I know I’ll never be able to exercise the way I used to — I can’t lift weights, I can’t do Vinyasa yoga, I can’t participate in a Tough Mudder or play volleyball…but after much research, I stumbled upon a video that truly outlines a healthy way for people like me to get in shape safely.
Y’all, this article is an incredible resource for anyone with EDS and Hypermobility. It fully lays out the issues we face, the kinds of exercises we should do, and what to avoid, with great musculoskeletal diagrams to illustrate and help you better understand your own body. Even if you think you know everything about your illness, be sure to give this one a read. It’s really fantastic.
As Chelsey notes,
It took me more than three years to find something that might work and it took me doing my own research after three rounds of physical therapy from three different therapists to stumble upon a video that explained the proper way for me to move. Not a single one of my therapists knew how to treat EDS and, as it turns out, all of them were having me do exercises incorrectly.
With this article under your belt, you’ll have a huge jump start on getting back in shape—whether that be super ripped or just vaguely human-shaped with all the joints in more or less the right place 😉
