A couple of moments had passed before she heard the familiar, excited voice of her partner, her head whipping around to face the direction itâd come from as her hand raised to wave back of him. The annoyance sheâd felt seconds before seemed to have dissipate as he closed the space between them, but whether or not she was upset with herself for forgiving him so easily would remain unknown to her.Â
His question had thrown her off slightly, seeing as it wasnât the first thing sheâd expect him to say to her upon seeing her. âGood morning,â she replied, her cheeks flushing slightly. âA-And yeah, it did⊠Thank you, Natsu.â She watched intently as he lifted a hand to presumably grab hold of the scarf, but as his hand made contact with her neck, her eyes widened, incredulously. Quickly, too quickly perhaps, he pulled back and changed course again, and before she could even react, her body was already being dragged onto the train.
The train ride was uneventful and calm, something sheâd never really experienced, especially with Natsu as her partner. The lack of motion sickness from him intrigued her, but she didnât question it. Maybe heâd learned to control itâwith the help of Wendyâs magicâtherefore ridding the usual cause for action between the two of them. It was nice to not worry over him, but stillâŠ
Natsu interrupted her thoughts with his unexpected question, leaving Lucy blinking dumbly at him as she tried to register his words. âYeah,â she replied. âYeah, Mama taught me my magic and everything I know about celestial spirits.â Lucy couldnât help but smile at his enthusiasm, especially since it was directed towards one of her most loved ones.
âSheâd give you a run for your money,â she gloated. âMama was and incredible celestial spirit mage, way better than me or anyone for that matter. At least, thatâs what I thought.â As he mentioned looking like Igneel when he grew older, Lucyâs smile faltered and turned to a scowl. She knew he was just throwing around harmless ideas, probably sprouting from the uncanny physical similarities between Lucy and her mother (they were practically twins), but it bothered her. Natsu? An actual dragon?
âI want you to meet him someday you know! heâd like you Lucy!â
Lucy blushed deeply at this, biting at her lip as embarrassment consumed her. Meeting Igneel would be meeting his father, and usually when someone introduced someone to their parents it impliedâŠ
âI-Iâd hope so,â she started, smiling sheepishly at him, trying her best to rid her cheeks of their red tint. âAnd Iâm sure Mama would like you too if she met you, Natsu.â
"When I'm with you I always feel better," Natsu muttered thinking abut how nice it felt to just be the two of them on the train and how he couldn't think of his motion sickness at all.
"I saw that picture in your room she sure was pretty, looked a lot like ya," he grinned feeling a tad excited at his indirect compliment. The comment about her strenght made him feel a little bit dissapointed that he wouldn't get to meet the famous Layla. It would have been fun to challlenge her...Natsu's eyes settled on Lucy and he swallowed hard, perhaps if she was like Lucy, even Erza would seem like a walk in the park. An older, stronger and just as stubborn Lucy, that was what he thought Layla would be although maybe a bit more calm and lady like? She seemed to at ease in her photograph almost as if she had everything she needed.
"I think your mum would be too big a hurdle for me to defeat right now," Natsu laughed as he decided he should stop comparing Lucy to the woman. They were family, it was bound for similarities to be found but Lucy was Lucy. And as long as her mama made her happy that was enough for Natsu to like her.
"My dad said he had a friend celestial mage once, he told me a story about when they were young," Natsu confided, "He said she was brave, beautiful, strong but most of all kind to everyone, Igneel must have liked her a lot,"
Lucy sat there and smiled urging him to go on, he scratched his cheek slightly intimidated by his own boldness as he took her hand. He did not remember the address of their client being so far, or was it that time had stilled.
"You know what, after this job, let's go somewhere together," natsu blurted before he had understood what he was getting himself into, by that time it was too late as he stuttured the last few, "Just y-y-you and m-e-e?"
'Mira called ths asking her out, right? Oh I'm really fired up! Just like she said!' Natsu thought remembering the guidance of the barmaid.
