thanks for making this zine. it makes me feel less crazy and alone! really nice to have something like this for the local area. everyone seems so alienated these days but your zine gives me a sense of community that theres like minded people out there, maybe more than I think. theres still hope and beauty and creativity around no matter what. good stuff!

Doomscroll #5 is out now!

The first photos of Boscombe's stream in more than a hundred years.

An essay on the hidden costs of being socially active.

A dive into the UK's burgeoning state surveillance apparatus.

A quick reflection on the death of community in the modern world.

A look at the issues dragging down local government across the country.

A breakdown of a senseless and preventable sewage spill on Bournemouth Beach.

And, finally, a poem about the starling murmurations on the Somerset Levels.

Naturally, the issue is bookended with art by Mace and Moray and capped off by the music picks you've come to expect over the past year!

Just had an update from the printers and issue #5 will be here on the fifteenth of April all going well with the misprinted images corrected.

We've had to delay the release of Issue 5 due to the issues we've ordered arriving with misprints on about a third of the pages, we're working to get a new batch as soon as we can and we'll keep you posted for when they arrive!

Sorry for the delay and thank you for keeping us going for a full year!

Protest and counter protest at the RNLI in Poole today, the far right were outnumbered 2:1 and shown that they aren't the silent majority they think they are. Read all about it in the next issue of Doomscroll in April.

200 years ago, a river flowed onto Boscombe Beach. Though it hasn't seen the light of day since before Victoria kicked the bucket, we're going to prove in the next issue* of Doomscroll that it's very much alive.

A defence of houses of multiple occupation in Bournemouth.

An article on the rights the public have to paddle on and swim in the River Avon and the people undermining them.

A reflection on Bournemouth's Christmas Market and the relative dearth of similar events throughout the year.

An essay on how doomscrolling became the main way of interacting with social media, and the financial obstacles to change.

An article on how the forces of capital are weaponising loneliness.

And, finally, an environmentalist poem by a new contributor.

This is in addition to art from Moray, and another new contributor, Lisa Doop, along with high key photos of the latest graffiti on St. Catherine's Hill.

The usual seasonal foraging guide.

An article on the disproportionate impact of the Online Safety Act on niche online communities.

A guide to preserving your clothes.

Notes on finding community in your local area.

And, finally, a five page interview with local government corruption expert Alex McKinstry on the worst excesses of the previous Tory administration at Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole.
