Having worked long hours today, I'm observing spooky season by watching The Tower of London 1939, and it is amazingly clunky, cheesy, melodramatic medievalism: history with a flavor of horror. The thing is, the flavor of horror is provided by:

Basil Rathbone as Richard III (Evil Edition)

Boris Karloff as Mord (the executioner, because of course he is; his name is just Death, because of course it is)

Vincent Price as the Duke of Clarence (hilariously whiny and effete, also Vincent PRICE)

Anyway. Mord told Richard that he (Mord) regarded him as a god and king, and then kissed his hand. I think they should have weird kinky sex about it. Richard is accurately represented as a good fighter, like his elder brother. The audience sees him Evilly Scheming, but without that context, it just seems as though everyone mistrusts him for no reason. Well, he's hotter and smarter than everyone else.
