DOSA HUNT trailer. Remind yourself. We’re screening again.
The first DOSA HUNT screening in over a year is here! On Saturday, 4/11/15, we screen at Brown University for the Ivy Film Festival. Free, and open to the public. Afterward we’ll Q&A, then there’s a reception (dosa will be served), and then Dapwell DJ’s the afterparty until they shut down the club in Providence. YOU SHOULD COME. Here are details.
If you, or someone you love, attends the University of Maryland, please come to a special event: On Thursday 9/26 I will lecture, and screen DOSA HUNT, at McKeldin Library. This will be followed by a proper dosa + dancing afterparty, held in Dorchester Lounge. Compliments of UMD and the Global Communities council. Educational! Come through — details here.
COME THROUGH!
The short film Dosa Hunt follows a group of young men searching for the perfect Indian crepe in New York City – tackling issues of cultural identity on the way.
This past week/end on BBC TV, the BBC World News aired a segment on the fans and themes of DOSA HUNT. It ruled. You can watch it now, at bbc.com.
Dearest Europe: DOSA HUNT goes international for our European premiere, at Helsinki, Finland's FLOW Festival. Fin-ally! (You get it.) We screen Saturday 8/10 and Sunday 8/11. Kraftwerk and Searching For Sugarman will be playing also, which is major. Here is info on FLOW's selected films, and FLOW's DOSA page for detailed info on our screening times.
Love, Dosa.
San Francisco, we loved you so much last time that we are coming back to you: DOSA HUNT will screen as an official selection of the Asha Film Festival on Saturday, August 24th. Here is a full list of the festival's films. There are so many good places to get dosa in SF, so go get some, come watch, make a day of it.
Happy to announce DOSA HUNT's Seattle premiere as an official selection for Bumbershoot Music & Arts Festival. We're on Sunday 9/1 @ 8PM. Here's the general film page, and here's more info on our particular slate of films.
See you there. Tell us where to eat, also.
Screen Habits: Amrit Singh On Vine, Anthony Bourdain & ‘The East’
The Stereogum editor and Dosa Hunt filmmaker shares his most recent media discoveries and his theories on the future of watching things on screens.
Shoutout Tribeca Film Festival for this piece, which is expansive.
The honorable national public radio news program PRI's The World with Marco Werman invited Amrit Singh for a segment on dosa and cultural hybridization. It's nice! More info, and a transcript, at theworld.org.
INDIA ABROAD put Amrit Singh on the cover. Giant hand, Vampire Weekend shirt, lifetime of Lebowski jokes. Tell your Auntie & Uncle Ji. (Here's a transcript, and here's a PDF.)
This weekend I was on KCRW’s Good Food with Evan Kleiman, describing dosa to the NPR set. Everyone got along beautifully! (Also, after the interview Evan and KCRW launched their own hunt on Instagram, with this page pulling all #dosahunt-tagged photos. So much love.)
The Huffington Post wrote a very nice thing.
A playlist of new summer jams for your Independence parties: Here is CRUEL SUMMER 2013, the annual heartbreak of a mixtape by Amrit, compiling the year's best music, sequenced to please. And it's entirely free and legal, just like America. (For more info on any of these tracks, head here.)

If you're near NYC and haven't seen us yet, this is a nice chance! DOSA HUNT is screening at 86 Orchard St. at 8PM on Tuesday, June 18th, as an official selection for the LES Film Festival. This is pretty close to the Punjab Grocery at Houston and 1st, so we can get samosa afterward. Come through! Tickets are here.
DOSA HUNT in THE TIMES OF INDIA & THE INDIAN EXPRESS
Respect to The Times Of India for this!
"'Dosa Hunt' is more than just a search for New York's best dosa. It's a short film about the Indian community's growth and search for cultural roots in the US."
Also, respect to The Indian Express for their kind piece!
And finally, respect to all of our masis and mamas who saw these in print in India and called our parents in America and made us look good, also!
Love, DOSA.
This week’s podcast guest is…
Stereogum Executive Editor and “Dosa Hunt” Director Amrit Singh
He joins Chuck and Zach to talk about Dosa Hunt, the short film he made last year featuring members of Vampire Weekend, Yeasayer, Das Racist and more in a van looking for dosa in Manhattan and Queens. We talk about what it was like to grow up as a brown indie rock dude in America and more importantly how hot Anand from Yeasayer’s mom is.
Download the episode! You can also stream the episode below through Stitcher:
This is a fun hour, this Food Is The New Rock podcast -- in which Amrit spreads a lot of love for DOSA HUNT, NYC & LA, and in which Zach and Chuck (the hosts) say a lot about the things they love. Download the MP3, or stream it in that player!
Reminder to NYC: DOSA HUNT will screen at Tribeca Cinemas on Friday 5/3 as an official selection for New York Indian Film Festival. Come enjoy lower Manhattan with us.
