Practice Makes Perfect || Carter & Doris

Doris stared at Carter slack-jawed, but only for a moment. Quickly, she had to regain her composure. What a fucking useless sack of shit. Of course he was going to do this to her. Of course. Pathetic. This is why people were the worst. She could only rely on herself to get things done. Only she was good enough. Carter was nothing. “I can’t fucking believe you,” she spat at him, jabbing her wand at him. “I told you to do one thing, Carter! One thing!” She was screeching now, her voice rising dangerously and any semblance of control she had rapidly melting into nothing. “You’re so fucking useless! You’re the worst!”
The boy was crying, sobbing violently beside her, struggling against her now one-handed hold. Trying to get to Carter’s side, feeling safe because of stupid Carter. Doris bared her teeth, all but throwing Tommy fucking Millen towards his ‘saviour’. “After all I’ve done for you. After everything I shared with you. You betray me?! You’re going to do this to me!?” Doris tossed her head back in a frustrated yell, throwing her arms down to her side before quickly snapping back to attention, flinging her arm towards the boys as she screamed the incantation for the killing curse. It wasn’t her favorite way to kill people, but it was useful. Clean. The green flash hit the trembling Tommy Millen square in the back, working quickly. His body crumpled to the ground and Doris laughed in victory.
Everything was falling apart around her. She couldn’t fucking believe it. She couldn’t fucking believe it. What a predictable chain of events. She should have seen this coming. “God, Carter. I thought I knew you better. But I guess this just goes to show you don’t know anything about anyone, right? You worthless piece of trash. You’re nothing to me. This is the end. You’re next.” And she leveled her wand at him, standing up straight and puffing her chest out proudly. This was over. Carter was over. From now on, it was just going to be her and her alone.
The way it always should have been.
