“Damn it,” Feyre muttered as she stumbled over a root hidden beneath the leaves. She had been humming that stupid song for what had to be an hour now, as if it would make her feel less lonely. It didn’t. Nor did it make her feel less lost. 

She had no idea why that particular song had popped into her head today. She hadn’t thought about it in years. She used to hear some of the more daring children sing it when their parents weren’t there to scold them for singing about the monsters that lurked in the dark. Maybe the song came to her at this very moment because she somehow knew that she was about to meet one of the things that had inspired it. Or maybe because she was lost and had no fucking clue how to find her way home, especially not when the day grew darker by the second. Feyre knew in her heart that if she was still out here when night fell, she was never going to make it home again.
