Fire Emblem Fates Outfit Swapping Tutorial
Alright, the clothes tutorial! Ok, so, before we begin, there are a few things I must say about swapping models and textures.
This tutorial is recommended primarily for NTR CFW users.
If you want to change a unit’s clothes with this method,it is highly recommended you use this tutorial while having NTR CFW.
Swapping characters’ clothes involves a lot of trial and error many times, the files won’t always match up and you’ll have to experiment with what works and what doesn’t and you will make mistakes. Fixing mistakes with NTR CFW might be much easier than with HANS
I don’t have much HANS experience but you’ll probably have to be extracting and repacking your game’s ROM a lot if you make mistakes with HANS so I don’t really recommend this tutorial for HANS users. You may of course follow it even with HANS if you wish but it might get kinda tedious to have to rebuild your ROM all the time.
It’s also assuming you have the Gay Fates Hack installed.
This is actually because we’ll be using the Gay Hack plugin and folders to make this work.
If you don’t have the NTR CFW Gay Fates Hack, you’ll need to either create a plugin yourself for the character model and textures folder (and this tutorial does not cover how to make plugins) or you’ll have to go the HANS route and will probably have to rebuild your decrypted and extracted ROM whenever you want to edit the game’s /bu folder.
Swapping models WILL give you in-game lag.
Do keep in mind that, with this method, you will experience a few seconds of lag every time at the game’s startup, when entering buildings in your castle, switching classes and when starting battle animations. The lag can vary from 5 to 10 seconds (or sometimes slightly more).
It doesn’t bother me too much personally but if you are the type of person who cannot stand lag and want your game running as fluidly as possible, it’s totally understandably but if that’s the case, I do not recommend this tutorial.
You might experience less lag if you rebuild your game and edited /bu folder into a CIA but I haven’t tried this at all, so you’d have to find out for yourself.
You might also be lagless if you directly edit units’ Asset IDs but that’s something currently beyond my expertise so I haven’t tried it yet. If you feel confident you can change clothes via Asset IDs, feel free to try that instead!
Online users won’t be able to see your custom outfits unless they have the same files as you edited.
Only you will be able to see your edits. I don’t know if this changes if you edit a character’s Asset ID but I kinda doubt it.
You need Ohana3DS to view the files we’ll edit.
So go download it if you don’t have it. I recommend Ohana3DSRebirth for this tutorial.
