WARNING: this au is going to have various horror elements. veiw at your own discretion. this is a blog for @abyssforphantoms sky:cotl season of abyss au, where the cackling cannoneer somehow got a doppelganger that thinks they are the real cannoneer and yet other... more sinister things from below arise to the surface.
So a lil explanation: Krill has their au were their version of Mellow Musician and Cackling Cannoneer had a kid, named Nessa. She is the kid you see here and somehow Doppelneer ended up basically being her entle/aunt from another universe... How that happened is either A. Reen somehow escaped their universe and ended up in Nessa's. B. Or Nessa somehow ended up in Reen`s universe
(I hope it's A. just simply because the universe Reen is from is messed up but also Nessa would be confused if they saw my Neer and Angler dating ToT.)

They are supposed to have markings by the eyes and since forgot to include them have Cannoneer laughing at Doppelneer because they think it looks like ridiculous makeup.
(fr though, I hc that big challenges would be cannoneer's favorite Sanrio character)

Also, seriously, don't grab them by the mandible horns those are sensitive and only connected to "muscles" and tissue with minimal support structures. As for upside down by the tail is just disorienting for them and freaks them out.

Been a bit... but updated Thousand Eyes and Golden Eyes refs!
If you don't know what I mean by those names points at the creature that's usually lurking in the distance in treasure reef (even though they took a vacation to sanctuary recently.)
Going to include some transcripts of some of the more noteworthy notes... just in case if it's hard to read.

Scales - Has occasional patchy missing scales. They are not always covered in micro darkness but go through occasional build up and mass shedding
22 out of the 51 eyes on their face is missing
With pupils - These eyes are inspired by a screenshot of a cave in treasure reef for an Abyss spirit related daily quest. The cave looks like a subliminal eye to me and thought it would be a cool detail to add.
Wing parts were severed but limbs remain

Golden Eyes - The Leviathan
Inquisitive, they watched the tiny beings it took interest in from a far, and sparked a distant dream. One day, an interloper wrought havoc on the beings and The Regal Observer for once did not stand idle. The opponent fell, however, The Beholder became ill and regrettably the beings finally perceived it in a time of weakness. Contained the once uncontainable. Inconsiderations prominent. Unrequited trust betrayed.

Large dorsal fin
Mineral deposits gather and naturally form around specific parts of the body. Used for protection or display. Closest to eels but is made of a similar rock material that the masks that form on elder manta and whales are made out of. Also similar to crabs "shells" and even sky folk masks to some extent.
4 sets of larger fins - small collection of fins similar to the sanctuary elder manta
Scales - has very faint gold splotches that can't be seen from a distance
Blue coloration inspired by night birds and certain accessories (points at flight)
Less patterns on underside
Subliminal eye patterns - [additional art note] friendly reminder to myself that simplification is my friend and to do it when I feel like I need to (especially with pattern details.)

YEP!!! Better believe it! It's pen and ink done by hand. (Mainly restricted myself to an 01 and 03 pigma micron for this one)
Actually, quite a few of my pieces here are... and are even in the same sketchbook!
I kinda bounce around various traditional mediums a lot and dable in digital... art wise, but something about pen and ink keeps me coming back! I just find it relaxing in spite of it being time-consuming (although sometimes I'm pretty fast at it) and have to take frequent breaks to avoid hand cramps.
I also like that it can come off vibe wise as more... hauntingly beautiful? Idk, lol.
Sometimes, I will even scan my lineart and color it digitaly like I did with this.

Made multiple pallets for eel finally because depending on where they are and lighting, changes how they look. Here some screen shot examples.

If u ever wonder why part of the river makes weird spooky noises they are the reason why. Tgc just never removed the noises after event so now there is just an invisible eel that haunts the waters of peaks
