You know what? I’d never want to be loved for my ‘usefulness’. That I would be loved, deserving of love, accepted, wanted, desired because I was ‘useful’. Because at some point I washed the floors and cut the grass, and I was ‘useful’ then I can be loved. That I’d have to prove my value, pay the toll of being worthy of love through household tasks or some heroics.

It’s such an insane point of view.

Particularly coming from women.

Does anyone ever ask whether Azriel chopped enough wood, washed enough dishes and knitted enough scarves to be deserving of love?

Did Gwyn dust enough furniture? Changed enough diapers? Washed enough laundry? Or unless she hits some quota, she can’t be loved?

Did Lucien, the princeling who mostly lounged around palaces and mansions, went hunting and mused on the uselessness of humans…is he worthy of love? Did he catch enough fish? Did he grow enough potatoes? Plough the fields?

The notion that Elain doesn’t deserve love because she didn’t help out in the cottage is actually laughable.

Imagine not putting a price on love. Especially if you are a female. Because god forbid a woman is simply loved. Not because she is pretty, thin, accomplished, domesticated and helpful. But because she is.
