Hey, author friend come closer. No, closer. Let me tell you a secret: your book needs beta readers before it even dreams of meeting an editor.

Why? Because your brain has been living inside that manuscript like a long-term tenant. You don’t notice the leaks anymore. But a beta reader? Oh, they’ll walk in and immediately say, “Uh… why is your protagonist suddenly left-handed in Chapter 7?”

They catch the messy bits. They scream when a twist works. They tell you when something makes zero sense (lovingly).

Think of beta readers as the loyal friends who tell you if you have spinach in your teeth before you take the photo. Editors? They’re the ones who make the photo look perfect afterward.

So yes, you need both. But betas go first. Trust the process.
