Just Watch!
My first Art piece of the school year. Recommend watching it on the Vimeo site with HD turned on.
Damien Hirst
My final project, make sure you have the audio on when you watch it. It really adds to the animation :)
Just rendered out the second part of my final project. It is so much cooler than I expected !
My dear laptop took 3 hours to render this little clip :(
More will come :)
Adjusting the angle of the light source

Final project & Ads design
I was asked to design a poster( advertisement) for the BBC club. Due to my incompetence in using indesign or illustrator, I decided to use blender to generate image. I found a blender file about a group of floating island from Pigart. The tutorial can be found here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ckgLop3vceg, I deleted the tiny water falls on each island because they kind of look like weird blue strips.
The preview of the original floating island looked like this:
I also found another low poly tree file on blenderswap thanks to ogbog. His/her file can be downloaded here http://www.blendswap.com/blends/view/73242
The original render looked like this :
After I have put the two things together and modified one of the islands, it looked like this
I really liked the darkened corners of this render. It seems like the author of the first blender added some filter effects or changed the camera’s focal length ( I am just guessing here). That is what I love about using and combining other people’s blender file, you never know what exactly you will find inside.
Then I put this picture into photoshop and used the cutout filter. After adding the background and a little jumping human figure ( which was borrowed from Spectre154 on deviant art, you can see the original picture here : http://spectre154.deviantart.com/art/Floating-Island-Wallpaper-175190286)
The final thing looked like this:
Special thank you to Eddy who helped me picking the font. In another word, don’t blame me if the fonts look weird :)
This little poster project is relevant because I will be using the same floating island file in my final blender project.
I haven’t figure out the specifics yet, but I will try to cooperate the lighting effect to the islands, Just like the picture below.
The tutorial can be found here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UIwwuB0qGBo
FaceRig is a program enabling anyone with a webcam to digitally embody any character they want. For now we're focusing on just the portrait, but we aim to do more in the future. The video next to this paragraph will explain it better than tons of text (or just watch the images below if bandwidth is an issue).
I accidentally found this awesome software when I was watching random videos on the internet a long time ago. Because this thing only works on windows, I didn’t have a chance to play with it back then. Recently, I finally remembered that I have this thing called VMware Fusion that acts like a simulator that simulates windows system on Apple computers. I end up paying 10 dollars for this software on STEAM( a website for game download etc.)
Just like the website said, Facerig allows a 3d character to copy your facial expression ( it tracks your pupil too !) and head movement.
What a process… first two things: 1) Justin made a great comment about how using Blender is a lot like problem solving in coding… so true, the whole process was debugging until it did exactly what I intended 2) My art history professor Matt Reynolds made the best comment yesterday in class, “the...

I believe this tutorial would solve your problem. It talked about how to create masks for the little pieces of paper on the ground so that they would not be visible in the final render. Also, it talked about how to adjust tracking points ( not just delete and then try another one)so that the final camera solve value would be smaller. Personally, I haven’t really tried this two methods because my camera was’t really moving and my video just happened to have little tiny rock pieces I can track.
Good luck!
Still experimenting with the explosion effects and soft body stuff.
The exploding rocks can be found in this following tutorial:

This video was made using Blender’s camera tracking. The cowboy figure can be found in Sebastian Lague’s youtube tutorial series :Blender Character Creation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DiIoWrOlIRw.
A small experiment I did with the Camera tracking feature in blender. I tried to add the purple fire I made before, but only the smoke would show up. No fire can be seen what so ever :(
