The rabbit hole scene of Alice in Wonderland (1951), much like the rest of the film, looks amazing in the 4k release. The shifting colors on the background and Alice herself look closer to how they did in the VHS release.

I love the roots on each side of the rabbit hole.
Down the Rabbit Hole (Text Edit) Part II!!
FINALLY I'm posting my second text-based edit of Alice's fall into the Rabbit Hole, this time from the perspective of the Rabbit Hole itself.
I'll be honest: This one took as long as it did because I went through so many different iterations! After all, how do you personify the Rabbit Hole and give it a distinctive personality??? It was a such a challenging thought exercise that really pushed me, and I think I went through...Four different versions before this final version?
In the initial edits, I leaned pretty heavily into the stereotypical "butler" persona, but every time I went back to review the final product, it felt too much like a lecherous old man watching poor Alice float down and struggle with her dress.
I ended up deciding to make the butler more of a maid instead - specifically Mary Ann, the White Rabbit's maid that he mistakes Alice for - to eliminate the "creepy old man" vibe. I wanted Mary Ann to be almost sympathetic with Alice's predicament, exasperated and even experiencing some secondhand embarrassment, as she sees Alice's dress puffing up, and can (almost!) relate to her, but still identifies her as an "intruder" to Wonderland to be dealt with firmly!
Let me know what you guys think! I'm still figuring out other possible edits I can do with this video, and I'm always interested in ideas and thoughts about this sequence in general, so hit me up!!
So when alice grows up, did you ever think she ever had a dream of wonderland again, and she ended up falling down the rabbit hole again and her dress acts like the parachute again how do you think she react to it
WOW I am REALLY sorry it took me so long to answer this question!!!
I personally would love to see a traditionally animated sequel to the 1951 movie, with Alice in her early 20s maybe? A bit like the Tim Burton version but more in tune with the original movie!
I think in a film like that, Alice would definitely react with...Significantly more embarrassment about her predicament in the Rabbit Hole! As more mature young lady, she'd be less keen on her dress puffing up and exposing her in the same way, haha! She might vaguely remember parts of her first adventure, but it could present an interesting opportunity to show if the Rabbit Hole changed at all, compared to her first fall into it. There might even be opportunities for new obstacles and harrowing moments for poor Alice, before she reached the bottom.
Hi, I just wanted to ask you if you have managed to rescue anything else about that version of Alice for adults?
If so I would love to know.
Unfortunately I have not. My old PC was pretty much fried after what I pulled out of it, but I might have some other similar content that I'll try to post in a few days!
How is the second rabbit hole video coming along?
I'm actually putting the finishing touches on it now! Stay tuned!!

Down The Rabbit Hole text video Pt. II update
Hey everybody!!
Before I get into this I wanted to apologize for the hiatus!! I just got a new job in a new office, and I'm also finishing up moving into a new apartment, so I've been...SUPER busy and unable to devote a lot of time or energy to finishing the second Rabbit Hole text-based edit I was working on! I've got a day or two off this week though, so I'm hoping to take the edit I was already working on and actually finish it for everyone who I'm sure was being so patient!!!
Tbh I'm also not super happy with what I had initially come up with, and I was struggling to finalize exactly what this edit was going to look and sound like. Figuring out what Alice might've been thinking to herself as she fell down the Rabbit Hole wasn't too challenging, but how do you come up with the words Wonderland or the Rabbit Hole themselves might be trying to convey to Alice? Would the Rabbit Hole be like an automated system? Or have a butler-like demeanor?
I'm still not 100% sure how to make this work, so I'm going to put out a quick poll to help me organize my ideas a bit better! People can also message me an idea or pointer or two, but like I said, I want to try and get this out sometime this week, so nothing to complicated! Haha!
How should the next Text edit look?
Rabbit Hole = automated, kind of robotic
Rabbit Hole = more like a butler
You haven't posted anything in a while. Is everything ok?
Yeah just BUSY haha! I started a new job and now I'm moving into a new apartment, so things have just been HECTIC and I haven't had time to sit and do edits or reblogs!
Where is the other text edit video you said you made?
I'm about...Halfway finished with it? Unfortunately I'm not super happy with the dialogue I came up with towards the end of Alice's fall, but I PROMISE I'll finish it and post it soon!
Hello? Is anyone there?
Hi yes hello!! Sorry I've been so absent on here lately! Work is absolutely kicking my bitt right now and I haven't had a lot of time to post anything! I'm okay though! Just trying to find some time to finish up the next Rabbit Hole Edit!!
I don’t suppose you know of any anime that make use of the parachute dress trope?
I do know of at least one, actually!
The best one I can think of is based off a Manga by CLAMP called Miyuki-chan in Wonderland, that is Alice in Wonderland-themed, but with a girl wearing a Sailor fuku uniform! Be warned it's...mostly just fanservice (and the Rabbit Hole sequence is practically not even there!) but the OVA adaptation's second part has a portion where the main character does fall off a floating island in the sky, and her skirt does puff up like a parachute for a few moments!
I feel like it was there as an homage to the 1951 film, and it's pretty short, but it's a very cute sequence!! I'd be interested to hear other people's thoughts on it, because it felt like a really natural way to break up a pretty embarrassing series of shots for the character!
You've talked a lot about the chimney section of the Rabbit Hole but why do you think it was there in the first place? Was the Rabbit Hole just designed that way or what?
I think for the purposes of the FILM, the chimney section was put there to help facilitate the "falling through the center of the earth" gag the writers were trying to do, and also give poor Alice another moment of peril to encounter during her fall, to keep the audience on their toes! Haha!
As for the in-universe explanation for why the Rabbit Hole had a bottleneck towards the bottom? You got me there!
It could be that the Rabbit Hole had multiple uses throughout its history and, at one point, it was some kind of chimney or smokestack! If the Rabbit Hole was some kind of "magic portal", the chimney section could be like a final threshold visitors pass through before officially entering Wonderland.
Like I've said in other asks, the Rabbit Hole could have like a built-in intruder alert, with the chimney section being part of that and designed to prevent UNWANTED visitors!
If the Rabbit Hole had a kind of intelligence to it, or reshaped depending on who was falling through it, then the chimney section might've appeared when Alice began to wonder about falling through the center of the earth, or to cause her to fall faster with her dress flying up, to scare her or embarrass her into giving up her chase after the White Rabbit. It certainly was convenient that the bottleneck was JUST wide enough for Alice to fit through while her dress WASN'T puffed out...
Lots of potential explanations, but my money's on the first one. Fun to think about though! GREAT question!!
