hello it's red again!! here with my second muse, trainee #080 nam doyeon from ace label! i'm excited to thread her out with everyone, do read under the cuts for more information!!

nam doyeon, twenty-three! she is born in seoul, south korea (specifically in hannam-dong) and was a drummer in a band called 'dead edges' where it was formed during her all-girls middle school!

it's a free-label band and it's more hobby than something to be done professionally (though doyeon had hoped it would make it big, it's just something that she and her band mates enjoy doing during their free time), she had also aspire to be a doctor and wanted to get into snu as her higher education before becoming a trainee

personality wise, she's someone who is hot headed, arrogant, narcissistic and almost any association of negative trait that could related to her, but don't let her tough girl facade fool you. as she's also someone who has inferiority complex and has brother issues yet a softie on the inside!

that being said, her older brother is an idol right now and gets compared to a lot to him even though they both have different preference with their music. him being more kpop idol while doyeon was more into band music. they're also raised in a family of musicians (their dad an orchestra maestro who occasionally leads the seoul philharmonic orchestra especially during winter performances and a primary school music teacher, while their mom is now a retired opera singer but now a devoted housewife and mother!! (i wonder how they all get their differences in music)) people might not know who her parents are unless they're into the classical/opera music scene but to a certain extend both her parents are successful people whom now live a humble life.

the comparison dont come from their parents because they understand that the whole family is just made up of different genre of music appreciators but rather the people around doyeon??? she gets a lot of "oh your parents are in classical/opera so why arent you playing piano instead of drums" "oh your brother is good in dancing so you must be as good too right?" etc etc

but that being said she's also cousins with niel here!

how did she become an idol despite her aspirations in music being on another genre? she was scouted by a hydra representative during one of dead edges' live gig and auditioned for fun but didn't know she would get into ace. she's here for a good time, not a long time (i supposed)

despite all that, and even if she had been a drummer in her band, she's a decent singer and her audition song for hydra was leebada's night dream. trivia: she worked on the dance for a week despite having no prior experience in dancing

while she may have auditioned for fun, she is giving her 100% in becoming a trainee while discovering why her brother liked this life so much

to others she may seem unapproachable, and she occasionally slips in a few cuss word here and there if she isnt being brute at first sight, but when you get to know her, she warms up to that person that no one else could mess with them

perhaps someone who recognized her and have seen her performing in band (either a regular audience, or has a friend who's into the band, a groupie???) or even had chance upon her in the audience of her parents performance?? in my mind there is a headcanon where played the triangle for one of her father's orchestra eventho she isnt part of the seoul philharmonic musicians (nepo baby or rather they are just fond of baby doyeon)

someone she could call friend! be it a guy or girl as long as they don't soften up at the sight of this tough girl

alternatively, that one person who sees her more than being an idol brother's sister, and essentially recognizes doyeon to be her own person

guy childhood friends??? she went through an all girls school for middle school and after but i would think they stay connected despite all that

her love language is gifting gifts and she's picking up crocheting and knitting, so she would make handmake gifts (be it from trial and error, or perfected goods)

alternatively, fellow plant parent!!! both doyeon and your muse went out together and bought a cactus whom becomes their child and they take turns weekly to house said cactus

roommates housemates all that jazz, anyone who tolerates her lack of personal space esp if they warm up to her!! she isnt a great cook and high chances she does not seperate the whites and coloured clothing but you will never have one boring day with her

niel laughed. "is the hair that different?" he had dyed his hair several times in the past. mostly when he was bored and wanting a change. admittedly he thought often about going back to a dark color in hopes that starlight would see him more as a blank slate. but then inevitably he always wanted to try a new color. the pink was just the latest in a long line of colors.

niel fell in step with his cousin as they headed towards the subway station. "it's okay." he said slowly. "i don't have any word yet about debuting or anything." he was a little bit upset about that fact. "but i got good comments on my last trainee evaluation." niel was clinging on to that really. his last trainee evaluation had been good, the judges seemed to enjoy him. they just didn't seem to know what to do about him. "what about you, noona? did your evaluations go well?"

at the mention of gifts niel blinked widely. "you got me presents?" he asked. he didn't know why it surprised him. doyeon was always buying gifts for him whenever she could. but niel was used to never asking for anything so it still gave him a little surprise everytime someone thought of him. "you didn't have to do that. but thank you, i'm sure your gift will be great."

"it's quite different but i like my favorite couzie in all his hair colors," doyeon grins with her compliment. she has had her chance in seeing niel with all sorts of hair colors especially when promoting in his last group. sometimes she would see him one color and then the next days or weeks, it would be something else. sometimes the older trainee can't help but worry about her cousin's scalp, wondering if it had been treated well with all those treatments she's heard about from her friends whom, as well, loved changing their hair colors with each months or seasons passing them.

as they make their journey towards her home, doyeon listens sincerely, nodding every once and then as affirmation. "i think that's great," she remarks with a grin. "won't be long before they recognize what a gem you are!" the raven-haired female nods to herself. nothing about what she said comes from lies and in fact, she has seen him when nexus debuted before, the way he has full control on stage and how he shined. it won't be long before hydra and specifically starlight music, to recognize how much of a star and idol-borne niel is.

at the mention of presents, she sees how surprised niel;s reaction was and she laughs before shaking her head. "of course i got to get you a present! it's your day after all, and i'm sure oppa has gifts for you too― well, i know he does because he texted me weeks before until today to remind me to hand it to you as well," she rolls her eyes at being reminded on the fact she has texts she has yet to respond to her brother. "i won't tell you what it is until we get home"

as they reach their destination, she unlocks the door of their humble apartment, heading in where they are greeted by doyeon's mother and father whom exchanged their birthday wishes to niel. "i'll go help eomma with the table preparation! meanwhile you can sit and make yourself at home, as we always want you too," she grins, before heading to the kitchen to help with the remaining food preparation. when all that is settled down, they are seated on the table with their regular meal exchange before bringing the birthday cake out that doyeon's father had bought. with every birthday celebration comes the birthday song to which doyeon sings the loudest for. she waits for niel to blow the candles out, remarking "don't forget to make a wish!"

the reactions that aerin gives highly amuses doyeon for most parts, but the other being that the younger trainee is indeed very cute and endearing. she has her accounts of people being mad at doyeon over her rather mischievous and flirtatious attempts but aerin takes it well and had never once got mad. this had then motivated her to flirt at every chance given when she sees the other trainee.

doyeon only grins at the remarks she's given, "hm, let them think of that!" she comments before following up with another sneaky pick up. "can i guess your mbti..?" she asks, pretending to ponder on it as she made a thinking gesture by tapping her forefinger to her temple before answering as the raven haired looks at the younger trainee for a reaction.

"it's gotta be mbti cutie right?" doyeon laughs over her own reply.

Aerin couldn't do anything to stop the way her face just go more and more red. It was almost torture the way her heart pounded in her chest. She could only hope that Doyeon didn't notice.

"Do you flirt with all the trainees like this?" Aerin tried to keep her voice teasing and light, but the weight of her question kept her sounding strained. She was sure she knew the answer -- Doyeon seemed to just have a teasing personality -- but she loved feeling special. Like she really meant those words and compliments specifically for Aerin.

The answer was likely no, she knew that, but still. Aerin glanced over at Doyeon, trying to read her face and work out the answer herself. Half hopeful, half terrified. "I mean, do you? I'm sure they're much meaner in how they respond than I am." A nervous smile made it's way onto her lips and she tried to appear like she wasn't holding onto every word.

as much as doyeon would like to point out how red aerin is becoming; an obvious tone in contrast to her rather white, silky skin tone, she holds herself back from pointing the obvious. it's rather cute as well that the other trainee is doing her best in hiding it.

"well, not all trainees." she emphasizes which were partly true. there were some doyeon casually throws in a pick up line or two, but when they don't reciprocate to it, she moves on to casual conversations. some others play the game as much as she did, and it becomes a cycle of them flirting with one another. others like aerin herself, showed more reaction than throwing an equally awful pick up line and hence sparks her flirtatious nature more. perhaps, if she had been honest, she may have flirted with plenty. but not all.

perhaps there is some sort of anticipation and expectations that aerin has of doyeon and she isn't sure if that would be good. her flirtatious persona has more or less caused both good and bad outcomes towards her, and with aerin, she had hoped it wouldn't lead to anything bad. "well, some really. not all. sometimes they play along with me, but other times they really just smack me and we move along," doyeon confesses with the truth and hopefully it doesn't sound like an excuse to aerin.

for someone who is an introvert, doyeon can be chatty at times that sometimes comes off unwarranted. she knows not everyone enjoys any conversation but who knows, perhaps jihye would be her potential debut colleague for whatever universe would align - or well, in reality if ever hydra has plans for it. the raven haired isn’t sure if she would ever make friends with any of her fellow trainees or possible debut mates, but it doesn’t hurt to try so the very least, they don’t be enemies and eventually live their contractual life in misery. call her a pessimist if you will. can you blame her if she has been reading about all the internal conflicts and bullying that happens within the team?

“that’s long,” she remarks simply over the comment made on jihye’s trainee years. she skips in her step, something she does out of habit and sometimes even her own family member finds it annoying to keep up with her pace. “i’ve only been here a couple days over but it’s definitely my first day loitering around.” she remarks. for most truth, she’s been housing herself in the dance studio, working on her dance movements. she’s not main dancer material, but perhaps if she had worked hard, it would improve little by little.

“so why did you pick hydra..?” doyeon ask curiously; a part of her wonders if jihye had wanted to follow her sister’s footstep since tag was within the hydra label while the other part of her knows jihye had probably wanted to be better.

That’s long. Jihye agreed, but thought it was pretty rude for her to say it out loud. Jihye knew she was ready to debut a long time ago, but the company she was in clearly didn’t see her that way until she auditioned for someone else. So maybe it was a little long, but if she needed to wait this long for the perfect debut to come around, then it was worth it.

Plus, she could name like five other trainees off the top of her head who had been training for longer without any hope, so this girl could chill with the judgement. But, Jihye was still trying to play nice, and maybe the other was just stupid and didn’t realize how the comment could come across. It was possible; not everyone was as smart as Jihye was.

“It’ll be worth it when I debut,” she replied, simply as well, flipping a strand of silver over her shoulder. Then, at her question, she shook her head with a shrug. “They’re the best, right? All the branches have something to offer, and their success rate is very clear.” She didn’t want to add that it was more likely that she was going to get in because of her family tree. She barely knew this girl, even if she knew who she was. “What about you?” It was only polite to reciprocate the question, she supposed.

"when you debut," doyeon repeats it casually but winces when realizing it sounds harsh, as if calling jihye out for the obvious ― which of course, wasn't her intentions but could be read as such. afterall, doyeon is not stranger to intonations and misunderstandings when it comes to verbal context; and if anything, her 'resting bitch face' at times leads her to more trouble when people seem to linked her to the 'mean girl' persona though in reality she isn't one.

"sorry, i didn't mean it like that-" she apologizes first before anything could boil down to a fight of misunderstanding. "it's just- admirable," the raven-haired quickly corrects herself, blinking as she looks at jihye for reactions that could mean otherwise.

doyeon clears her throat and quickly changes the subject, "but you're right, each branches does offer a lot, i supposed i'm excited for when it leads to either of us debuting when the management decides its time, which i hope is soon for you." she remarks sincerely. because unlike jihye whom have years of experiences and training under her sleeves, doyeon is completely new to 'all of this' ― that she barely hit two months in her training and everything just seems to be moving too fast for her liking regardless.

one of doyeon's favorite past time aside of messing with people and playing with her drums, is definitely skating. she picked it up as a mere hobby, thinking that anyone who knew how to skate is automatically cool as cliche as it sounds. plus, it fits her whole aesthetic of being that emo grunge kid. and for the less obvious reason, she had impulsively bought a black skateboard from a thrift shop when she had gone out shopping some time back.

the basics of board skating comes easy to her; not that she spent hours googling and even finding an article on 'how to skate for dummies'. she certainly did not spent time trying to read articles instead of watching it on youtube. she's a fast learner, by all means, but no one around her skate as much as she does so there was truly no one who could teach her.

heading to the skate park, she a particular slop to train on her 'basic ollie' and eventually when she's a bit more improved, she'll learn to do the 180. she wears her protection guard; now that she's an idol, it would be a shame to have her arms and knee be filled with scraps from her falls. her mother has been nagging at her to stop coming home injured, and she gets the most hearing from her company representative.

as she's drops her board on the edge, wanting to try the 'ollie' trick after failing for the tenth time, she sees a familiar figure; one she recognizes from the company building. it's hard to miss anyone as good looking as he is even if doyeon had not know of his name. she walks over to him, slinging her arm over his shoulder as if they were close friends when she barely knew his name. "hey i didn't know you knew how to skate, buddy"

niel was grateful that his aunt and uncle were gracious enough to invite him back to their house for a birthday celebration. it wasn't quite the same as what he'd expected but it was kind of them. and niel wasn't about to complain about it. it was clearly something that had a lot of thought put into it. and it made him feel mildly better about the cancelled plans from his parents.

niel had dyed his roots again, in preparation for it. he'd had some insane growth and the pink was starting to look more faded and like he'd meant to only dye his tips. he wasn't sure how long the bright bubblegum color would stay around but he found that despite the intense upkeep he rather liked it on himself. so might as well look good for his birthday plans. even if the plan was just going to visit his uncle and aunt with doyeon.

he knew that his other older cousin was busy so he probably wouldn't be there. which was mildly disappointing for niel but he also understood that he was probably busy with his own idol life and given that he was older than either him or doyeon he probably had his own life that he wanted to use his breaks for.

he smiled brightly when he saw his cousin. "doyeonie noona!" he said enthusiastically. "i'm ready if you are."

admittedly despite all the image change doyeon has seen of her beloved cousin, she would never get used to the niel that no longer looks like bubblegum pink. she truly liked that color on niel; it made him look vibrant and an epitome of sunshine. there's just this positive energy that seem to radiate of the younger male that doyeon can't quite place in words but as they always say, 'a picture if worth more than words, or in this case, anyone who looks at the younger would know how great her lil cousin is.

"look at you- i almost don't recognize you." she grins with excitement, quick to link their arms together. doyeon for one has never shy away from skinship especially for those she truly treasure close to heart. niel had been one of the few whose presence and existence means more than her own. "let's get going. we wouldn't want to keep eomma and appa waiting before they start barging our phones with calls," she chuckles, leading the way to the subway stations where they'll take the transit back.

"how has your training be, my beloved cousin?" she asks genuinely as they make their way in the commute. the journey won't be long especially when doyeon's family don't live that far from the entertainment building, but doyeon has always known to be chatty when it comes to niel; always wondering about his well-being and if there had been anyone who's bullying him and the likes. some would say she's overprotective but being the older one when excluding her brother, she cares dearly of niel.

"are you excited for the birthday present that i've prepared?" she grins. she's prepared a few number of small gifts ranging from a new set of outfit to some music manuscript that would help him. the money she's saved from her band gigs truly paid of when it comes to showering her favorite cousin with gifts and it so happened to be her greatest love language to the people she holds close to her heart.

― in the depth of winter, i finally learned that within me there lay an invincible summer.

the news comes off as a surprise to doyeon. she had thought that her acts were finally caught; that all the sneaking out and occasionally hanging out and live busking were now something that puts the raven haired at risk. she knows that there's a price to pay for doing something she's been told not to, but can you blame her for keeping the rock spirit on? the drums in hydra does not feel the same, much less the lack of crowd to cheer her on. the fire within her flickers with threats to wear out if she had not hit her hi-hats and snare drums alongside her old band mates. it's hard to break down old habits when you meet on weekly basis, but doyeon at least works hard in not mentioning she's a trainee to anyone and especially to her close friends and band mates.

heading to dance studio number two, she comes to face a few other trainees that she occasionally share dance practices and vocal lessons with, someone whom had been in ace longer than she did yet welcoming if doyeon remembers her first day being introduced. the trainee sighs in relief, part of it knowing that she would not be punished and that she had not been caught yet since it wasn't her alone. she doubts their company representative would be as harsh as to scold her in public and in front of everyone. for worst, it could be a general warning to everyone.

doyeon looks around and wonders if she should start a conversation with the others until the ceo of all cut edge makes her appearance and greets everyone. the introduction was quick yet it did not stop the nervousness that doyeon feels. what had been so grand for the big lady of top ladder to make her very own appearance in front of everyone.

pleasantries were given where it's due; their ceo has always been a warm lady who prioritizes them being a family first rather than people whom had worked under her. the news comes after when she's done, about how they will be surprising the public with a debut in the second quarter and how doyeon will have to go through the candidate position interview that will be coming up soon.

there are other things planned out for them as well, from moving to dorms until it's their time to shine, along with calibrating intensive practices likewise their hydra peers for the debut and a trip outside south korea in march. by now, doyeon feels a sort of adrenaline rush in her blood aside. she's never been out of south korea before, much less out of seoul. her family and the extension of her families all reside within seoul so there had never been a reason for her to travel out. even when her father had to travel overseas for his orchestra, she was too busy studying to follow. doyeon makes a mental note to find out about spain, perhaps practice a few words in spanish. but most importantly, she needed help with preparing her passport and visa.

all excitement aside, the other trainees and doyeon herself have been told to put focus on their dancing and performance skills and that in due time, they'll be pulled to trained alongside a special dance instructor and his crew. the dance instructor whom now doyeon notices once the excitement and nervousness has boiled down, waves towards the girls to which all of them had bid with a bow in return.

after jang boram has bid her goodbye, all of them are give contracts to which they've been told to read through and to hand in whenever they are ready. doyeon runs through it and finds the clauses of the debut plans with rough timeline written, more information on the spain trip and of course, now with stricter rules that mentions along the lines of limitations in dating, aesthetic procedures and going out. "a bummer," doyeon mumbles to himself, thinking of having to resign herself in her dorm if not practicing now that she would not be able to sneak out.

the raven-haired trainee signs the contract, sealing away her drummer spirit. if this is the price, she's willing to pay. handing the contract back to park jisun, doyeon addresses her concerns on the passport and visa required to which the team manager informs she will work on it and advises her to not worry about.

with a smile and a bow, doyeon bids the team manager good bye alongside her future and possible teammates before heading to the sign up for a dance studio where she could release her high energy and tension towards since she could not go out. perhaps this had been for the better good. now that there aren't that many distractions, she could work hard on improving herself and gearing up for the debut.

if there is one thing that doyeon looks forward to on a weekday, it's definitely the english class that hydra has assigned for her to take. look, she may be good in geometry, additional mathematics, history and all that jazz, but since her family were all born and stayed in south korea for their entire life, she does not have anyone in particular to utilize her english studies on. pen-pals and internet friend were totally out of the question as she is skeptical over being online much less do not use any social media even before becoming a trainee.

but the point is, when doyeon reaches her shared class with other hydra trainee, she sees her favorite boy and the seat empty next to him. perhaps the other trainees usually come in later, but doyeon would race against them to sit against minseon whom she had known some classes back. there's just this vibe to the wonder nation trainee that doyeon had liked. the one meme she knew that went along the lines of "if anything happened to him, i will kill everyone then myself" and she strongly feels like that would apply for minseon in her case of infatuation.

the thing is, doyeon isn't sure if she quite like minseon the way people would think. but his reactions to her weak attempted on using english pick up she definitely did not google before class, makes it fun to be around him. he also happened to be one of the few people whom had not mind doyeon's flirtatious antics.

"hey sleepyhead" the raven haired greets her deskmate. "you must be tired since you've been running through my mind the entire day" she throws out an english pick up line with a grin, anticipating minseon's reaction.

aerin, for a significant part of her life, knew she was a hopeless romantic. perhaps it came from her struggles to make friends, or the fact she was often too busy to toy with the possibility of a relationship. though... it was likely because she wasn't into boys at all.

it was something she'd mostly kept locked behind closed doors-- she not only didn't have time for the issues it would bring, but she was also just ... nervous. she'd never flirted a day in her life, let alone with another woman. she was truly hopeless.

which is why she found herself blushing a bright red and stumbling over her words whenever she ran into doyeon. not only was she pretty and talented, she also had a level of confidence that aerin could only aspire to. a part of aerin knew it wasn't serious-- maybe she was being made fun of, or teased-- but she still felt her heart flutter at the cheesy pickup line.

"ah, seriously, doyeon-unnie. you can't say things like that... someone might think you're being serious," aerin whined, attempting to laugh it off and ignore the pounding in her heart. gosh, she was such a child. getting to worked up over this. "you're ridiculous, really."

anyone could see from the way that aerin's lips curved up into a smile and how she avoided eye contact, that the comment excited her more than her words let on.

it isn’t like that there is an unsettling feeling that doyeon is felling but rather with the air that jihye carries herself in, it’s almost unkind. perhaps the latter had been more attune that giving in a big reaction would not serve any good that anything; or perhaps it had been the way she’s been raised amongst her family of successful women. doyeon remembers how there had been a period in her life where she had not reacted much, especially when the people around her brother, and by extension doyeon herself had kept comparing them. the more doyeon reacts, the more the crowd seem to poke fun over her insecurities.

“please do lead the way then” doyeon smiles, making a hand gesture for the trainee to lead her to their mutual destination.

doyeon follows the older trainee while looking around and making mental notes of the surrounding so that she could navigate herself in the future without getting lost. part of her however, did want to make small conversations with jihye but is unsure if she would be interested, or would find it to be something as pointless. there is no denying that there is a sort of intimidation that doyeon feels towards jihye, and feels that should either of them say something wrong, doyeon herself would get heated in the conversation.

regardless so, the journey seem long despite being in the same building so doyeon settles for the next best thing.

“so how long have you trained here?”

Jihye nodded before starting to walk in the direction of the cafe. She was prepared for a silent walk, just a little good deed for the day showing a newbie towards their shared destination, but alas, the other insisted on holding a conversation. In an attempt to be polite, she held back her instinct to sigh or roll her eyes. Jihye was (hopefully) about to debut soon, so she needed to make friends to improve her reputation. Or, more accurately, Jihye needed to just avoid making enemies; that was an accomplishment on it’s own.

“Over two years,” she admitted, picking up her phone to skip the songs on her playlist until the right one came on. She was going to stop there, but once again, maybe trying a little harder in her social situations might behoove her and get her closer to her debuting goal. So, she put her phone back into her pocket and looked at the other trainee. “Is today your first day?”

for someone who is an introvert, doyeon can be chatty at times that sometimes comes off unwarranted. she knows not everyone enjoys any conversation but who knows, perhaps jihye would be her potential debut colleague for whatever universe would align - or well, in reality if ever hydra has plans for it. the raven haired isn't sure if she would ever make friends with any of her fellow trainees or possible debut mates, but it doesn't hurt to try so the very least, they don't be enemies and eventually live their contractual life in misery. call her a pessimist if you will. can you blame her if she has been reading about all the internal conflicts and bullying that happens within the team?

"that's long," she remarks simply over the comment made on jihye's trainee years. she skips in her step, something she does out of habit and sometimes even her own family member finds it annoying to keep up with her pace. "i've only been here a couple days over but it's definitely my first day loitering around." she remarks. for most truth, she's been housing herself in the dance studio, working on her dance movements. she's not main dancer material, but perhaps if she had worked hard, it would improve little by little.

"so why did you pick hydra..?" doyeon ask curiously; a part of her wonders if jihye had wanted to follow her sister's footstep since tag was within the hydra label while the other part of her knows jihye had probably wanted to be better.
