What the world building and conflict could be in dragon king:
We know that it will be about another dragon claiming the Titel of King. But that canât be the only conflict since there has to be a reason why the people would even consider another king. If they were content and happy with zim why would they accept anotherâs attempt at the throne? Or what will this other kings reason be for wanting the throne and what does he want to change and why. I have a theory about what this conflict could be about.
itâs about human-elven relationships and dark magic again. Why ? Because the reason for the first conflict 1000 years ago was never probably Adressed.
We learned that humans had been able to cast magic but still felt the need to perform dark magic. That they were then banished to the other half of the continent, which was as prosperous as the elven half before they ruined it themselves and that the elven fear of humans was justified while the human fear was just loathing. The dragon and elves are even friendly with humans from the beginning, seen with the dragons who accepted the gang without trouble and later with the sun elves who forgive the humans after their territory was destroyed. The only bad elves were dealt with and humans finally progressed into good people.
This retcon in the later seasons sucked and took away from the main conflict from season 1 to 3. so while I will not change those facts, I will give the people a reason why the felt a need for dark magic. By showing how the conflict started back then by repeating the same thing now. Afterall, everkind is the first human-elven city in 1000 years, showing us what it was like for humans back then.
The city we see is trying to treat both parties equally. But fails because the natural magic of the elves. Humans want to hunt? The moon shadow elves already built a group and wonât allow people to join who canât keep up. Humans want to work with fire, heat or metal? They only get the job as long as no sun fire elv is around, since they would be preferred. The humans go fishing? The sea elves will always have a bigger catch than they have. In short, the humans are second rate citizens because they lack the talent of the elves. Even if a few learned prime magic it will not make up for the blatant imbalance of power. Not every human can perform magic, it requires time to access it and you need an elven teacher willing to teach you. This leads to some elves seeing the humans as lesser and the humans getting jealous of the elves.
At this point I can see Claudia stepping in and doing the same thing as aaravos had done. Teaching a few dark magic tricks to the humans to tip the scales. For example hex bait so that the fisherman will get the same about of fish as the elves. This starts the conflict that the humans want to use some amount of dark magic to equalize their chances and elves hating the thought of dark magic and wanting to banish it.
This whole thing is a call back and explanation of what happened back then and a chance to chose the right path this time.
Ezran will find the solution to this problem at the end of the series, which is that they open up magic schools where everybody gets the chance to learn magic.
Until then Claudia will try to come up with a solution, which is her main arc this time. She already learned that elves and humans can live together, she canât bring back her dad and aaravos is no longer out for revenge. So she needs a new reason why she does things. She sees that history repeats itself and wants to make sure that this time it will not be the humans who get banished from their homes and cityâs, but the elves. This is why she has the next candidate of the dragon king at her side. We can also see more dark mages around as Claudia trains them to help her cause. Even some elves like the pirates could come back and join up with her, since they want to learn dark magic as well.
Forming two sides. The one of zim where only prime magic is allowed and dark magic gets banned. And the side of Claudia where dark magic is allowed as equalizer. In the end Ezran will find a way to make both sides come together. But for now this will be the conflict of the next seasons.
What do you guys thing? Does this make sense or would another conflict be more reasonable? It canât simply be one claim to the throne and I donât want to see another âeveryone in the world against aaravos and Claudia, who just want vengeanceâ trope. This was so disappointing in season 7.
