Are there any common Mean Girls fandom opinions that you’ve seen/noticed that you disagree with or utterly confuse you?
Where did the name June George come from. Like, I know it's according to the wiki(.mp3) but who governs the wiki? Because they don't govern me. The only name for Mrs. George that is spoken in canon is Sabrina. You will never get me on the June train and you will also pry DC Mean Girls out of my cold, dead hands. We are losing the ancient texts. We used to be a country with laws (Regina's original white bunny costume) and standards (Bossed Up).
Regina would not allow anyone to call her Reggie. I don't care who it is. I don't care how much she likes them. I simply do not envision a scenario where someone calls Regina Reggie and lives to tell the tale. Every time I see it, it yanks me out of whatever I'm reading and I have to remind myself through gritted teeth that disagreement is part of the rich tapestry of the fandom experience and this is not, in fact, a crime.
Whoever said that Regina misheard Janis say that she's Lebanese and thought she said "lesbian" and now everyone repeats it as if it's a canon fact and Regina's homophobia is some big, funny misunderstanding. Let Regina be regular old homophobic! It's a core part of her characterization. Especially in 2004, when you needed an excuse not to be homophobic.
The bimonthly "Janis was the real mean girl" post in the Mean Girls tag by people testing out critical thinking for the first time. It's called Mean Girls, plural. That's, like, [gestures vaguely] the whole thing. Please stop making me read 700 versions of this post.
People who act like they are personally oppressed because strangers on the internet ship Rejanis, as if they are the only person on the planet ever bullied in school. To be clear, not people who dislike Rejanis, but those who claim they'll receive death threats if they voice this opinion (actual thing I saw someone say recently) as if the entire fandom couldn't fit inside my apartment. I find it odd that they insist on reducing Janis to just a victim and strip her of any agency she has in canon and would personally sharpen the blade on the guillotine for 13-year-old Regina. Idk, man. I guess I just think people have the capacity to change after middle school.
Fanon Shane is canon to me. If you try to use him for nefarious purposes, I will kick you in the shins. All Shanes are actually leased from me (like panda diplomacy) and violations of the stated terms will have your access revoked.
I was going to say I don't really understand the basis for Janis/Karen and Janis/Gretchen (not a disagreement, just mild confusion), but then I reread my above point and also the fic I wrote where Shane and Damian got married and I think I should actually stay in my lane on this one. I haven't seen much of these two ships with the 2024 movie, anyway.
This is just beef I have with canon but 2024 Regina would not drive a Jeep. Unfortunately I think she'd drive a Tesla.
I'll stop here before I start listing every minor, petty thing that I find even mildly annoying.
