Recently saw a post going around stating that the Kingsguard weren’t trying to actively *stop* Eddard Stark from seeing his beloved sister Lyanna in her final moments, rather they were trying to do their *duty* in protecting their infant King…
And like that’s really it isn’t it?
Just like the Kingsguard didn’t actively try to support sexual assault and yet they did their *duty* by their King in standing by while their Queen was brutally r*ped and beaten.
Disregard the dying girl from seeing her brother moments before her death, disregard the brutalized Queen, disregard, disregard, disregard.
Do it for duty.
It really sums up Jaime’s internal turmoil so well.
So many vows . . . they make you swear and swear. Defend the king. Obey the king. Keep his secrets. Do his bidding. Your life for his. But obey your father. Love your sister. Protect the innocent. Defend the weak. Respect the gods. Obey the laws. It's too much. No matter what you do, you're forsaking one vow or the other."
