If it wasn't already clear before, this episode spells out why Rann and Lené were so drawn and immediately latched on to each other. Rann and Lené are the same, in that they both lost their whole families. Lené lost her mother, and it was her father who killed her, so not much of a father. While Rann was loved by her family but they all died by the time she was 18.

Lené longs for the same thing Rann does: a family. And that's what made her so scared, enough to push her away until she could contact her again when she thought it was safe. Much like Rann with Lené, she also cannot afford to lose her whole world.
