How to unfall for this guy:
1. You canât.
2. Find a new goal.
Iâve fallen and I canât get up.
Iâve fallen and Iâm looking for even deeper holes to fall intoâŠ
the shadows among the stars: chapter three
Summary: Sequel to the alchemical wedding. Garcia Flynn and Lucy Preston have timewalked to 1590 London, in search of answers about the mysterious manuscript Ashmole 782. But as they tangle with alchemists, assassins, witches, vampires, daemons, queens, and emperors â and the de Clermont family themselves â they quickly realize that their quest will be far more difficult than they ever imagined, and their relationship will be challenged as never before. In the present, their formidable enemy Michael Temple is more powerful than ever, the rival creature factions on the Congregation scheme and intrigue against each other, and in both centuries, the danger and the shadows are only deepening. Rating: M Status: WIP Previous: Lady Clairmont
Chapter 3: Much Ado About Nothing
Flynn does not get much done for the rest of the day. The looming terror of the audience with the Queen tomorrow overshadows his concentration, and he is still too rattled by the encounters of the morning. Intellectually, he should have remembered that the de Clermonts do own that hunting lodge in Essex, that Gabriel was often in and out of London (in and out of London indeed) and there was a chance of meeting him here, but somehow it never connected to the possibility of actually doing so. Seeing Gabriel as he used to be in his unapologetic peacock playboy splendor, unfathomably rich and handsome and incapable of giving a single shit, but so open and light and happy⊠it impresses on Flynn ever more sharply how much of a shell of his former self Gabriel is these days. Poisoned and unconscious and only a few degrees from dead, but even before that, there was so little left of his vibrant and voluminous and vivid soul, corroded by grief and guilt and rage. It almost seems like murder.
That is not even going into the shock that it was to see Christian again. Flynn might have expected to see Gabriel, if he had thought about it, but Christian has been gone for so long and so unbearably that having his absence suddenly filled again was literally unthinkable. At least Gabriel has been physically present, if emotionally and mentally absent, but Christian⊠God, heâs just the same. Of course he is. Itâs another one hundred and seventy-two years until heâs murdered, and to the end, he was always like this. Flynnâs heart twists like a fist every time he replays it. Christian is entirely innocent of the nuance of politics and the plausibility of feeble cover stories and anything else (you could argue that was the flaw that cost him his life, but at least Christianâs black-and-white view of the world allowed for endless kindness and not moral hypocrisy). He just wanted to rush to wish his uncle and his new aunt well. And to sit there and know whatâs going to happen to him, to him and his loving, laughing father⊠Flynn almost wants to shout a warning, to tell them somehow, but how on earth could he do that? He canât. And yet, he would give anything at all if he could.
Flynn sifts aimlessly through the papers and books on his desk, not really expecting to find anything relevant. He needs to make contact with the School of Night, aside from just an apparently jealous and brooding Christopher Marlowe, and find out what theyâve been working on, without sounding as if he has suddenly forgotten the past several months. He is also interrupted periodically by Robert Parry and the servants, who have to ensure that the installation of Lucyâs new quarters and possessions is proceeding to his approval, and Flynn, trying to forestall further disruption to his already tenuous concentration, barks at one of the younger grooms until he scuttles out, close to tears. Once heâs gone, Flynn sinks back in his chair and curses to himself. No matter what he has said to Lucy about respecting the customs of the time, he does not need to fall into all his old bad habits. Which, it seems, he has made a damn good start at doing.
Having assured himself of being left alone for at least a few hours, Flynn makes questionable use of it at best, as he keeps zoning out instead of working. He finally gives up in disgust around three oâclock, gets up, and goes out to the main house, where the servants all look somewhat nervous that he has returned to shout at them for not magically conjuring Lucyâs room from the air. âMy lord,â Parry says. âWe are doing the utmost that we â â
âAye, I am sure it is the best that can be achieved,â Flynn says gruffly. âIt was a great surprise to thee, I know. Thou hast my apologies for the distemper.â

Me when a new chapter of this fic posts.
I had a vivid sex dream last night. Starring me and Gabriel de Clermont. This is your fault. đ€€
Nonny, I see nothing wrong with this. Especially because my most current faceclaim for Gabriel is David Gandy, and he looks like this:

Whump Prompt #27
When a whumpeeâs found family isnât let into their hospital room because theyâre not blood relatives
âYou need to let us see him!â
Most people wouldnât dare defy the young woman with fierce eyes and shaking hands. Indeed, the nurse greatly wishes she was anywhere else, but she holds her ground. âIâm sorry, Miss, but since none of you are his family-â
âWe are his family!â Itâs still the young woman speaking, but behind her, the others nod. âWe are the only family he has left, and he needs us. Please.â
âYou donât know what youâre doing.â From the back of the group, another woman emerges, slightly older, with dark hair twisted up in a knot on her head. âTrust me, you need to let us in there.â She is calmer than the youngest woman, composed, but her eyes are red-rimmed, and her voice is thick with warning.
Truly, the nurse would love to give in. Her heart aches at the thought of anyone suffering alone. However⊠âHospital policy. I cannot let you see him yet. Iâm sorry.â
âYouâre sorry?â The youngest woman is practically vibrating, rage dancing in her eyes. Briefly, the nurse considers calling security, but then, yet another woman steps forward this one is the oldest, maybe in her fifties, and she moves with an air of authority.
âJiya.â A single word is enough to still the younger woman. âLucy. We have to let them do their jobs. Theyâre trying to help him.â
The second woman (Lucy?) shakes her head. âNo. You know what heâll do if-â
âAnd we tried to tell them.â The eldest shrugs simply. âNow they can find out for themselves.â
A chill curls around the nurseâs spine. What, exactly, will he do?
The men still havenât spoken, but they watch the women carefully, as if waiting for their cue. The eldest woman nods, and the group moves to the waiting area, settling into the sticky old chairs to wait.
Suddenly, there is screaming.
âSir! Sir, you canât-youâll pull your stitches! You have to-â The frantic voices of doctors and nurses blend together over the beeping of hospital equipment.
âWhere are they?â Itâs more a growl than a question, and the nurse has to fight the urge to hide like a child. âWhere are they?â
Her gaze drifts to the mismatched group in the chairs. Theyâre all watching her carefully, waiting for permission. She hesitates, then-
âLet me go!â One of the doctors pleads, and the nurse caves. With a single gesture, the group rises as one, Lucy and Jiya falling into the lead.
Lucyâs voice is soft when she steps through the door. âFlynn.â
Silence. The entire hospital seems to go still at that one gentle word.
The next part is too quiet for the nurse to hear, and she edges closer to the door, straining for a hint of what might be happening.
âItâs okay.â Jiya this time. âYouâre safe.â
âWeâre all safe.â
Garcia FlynnâŠin the red outfitâŠfrom the Benedict Arnold episodeâŠreblog if you agree
Hmmm I agree⊠with enthusiasm.
My loves.
Your nonnies are amazing. I live for their questions and your replies! Iâve been laughing my ass off for the last 20 minutes.
I also love my TAW anons/asks so much. They crack me up every time and I love seeing everyoneâs takes on the story/everyone yelling at Flynn to stop being so useless/the start of #SaveGabriel. So yes.
Also, I am spending the evening doing research for book 2 on the sixteenth century/Elizabethan England/historical alchemy/so on, and I am going to have so much fun with this you guys. For example: apparently it was customary to have a guy with a stick walk in front of well-to-do gentlewomen when they were out in public, presumably to beat off vagrants or whatever. This is going to cause Lucy and Flynn considerable panic, because Past Flynn is a bachelor and doesnât really have a dedicated Stick Man in his household to valiantly guard the virtue of his wife while she is out and about. Lucy doesnât think she really needs one, sheâs a witch and can defend herself, but sheâs already going to get a lot of funny looks and she probably shouldnât be out alone anyway. So whoâs going to be stuck as Stick Man? Karl. Karl will be stuck as Stick Man. Will he have judgmental feelings on all this? Absolutely.
I really cannot wait.
Omg Iâm dying!!
Masked gunman: your money or your life!
Karl: my life.
Masked gunman: uhâŠhuh?
Karl: srsly. Have you met my boss?
A tech-savvy art historian uses lasers to understand how medieval builders constructed their architectural masterpieces.
This article is from 2015, and while it cannot possibly replace the original, Iâd like to point out that itâs due to an art historian (one of the professions most routinely sniggered at and made fun of as âuselessâ) that we have incredibly high-quality precision images of every inch of Notre Dameâs interior.
They are going to have to use Professor Tannonâs work to rebuild pretty much everything. But of course, something something get a useful degree?
Andrew Tallon who passed Nov 16, 2018 was an esteemed member of the Vassar College faculty where he shared his passion for art. His work will nondoubt prove integral to the rebuilding process.
Please do regale me of tales of the utter uselessness of a liberal arts degree.
Thank you, Pr. Tallon
Help us raise them thar blogs from that thar dead!
Hey @staff and @support (SIGNAL BOOST ME PLEASE FOLKS SO THEY HEAR US!)

PETITION TO BRING @qqueenofhades BACK
@staff @support
Her blog was unfairly and without warning deleted (as were many other blogs) and itâs been almost a month and she has yet to get her blog back despite her many emails and emails from friends on her behalf. So now we have a sort-of petition.
Please reblog this while @ing staff and support so that they will get a lot of notifications. Restore her tumblr. BRING BACK OUR QUEEN!
Note: Permission was given by qqueenofhades to do this, original idea came from this ask here. Be polite when you reblog, rudeness will get us nowhere. Thank you!
@staff, @support, please bring my blog back, k?
15 Garcy Whump Ideas, Part I
Plus a healthy serving of angst and fluff.
Because I know someone out there has to be writing garcy hurt/comfort / whump, letâs draw you out of the woodwork. Iâll probs get around to all of these eventually, but if thereâs one youâd particularly like to read (or write!) just let me know ;)
Warnings for the usual whump nonsense: mentions of captivity, injury, drugging, death, torture. Nothing too graphic.
1. One of them gets nightmares and begs to share the otherâs bed.
2. Lucy and Flynn are held captive and fed very little. It takes Lucy a few weeks to notice that Flynn hasnât been eating so that she can have more.
3. During a mission in S1, Flynn finds Lucy alone and unconscious with fever. Unwilling to leave her behind, he takes her back to his hideout to nurse her back to health; however, his men decide sheâs too much of a liability, so they throw the still-feverish Lucy out into the cold and tell Flynn that she escaped.
4. Lucy is captured and drugged so she canât move or speak, but Flynn rescues her. They pause in running to catch a breath, and Lucy sees their pursuers creeping up on Flynn, but canât speak or move to warn him.
5. During the post-S1 period when Lucy was with Rittenhouse, sheâs sent along on a mission to kill Flynn as a young man. Lucy gets separated from the others and ends up on the run with young Flynn, trying to protect this frightened young man without blowing her cover. When they run into the others, Lucy pretends she was bringing Flynn to them, while trying to figure out a way for her and Flynn to escape. Then Flynn is begging his new friend not to hurt him, and Emma is handing her a gun.
