I think part of getting better is complete ego death. Like you’re not above setting a timer for 5 minutes and focusing on a task. You’re not above doing a very simple 3 minute workout to start. You’re not above reading for 10 minutes a day when you first get out of your reading slump, even if you used to read for hours. You’re not above starting slow and then building up to where you want to be/where you once were. What you are above is total inertia. Doing something really is better than doing nothing. Radically accept where you are, radically accept your limits, and go from there. Don’t let your ego get in the way.

#this is genuinely a difficult thing for me #esp with working out #I did all my being weak and sucking at things when I was literally 2-4 years old #then I was just at a baseline of being strong and capable until my disabilities because disabling #*became #now that I’ve lost all my strength and flexibility idk how to work out at my new baseline and it feels like so little work comparatively #I get so embarrassed by where my realistic line is

i think one of the worst things the left wing internet ever did was push the idea that oppression is basically a virtue, and being oppressed is a sign of your morality. it has made it like…impossible for some of you to hold the idea that most people are privileged in some ways and oppressed in others. AND a lot of you seem to have it in your mind that terrible people cannot be oppressed, and that oppressed people cannot do terrible things, which is a dangerous rhetoric to hold imo.

Not only is it important so you don't get taken advantage of by terrible people wielding their oppressions as weapons, but also your convictions against oppression should not be contingent on the morality of the people suffering. Shitty people don't deserve to be oppressed either. Human rights are one of those things you only really understand and believe in if you see them as universal, not conditional.

i love that kel in all her books constantly stresses about whether or not she’s having the normal romantic and sexual desires for other girls her age or if she’s feeling something wrong and keeps thinking she should want to be partners with the men closest to her but feeling that desire fade as soon as they aren’t pursuing her…… and then goes on to be confirmed aroace that fits so well for her

Another good ace literary character is the main char of Every Heart a Doorway which I’ve been enjoying thoroughly. Nancy falls more along the “character has a modern understanding and states their sexuality clearly in text” lines than Kel, who has a unique exploration of her sexuality through the books and the author got the language to confirm her orientation after publishing .This can be a pro or a con depending on your preferences

There’s also a trans guy, he’s great.
