i live in, a one bedroom apartment is going for $1200 - $2500/month and, no, these aren’t the really nice apartments. these are the old apartments and have 300-400 sq ft
but, yes, please, tell me how making minimum wage can get you a place to live as well as water, electric, trash, food, any medications (prescription or OTC), etc.
and “Bernie Sanders supporters aren’t going to fact check him, and they’ll ignore any contrary evidence that’s presented to them anyways”?
i think you have them mistaken with 45 supporters, but, please continue what you’re doing because it’s really helpful for everyone to know that “ALL” southern states have apartments for $500/month. I’m booking my flight now.
Also the rule of thumb is that you shouldn’t be spending more than 30% of your paycheck on rent. If a person’s rent is $500 and they made $1,160 a month and then you account for taxes, then you’re spending more than 50% of your paycheck on rent which is just not sustainable especially if you calculate all of your other monthly fees such as utilities, gas, food, car insurance, medical insurance, etc. No one wants to be living paycheck to paycheck. People want to put some of the money they’re making away into a savings so they can afford things like furthering their education or saving up for a home one day. But that’s not possible off of minimum wage.
My guess is that these 2 folks that actually believe people can survive off of minimum wage do not live on their own and don’t have the experiences of actually having all of their own expenses without help from mom and dad.

Can’t believe I was sucked into watching 2.5 seasons of a show in which a poor immigrant black guy has a horrible life and then dies.
tv writers everywhere: *kills off fan fave for shock value*
me: oh wow. how groundbreaking. so innovative. truly amazing. I’ve never seen this before. what a masterpiece. bless.
htgawm: kills wes me:
Wes Gibbins: good representation, mentally ill, with good plots and relationships to develop, finally happy, with a "possibly" baby on the way, overall a complex character.
Frank: Delfino.
wes gibbins was a mentally ill black man who had to go through watching both of his parents die and losing his girlfriend. he finally found happiness and trust in laurel and on top of that he was going to be a father, and htgawm decides to have him brutally murdered? when the actual white devil himself frank delfino was literally RIGHT FUCKING THERE…….. BEGGING TO DIE…….. WHAT THE FUCK
What happened? Do you know? Did you see him in the house? Do you know what happened?
how to get away with murder ? i don’t know her
me: 2016 can’t possibly get any worse…
HTGAWM winter finale:
Season 1? who killed Sam? Wes.
Season 2? who shot Annalise? Wes.
Season 3? who’s under the sheet? Wes.
Season 4? who killed Wes? Wes.
