legitimately feel super pissed rn over what they did with iwtv...
this isnt gonna be super eloquent or funny or whatever but i really need to vent somewhere. waiting 2+ years for a promised feast of a show only to get mud and shit stuck in your gums by the end of the season is truly the humiliation ritual of the decade. im just. genuinely. so baffled at the writing decisions throughout every episode. and it's just so obvious that black writers held this show together all this time
because how else do you end up with such an incredible cast and decide to do bigotry olympics with every single character on the show?
this pivot to book purists and racist source material fans was already alarming with how the trial was approached and executed in s2 but now the writing is so egregiously anti everything that made both s1 and 2 great it makes the viewing of each episode feel like a course of self waterboarding for dummies.
like. all this torture of your viewers and characters of color.... and for what? to make lestat look more sympathetic in comparison? bro-ther..........
lestat's trauma and problems not only feel comically stupid this time around because of the way his abusers are presented to the audience, the entire 'let me finally self reflect for a moment that lasts longer than a minute' thing in ep7 is some of the weakest writing when it comes to lestats's character to date.
idk if i can speak on armand's speech in ep 7 considering how undeserved writing wise the whole thing was but i have to mention the victim blaming of louis throughout it all and the season itself in particular. just. man. what a fucking travesty. so much blatant hatred for a character that you ppl adapted and again for. what????????? what genuinely was the reason for all the suffering? to make us feel bad? i think we got the message with s1-2 already. to humble the character himself? why? because of the actions of another character (daniel publishing the book)???? or bc the series needs another scapegoat since armand alone isnt enough at this point? what are you ppl trying to say here???????
i am just so appalled at the fact that this season was even allowed to happen and air in the first place. so much raw talent misplaced and not even thought of... man.
which brings me to the way they wrote and utilized armand's character in this season.
and to a moment of silence for the murder of one of the most compelling complex and truly fascinating characters of this show. been looking forward to the insanity of ep 7 ever since assad said it was his favorite. and knowing how he wanted to portray armand this season from the outset, i was hoping for the best (or at least not the worst). well. kudos to assad, jacob and delainey's acting chops as always. bc it's just unbearable to watch otherwise.
the craziest thing is despite the writers room loving using armand as a convenient plot device, season 3 made it so i couldnt even enjoy him torturing ppl in the last episode which is what i was waiting for the longest.
it's dire af out here............ bleak and depressing and not for a good reason like idk i wouldve really liked some resonating plotlines and character moments and their development or regression or whatever at this point. but with how much happens offscreen and this season feeling like a to do list more than anything it truly and honestly couldve been an email or a footnote under the trivia section on imdb. what a joke
