Dragon Boats

Pictures from the event on Monday! Photo credits to another ETA, Aria; she takes really pretty photos, and I had forgotten to bring my camera this day. Dragon boats traditionally have 20 rowers, someone steering in the back, and a drummer in the front (the drummer faces towards the back of the boat, leaning against the dragon head, and beats the rhythm of the rowing). My principal actually drummed for us :) And someone who knew what they were doing steered (I think it was a volunteer from the event). It was really fun! I don’t think we would have made a very good racing team, but still a good time.

Rice dumpling (‘zong zi’ in mandarin) is an intricate combination of amazing flavors, craftsmanship and tradition. Traditionally made and eaten during the Dragon Boat Festival, it is a made using glutinous rice, pork, mushrooms, dried shrimp, salted egg and wrapped with bamboo leaves!
