"Nymeros" indicates "of the line of Nymeria,"referring to the union of the Martells with the Rhoynish warrior queen Nymeria around 700 BC. Prince of Dorne rules Dorne from Sunspear in southeastern Dorne. The Martells of old used a spear as their emblem, while Nymeria and her Rhoynar used the sun as theirs. When Nymeria wed Lord Mors Martell, the symbols were combined into a gold spear piercing a red sun on an orange field. Their words are Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken.

Tamina has no trouble adjusting to an unfamiliar environment; when the king dies, she urges Dasdan to join her in escaping the city, then plays various pranks on him in an attempt to get the dagger (trying to kiss him, fainting and hitting him with an old bone, stealing the dagger from him while his back is turned, and creating a riot in the slave market / race track so she can escape). But despite her opportunism, she focuses on a single goal, what she perceives to be her “destiny” – to protect the dagger at all costs from those who would misuse it. Her inferior Ni shows up in her surprise at Dastan’s interpretation of events, her own negative fears for the future (the gods will swallow up the world), and in her loss of Self when she believes she has failed her destiny.

She makes almost immediate, sharp moral judgments on every single thing Dasdan does; she scorns them for defeating her armies, breaking into her city, and taking her captive; she mocks Dasdan for his weaknesses and challenges him on his lack of an ethical center, and she urges him to find a “greater” purpose, but all her remarks are either calculated to express her deeper resentments or achieve a greater purpose – her goal of recovering the dagger, appeasing the gods, and setting things to rights. She gives orders like nobody’s business, and has no trouble defending herself verbally or physically (Se/Te).
