Eowyn wasn't embracing her "femininity" when she became a healer after a war.
Eowyn was embracing life and healing.
Eowyn didn't become a healer because she was a woman. Eowyn became a healer because the war had ended and the world needed healing.
I actually do not dip into the LOTR side of the fandom that much so who is your favorite member of the fellowship
Frodo
Sam
Pippin
Merry
Aragorn
Gimli
Legolas
Gandalf
Boromir
The finished music box!
I maybe should have tried to fill in the texture so I had a smoother surface, but this was meant to be a quick one afternoon project and that would have taken too long. It turned out alright anyway
Was tidying up today and found a music box I bought like 5 years ago and intended to paint. Not finished yet but it's not too bad so far

video game and film fandoms will come and go for me but the Silmarillion fandom will never die. because that book came out like 50 years ago and we're all still trying to figure out what the hell is going on there.
Average Silmarillion fan:
Lilacs for the glorious 25th of May,
It's that time of year again.....
fuck i forgot to partake in handmade crafts and whimsy
the very next post on my dashboard was this one
Fanfiction covers part 2; the not Middle Earth related fics.
These were very fun to make, I have a few I didn't end up doing because I couldn't think of any designs that were good enough (I'll get to them eventually). I tried to choose one fic per fandom, so this is kind of a cross-section of fandoms I have been in over the last couple of years.
Blood, Like Pasta, is Thicker Than Water by counterheist
This was a challenge to design and I wish it had turned out a bit more abstract, but I am not an abstract art enjoyer so this is what it is.
Trying to choose a Hetalia fic was surprisingly hard, this one won because it had the most plot. A good fic to read if you like heist stories
Any kind of life (without you, dear) by QueenMaria
My phone camera did not like this picture, I don't know why
The trope of character is presumed dead and we get to see everyone's reactions to said death is my favorite trope in all of fanfiction. And this one is really good,
We Would Be Savage, by 0KKULTiC
I suspect the compass was based on an actual thing, but I did a brief Google/YouTube search, couldn't find anything and decided it would be more fun to make something up anyway. Again I was aiming for something a bit weirder, but it's not bad (I really should use glow in the dark clay more often)
I actually read this before knowing anything about Ateez. This is a really good series, although I was unable to read anything for 2 weeks after finishing it because it was taking up so much of my brain. If you like episodic sci-fi you should read it, it still makes sense even if you have no idea who anyone is. (I speak from experience)
Dazai and the Moving Detective Agency by forest_raccoon
Honestly I like anything Howl's moving castle related, but this is very well done
Not My Game, Not My Plot, Not My Problem, by RevasLavellan
I wish I had used a sunset background to make this look more dreamy, but oh well
This fic is quite short but it's a good read if you just want something to make you smile.
Resident Alien by unclassified_lkg
(I'm not sure if it's clear but the glow in the dark clay is meant to be the alien and the space ship. Turns out trying to paint a snowstorm in clay is not easy)
This is the longest individual fic I have ever read by a lot. After discovering that kpop fics were readable by people like me who can't name members of multiple kpop groups (I still don't know who half the people in this story are based on) I started reading a bunch of them. I remember looking at this and thinking "it's twice the length of anything I've read, but I am sick so what else am I going to do?". I nearly fell off my bed laughing at the autopsy scene and then finished the whole thing in a week.
I have more of these planned but I am moving house in 3 weeks so I might not get to them for a while....
So.
I read a lot of fanfiction.
I have always vaguely wanted to make fan art for fics I have read but I couldn't think of a way to do it that I liked.
But after doing the Howl's moving castle project I had an idea. Making tiny book covers!
So here are my first 6.
I decided to start with Silmarillion fics. In general I went with ones that really stuck in my mind, for some reason or another I really remembered them.
The Harrowing by @chthonion
(I could not get the teacup and the rest of him in focus at the same time.....oh well)

Visions of gold by Leader_In_Red

If you like the Silmarillion I would really recommend reading these.
I just realized I didn't post a photo of the best part of the slime picture
It glows in the dark!

Felt like it was about time I drew some more Feanorian angst~
So here is Maglor doing his thing~
Then without the words:
Then because I thought this one looked cool:
:D
I have been listening to sad angsty music, which is very good for art inspiration. So now we have this :)
Wasn't gonna do any colours to start with, but I'm glad I did, because it was absolutely worth it.

Hey so can you run a poll comparing the age people first read the silm to who their favourite character is (based on the generally most popular options from your popularity poll, ig? Or preferences in character factions could also work.) I was quite small when I first read it, and the only other people I've seen read it at that age seem to have the same blorbo as me, so I wonder if there's a connection between when you were introduced to characters and who you latched on to.
I can certainly try :) How old were you when you FIRST read Silm?
Younger than 10
10-12
13-18
19-25
25-30
31-40
40-50
50-65
65+
Which group does your favorite character fall under?
Feanorians & Finwe + spouses
Nolofinweans
Arafinweans
A lord of Gondolin/named Gondolin character (Glorfindel, Ecthelion, etc)
A Sinda royalty (Thingol, Luthien, Elwing, etc)
A named Sinda (non royal: Beleg, Mablung, Nellas, etc
A Man (Turin, Beor, Beren, etc)
A Numenorean (Tar-Miriel, Ar-Pharazon, Elendil, etc)
A Dwarf (Telchar, Azaghol, etc)
A force of evil (Morgoth, Sauron, Ungoliant, etc)
An Ainu
Other
Feel free to put your guy in tags, and if you want say how old you are now! Maybe your favorite changed with age :) so first read silm age / blorbo then / age now / blorbo now
So what ARE your opinions on field vs water retting? I’m gonna farm some fiber this year
Water retting makes flax a beautiful golden color, but field retting is easier to keep an eye on.
ALSO, I've come to the conclusion that Tolkein's Teleri elves did field retting for the sails of the swan ships, because field retting leaves the flax a beautiful silvery gray, and while all flax will eventually bleach to white with washing in lye and sun the sails are supposed to be pale and the silver would suit the aesthetic better than the golden color you get from water retting. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.
Oh you’re SO right about that. Now I’m thinking about elven textile manufacturing….
Welcome to our super niche nerd Tolkien Elves Textile Work Fan Club. Me and @batsintheshadows are founding members. We both have Opinions about linen and nettle fiber.
The amount of time they have to master stuff no arthritis or aging eyes their lace craft is probably sickenly good.
THAT'S WHAT WE'RE SAYING LIKE
These MF folks can casually spend 300 years mastering bobbin lace and then can casually spend 100 years making one full length entire ass bobbin lace DRESS out of linen spun as fine as a sigh. Can you fucking IMAGINE the absolute Bullshit they get up to with fancy weaving.
