There are many people who don’t share this sentiment, but I have an appreciation for when a fanfic is so separated from canon that it could’ve easily been its own original novel, and yet the author was only ever going to put that much energy into it if their favourite characters got to be there

I think there’s a difference between “the author stripped the media of everything it had to replace it with something easy” and “the author thought up a concept they really really like and are bestowing it upon the character like a medal”

One of the most critical aspects of Rocky infidelity imo is Grace’s short lifespan. Like yes he will implode his almost 200 year relationship with his mate to spend 40 years (if lucky) with Grace. What happens after? Who knows. Rocky doesn’t care; there isn’t enough time to care. He just wants to be with the person he loves for as long as possible, even if that’s not very long at all.

personally i do not prefer when stories engaging with complicated topics attempt to make themselves good educational resources on said complicated topics

and i understand that sometimes it's a very thin line between giving a realistic depiction of a serious topic and ending up in after-school special mode, but i also notice that no one is doing this when a character gets the flu (which kills many people every year) and PERSONALLY i don't love the patterns i'm vaguely sensing about which experiences can be depicted normally and which experiences must always be a learning opportunity

speaking of jeremy renner nothing is funnier to me than hollywood investing like 20 years into trying to make jeremy renner happen. they wanted him to take over mission impossible. they wanted him to take over jason bourne. they thought people would give a fuck about hawkeye if it was jeremy renner. he's a short and charismaless man why were they trying so god damn hard.

really darkly funny to me if like. okay stucky au in which post-winter soldier bucky is (mandated) talking to a therapist trying to figure out what exactly happened to him so they can figure out how to Therapy All That, and he's got steve with him as like. emotional support obviously.

and they get to the questions involving sexual abuse, and the thing is bucky keeps saying no, that didn't happen to him. He was mostly kept in cold storage and only taken out for missions; HYDRA was not willing to keep him out for a second longer than necessary in case he'd start breaking programming. big sigh of relief. okay, well, did the hydra techs ever do sexual stuff under the guise of it being medical treatment? did they ever do things that felt unnecessary or you couldn't understand the purpose? Particularly stuff that involved penetration, or sexual organs?

No, bucky says. They did not like getting near that stuff on him, on account of how he would tend to kill techs who did.

Steve goes well, what do you mean unnecessary. How can you tell what's necessary or not, especially with evil scientist stuff going on. and Doctors don't like to explain what they're doing when there's like, a million things to do, and HYDRA doctors certainly wouldn't be better about that. And there are a lot of medical tests that require penetration. How's bucky supposed to know the motivations of the techs on all that?

therapist: what do you mean a lot of medical tests require penetration.

steve: well i don't know what all those tests were for so I wouldn't know exactly, but especially back in the 40s there was about- I dunno, ten or eleven tests requiring it per checkup each week?

it’s so special to me that so much of fan culture is textual analysis for the love of the game. like thank god there are people in my phone who are also thinking about this thing i love so much that they are writing transformative fiction as character studies and setting clips of the show to music with theme-relevant lyrics and writing long text posts analyzing every line of dialogue like!! yay!!!
