(((I'm going to try to keep this short and sweet, but as time goes things will be added.

My blog is family friendly, please keep content PG! No language is preferred, but any strong language will not be answered, and only deleted.

I will do limited threads, just mainly focusing on asks/anons. Things are limited because I work a full time job, and I am married and have some additional responsibilities.

That being said, this blog is a selective blog.

I have 10+ years of RP experience. Open to magic anons and to anons! All magic anons are to be temporary to help preserve Hiccup as the character we know and love.

Any asks that do not follow the rules will be deleted. I will try to message you privately if I can, but if done on anon I will have to make a public post.

I only ship Hiccup with Astrid, and write him as straight. Please refrain from sending any asks hinting or stating that Hiccup has flirted/kissed any other characters.

HOWEVER, sometimes there is undeniable chemistry, in which case I may be open to shipping Hiccup with another female character.

Anon/RP asks may be reblogged, but if it's an RP thread that gets reblogged by me and the other writer, please only like so it can easily be kept track of. This is more of a request than an actual rule.

If you're an anon, and writing as a character from the movies or shows: if there are multiple different anons portraying the same character, it gets confusing fast. I may not respond if I already have another thread going with another anon for that character. Feel free to ask if you're not sure!

No godmodding, no grabbing or dragging Hiccup [without permission], and no controlling Hiccup or Toothless' actions.

No smut. Mun is 29 years old, I'm a Christian and I just like to keep things clean.

You do not have to match my length, however, if all of your replies are essentially one to three sentences, I also struggle with responding to those as well. I work a very mentally demanding job, so sometimes I can't fill in the blanks, unless the muse is particularly strong with our thread. It doesn't mean I won't answer at all, I just might need extra time.

If you're interested in bringing in more characters from the canon HTTYD universe, just discuss it with me first! I will extend the same courtesy to you if I'm interested in bringing in more characters from your muses universe. I once had someone do that, bringing in a few other httyd characters expecting me to write for them, and I wasn't prepared.

I have the right to decline any starters for threads or anons that come into my askbox.

It's nothing against your writing, sometimes I'll read one and Hiccup just goes: 😐😑🤐

Writing styles: For some reason, when someone writes with me and they're using first person pov (I, me) it's extremely off-putting. I've tried to continue despite that, but for some reason it just causes the Hiccup muse to shut down 🤷‍♀️ Third person works best, since rp is telling two different characters perspectives.

The only exception is if you're asking Hiccup a question, and it's not in conjunction with quotation marks for dialogue, I have zero issue with that.

I only add this because it's come up a few times: Hiccup is the type to ask questions when he thinks of them. If your character sits down and says "You must have some questions for me, ask away!" I tend to panic because everything we've ever written together immediately drops from my brain. I also use the app to write more than my computer, and it can be difficult to track down and reread our threads. Please try not to ask this of Hiccup unless it pertains to something that was revealed in your current response, I'd really appreciate it!

I do try to trim posts for rps, as they can get long fast! Unfortunately, since I mainly use the app, I can only do it by hiding previous reblogs sadly.

Brief list of storylines I will not write or take part in can be found here. This list will be updated if more come to mind or come up in conversation.

Do not be stressed to reply quickly, real life always comes first!

I will never pressure you to write a response. If you want to quietly drop the thread, that's ok! If you don't think our writing jives well, or have trouble responding, just let me know! I will completely understand.

A New Beginning - Closed starter @thethreefaes

Hiccup ran through the forest, vision blurry from the tears welling up in them.

His dad was leaving on another trip again, and Hiccup would be all alone... again.

"You'll have Gobber, lad," his father had said, sitting the boy on his knee.

"But I need you!" Hiccup had cried out, "You're always leaving, it isn't fair!"

And, being the wise Viking he was at six years old, he packed himself a little bag and took off into the forest, thinking that maybe if the trolls took him in, they wouldn't leave him.

Tripping over a rock, Hiccup tumbled into the forest floor with a cry of surprise. Dirt was smudged across his tunic, and a few stray leaves were stuck in his hair. Sniffling, he sat up, looking around.

...He was good and lost now.

Fear gripped at him. He had been angry before, but now? He didn't want to live with the trolls. He was scared, and he wanted safety.

Drawing his knees up to his chest, his bag sat beside him as the tears rolled down his cheeks.

A twig snapped, and he looked up in alarm. A girl about his age was there, with red hair similar to his own and green eyes. Sniffling, Hiccup wiped his face with the back of his hand, "You...you're not a troll, are you?"

"Hopeful might be a better term than foolish..." He mumbled thoughtfully.

Looking up at the Lyngbakr, Hiccup shook his head. "No, we're alright, just passing through, I think. Wha--?" He turned his head as he was suddenly pulled back. "Rose, he's not going to hurt us!"

He turned to face forward just in time to see the uisce disappear into the forest. "There it goes! We, we have to follow it. Come on!"

These water wisps would show them what they need, and clearly the Lyngbakr had a role in that. "Lyngbakr, if you'll excuse us...?"

When Hiccup agrees to take the little house with them, Melodía squeaks with excitement before kissing him. “Thank you, thank you, thank you!!”

His question about her biting the chest makes her tilt her head. “Hey, I’m just using my resources.” The mermaid nibbles the chest again for good measure before sticking her tongue out in distaste.

“Great, thank you! I can’t wait to see what’s inside…” she looks at the chest with curiosity, practically buzzing with anticipation.

The items her husband had chosen pique the princess’s interest immediately. Her golden eyes take in the sparkling gems that match them, as well as the brush with the beautiful carvings.

“Amazing…” she breathes softly. “You’re quite the treasure hunter, my love.”

After exploring some more ships and gathering a couple more trinkets, Melodía takes Hiccup to the last ship. This one was smaller than the others, but still quite ornate. Ironically enough, it had a pretty carving of a mermaid on its bow.

Holding his hand as she swims inside, she says, “This one is where I found the little statue of the dancing people.” 

The inside of the ship was cozy, for a wreck. While some algae, starfish, and other sea life had grown on the wood, there were also a few things scattered around.

There were a couple chairs, a table, and a waterlogged journal of some sort. A candelabra sat on a window sill, each candle holder having a different eating utensil in it.

Taking the fork, Melodía giggles softly before using it to brush her hair. “I forgot I left these here…”

She then swims over to a dilapidated canopy bed. Over it was a ruined painting, though it was clear that it used to be a couple posing in the frame.

Running her hand along the bedside table top, she says softly, “Right here. That’s where I found it.”

She then sits in the ruins of the bed, hugging her tail. “It’s nice to be back. This used to be my little hideout. I didn’t feel as alone here.” Looking at the painting, she continues. “It felt like they were here with me, in some weird way. Like they’re my friends. I’d talk to them all the time. Kinda silly, huh?”

He laughed, his own fangs on full display, "I can see that."

"I learned from the best."

By the time they entered the last ship, his satchel was just about full of items they'd found.

"That was here?" It certainly would fit the place. Hiccup could imagine how it must have looked before it sunk. This ship was different than the others, almost as though it had been someone's home and not their mode of transport.

His eye caught the candelabra. The assorted cutlery caused him to tilt his head in confusion. When Melodía took the fork, he nodded in understanding. Of course, she had been the one to put it there.

Swimming over, he sat on the other side of the bed. "Looks like it was something very important to whoever lived here."

He wondered if the painting had been in better shape when she was younger. "No, I don't think that's silly. You're talking to someone who used to go off hunting trolls when he was supposed to be fishing with his dad," he chuckled. "You found comfort here, and I can see why."

Hiccup's mouth clamped shut. Had she not heard a thing he'd said? Shaking it off, he decided to stay quiet.

Even he had to suppress a grin. Humming in semi-agreement, he nodded. "Right, there--there's definitely someone else out there, I'm sure of it." Part of him wondered how she'd react to find out he had a girlfriend now. It wasn't like he was actively keeping that a secret, there just hadn't been a good time to bring it up.

The uisce took off so quickly it took Hiccup a moment to kick his tail to follow. Now that he had a prosthetic fin, he was really able to feel how quickly he could cut through the water. This is amazing!

He nearly rammed into Rose as he exited the kelp forest, flailing his arms to disrupt the momentum he'd built. "What? What's wrong?"

It was then that he looked down. "Oh, I see..." It did look daunting. When he could see something below begin to move, his eyes rounded. "What's that?"

"He?"

Hiccup watched as the Lyngbakr rose in front of them, his fear becoming wonder. The corner of his lips tugged upwards, a smile on his face. "Wow! Look at you!" To him, this was basically a giant, underwater dragon.

"We don't hunt whales, so we'll be fine," he told Rose before swimming forward, his palm out. "You're quite magnificent. I bet those whales really appreciate having you as their protector, don't they?"

In a way, the Lyngbakr reminded him of his father. Intimidatingly large to the point of scary, but extremely protective of those under his care. "We didn't mean to disturb your rest." He explained apologetically. "We're kind of new here."

“Wow…” Melodía whispers in awe as she looks at how the little mechanism works.

“Can we keep it?” She asks him, smiling brightly.

Once she had finished studying the tiny house, she goes to the captain’s desk, rummaging through the drawers and cubbies. A couple more items catch her eye, such as a very colorful quill, as well as a golden telescope that collapses in on itself.

What piqued her interest the most, though, was a little chest that was way back on one of the shelves at the bottom. The princess takes it in her hands, looking it over curiously before attempting to pry in open with her claws. Surprisingly enough, it doesn’t work. 

She gnaws at it a bit with her fangs, to no avail, before huffing out some bubbles. “Weird… it won’t budge… tastes kinda funny too. Maybe it’s reinforced.”

Looking at Hiccup, she then gets a mischievous grin. “But I happen to be married to quite the locksmith. Think you could open it? If not, you could use some tools, once we get back.”

Giving the area one last scan, the mermaid asks, “Anything you wanna take with us?”

Looking the object over in his hands, he shrugged, "I don't see why not! If it still works underwater, maybe I can restore it when we get back..." And reverse engineer it, too.

Setting it to the side, Hiccup continued looking around for anything eye catching. Something unique for Melodía's collection...

Opening a chest, he saw inside what he assumed was likely silks at one point, but the water had deteriorated the fabric. Closing the lid, he moved on to another.

This one had what at first looked like treasure, but at a closer look, he could see it was a brush of some sort carved out of bone. There were intricate carvings on each side of sea life. Beside it, a hair decoration of some kind that looked like it could clasp onto the hair. The gems inside matched Melodía's eyes perfectly. He placed both inside the satchel on his shoulders before continuing.

"Tastes?" He looked up in surprise. "Melodía, did you actually try to bite that?" Chuckling, he inspected the box.

"Hm, I should be able to crack it open. If I can't, Gobber certainly can. Let's take it home."

Pulling the two items he'd found for her to see, he said, "I think the saltwater got the best of most of the items here, but these seemed to be in relatively good condition."

With nothing better to do between shows, Hiccup's explores every nook and cranny of his cage. There's not much to it, but it does make for some good opportunities to spy on his captors

In the Clutches of the Enemy

Getting dumped into a tank had been disorienting, but he had to take advantage of the time he had to observe his surroundings before the curtain lifted once again. Then he'd be forced to swim on display for the gawking onlookers.

He tried not to look at them anymore, as most were looking at him in disgust, fear, or horror.

The glass that kept the water he was in was thick, far thicker than he could break through. The bottom of his prison was lined with sand and some assorted plants. No rocks, nothing sharp that he could wield against Johann of his men. Gritting his teeth, the merman's gills flared as he continued to search the tank for any sort of weakness...only to find nothing.

"Look at that thing," a muffled voice echoed through the water from above the tank. "He's a big fish, that one!"

"He's no fish, Berthel! That creature right there is going to make us a fortune!"

"It will make me a fortune, Amos," Johann stared intently at the tank, watching as Hiccup swam below. "And I intend to get every gold piece that I can out of that monstrosity."

In the water, Hiccup stilled, his green eyes staring up at the bearded man. Monstrosity? His hand curled into a fist at his side. One way or another, he was going to get out of this.

No matter what.

"Greetings, Hiccup Haddock," began Edgar before bowing to the younger man in respect.

"I am the Duke of Weselton and my King has heard much about you and He has sent me to inquire about our nations becoming trade partners?" explained Edgar.

"Hey there," Hiccup bowed his head in return. "Weselton? You must be pretty far outside the archipelago. We did get a letter informing us of your arrival, I have a hut ready for you to stay in during your time here." Beside him, Toothless tilted his head inquisitively at the newcomer. "Ah, and this is Toothless. He's harmless, unless threatened, of course."

"Welcome to Berk! Here, let me help you with some of your things and I'll show you around. I assume you had a long trip?" Boat travel was so slow compared to dragon flight. "We can discuss things in the morning, so you can get settled in tonight. Tell me, are there dragons where you come from?"

"No, there have never been any dragons reported in my own country of Weselton," confirmed Edgar to Hiccup. "If anything my country's closest partner in trade Arendelle has Queen Elsa and she has ice magic. From what I've heard in Weselton's countryside, it's gnomes that have been spotted. And lastly I've been more inclined to believe those stories after witnessing magic myself with Queen Elsa. So yes, your dragon Toothless doesn't surprise me," explained the smaller man.

"Ice magic?" Hiccup's brows lifted in surprise. "I've never heard of anything like that. What was that like to witness?" How did it work? Hiccup wondered if she'd been born with it, or if she was gifted the magic by the gods.

"Well, then you shouldn't have any trouble adjusting during your stay! Some of our other visitors have a uh, a bit of a shock when it comes to our dragons."

The chief led the man up the docks and through the village. "This is Berk. And this," he gestured to a hut ahead, "is where you'll be staying while you're here. Would you like a full tour of the village now, or would you prefer to rest from your voyage first?"

The way the wisp glowed even more made Hiccup's smile widen. A flash of red passed him by and he looked up to see Rose chasing hers playfully. The teen let out a happy chuckle, glad to see his sister enjoying herself.

His eyes lifted to the selkie, a lopsided grin forming. "That's... really thoughtful, Ula. Thank you." Wow! Maybe in the past year she'd become more kind.

...and then that thought disappeared at her words about Rose. "Everyone has something that they fear. It doesn't make them any less of who they are, it just...shows we all have our weaknesses, I suppose."

"She's a pretty awesome fae, you know." He was very proud of Rose and the control she had over her abilities. "I was able to learn a lot from her when I got my own magic."

Blinking at her in surprise, he managed to recover quickly. "Uh, yeah. Looks like it just wasn't meant to be, I'm afraid," he said, playing along. "But, that's alright, yeah? I mean, you'll find someone out there that's much better suited for you than I could ever be."

Looking down at the wisp--uisce in his hands, he asked it, "Can you guide us?"

At his question about the Submaripper, she tilts her head. “Hmm… I’m not sure… maybe we can find out!”

When he gives the go ahead to pick a ship, Melodía grins with delight, taking his hand and pulling him along through the ship graveyard.

Going past all the smaller ships, she takes him straight to the biggest one, which was more towards the back. 

“This one!” The mermaid exclaims. “I always wanted to explore this one, but I was too scared to, when I was younger. C’mon!”

There was a hole in the side of it, so it was easy to enter straight through there. It was quite the extravagant ship. Many chests full of gold and other goods scattered the place, slightly dilapidated. 

It seemed they had entered the cabin, as there was a large desk at the end of the room, as well as a few paintings here and there. They had been corroded and damaged over time, but the vague shapes of people could be made out.

Melodía excitedly swam from chest to chest, exploring each one. Rummaging through them, she finds a chest of assorted valuables. The items seemed to be pretty random, and one could assume they were perhaps the spoils of a raid.

Something in particular stood out to her, though. It was what looked to be a tiny, wooden house. Except, it had a large circle on the front, with twelve symbols on the edges of the circle. In the center were two little metal prongs, one longer than the other, that faced outwards towards the symbols.

Fascinated by it, the mermaid brings it over to her husband. “Beautiful… have you ever seen anything like it?”

Carefully, she uses a claw to push one of the little prongs around the circle. As she does, a ticking sound is heard from inside the box. Her eyes widen with wonder as she continues, before she pushes the prong to face the top symbol.

As soon as she does this, the little door on the wooden house opens, a tiny wooden bird flying out of it attached to some sort of retractable mechanism. The bird lets out a garbled whistle as it pops out at them.

Startling, the princess lets go of the little house, swimming into Hiccup's arms in both fear and surprise with a yelp.

But once she realizes it’s safe, she grabs the floating object again before giggling in delight. She repeats what she did before, and the bird, having retreated, pops out again with another whistle.

“What kind of magic is this?!” She asks him, her eyes practically sparkling with joy.

The giant ship loomed, but if it had been there since Melodía was a kid, he reasoned that there shouldn't be anything to fear. Following her, he ducked inside and looked around curiously.

Hiccup began rooting through some chests, most of what he found were some books that were no longer readable and sodden maps with faded ink. What a shame that these were in the bottom of the sea...

Seeing Melodía brought something for him to see, he brushed off his hands before getting a closer look. "Hmm...it almost reminds me of a sundial, but...these rods move. I doubt that could accurately tell time..." The shape of it as well was akin to a very, very tiny house with a peaked roof.

"Interesting..." The ticking noise was extremely strange, and he leaned closer to see if he could find out exactly why it did that.

And, he immediately regretted it. A wooden bird promptly popped out of the device, causing Hiccup to fall back with a yelp of his own. His arms lifted to catch Melodía, who had certainly been spooked as well. He stared incredulously at the mechanism, his heart still hammering in his chest from the shock. "What the...?"

Hiccup stayed put, watching from a small distance while Melodía set it off again. Now that he was expecting it to happen, it didn't startle him quite as much.

Only once the bird retreated did he swim closer. "Not magic..." Using a claw, he pried open the back panel of the object. Metallic, ridged circles were interlocking with each other. Feeling for the rods on the front, he moved one experimentally, and saw the metal turn as well. "It's quite the device. I wonder how long it took them to build this..."

"Yes, but the wound was life threatening," Freya countered dryly, stopping herself from going any further on that comment. She shouldn't have said it in the first place.

"But you wouldn't have even gotten hurt if I had—" she cut herself off, using the excuse of Saphira startling them to end talking about that, too. He would keep saying it wasn't her fault, and she'd keep insisting it was. That would bring them nowhere.

Saphira flicked some sand at Toothless in response, crouching to prepare herself to jump at him.

The Chieftess subtly furrowed her brows once she noticed him approaching her. She crossed her arms, granting herself a sense of protection. 'Don't do it. Don't—'

He started talking about it.

She instinctively wanted to deny that she'd been avoiding him, but she knew that's exactly what she was doing. She hated that look in his eyes. Hated that she felt remorse tugging at her heart for her actions.

The struggle to contain herself intensified, and her hands gripped the side of her arms until the storm inside of her became too strong. The dam inside of her broke, and she was left with no control over it again.

Freya raised her chin, not knowing how she was still able to meet his gaze. "No, you don't get to do that. You don't get to do any of this," she gestured at him, not having the right words in that moment. "You," she pointed her finger right at him, letting it poke his chest. "Don't get to save my stupid life and make me think you were on the verge of dying, and then tell me...you—"

She threw her arms up, trying to grasp all the correct things to say, but her Bjornson formalities were overthrown by her magnified emotions. She ran a hand through her dark hair, making it a little disheveled. "For the love of Thor, Hiccup, you weren't supposed to be my friend. Not like this. We were just supposed to be two Chiefs looking out for our tribes. You weren't supposed to make me—"

She paused, staring at him and aimlessly kicking a bit of sand. "No, no, no. This," she gestured between the both of them. "Can't happen. It will not. And I won't say it. I won't!" She pointed at him again. "I won't say what it is because it can't happen."

She half glared at him, but it was severely weakened the longer she watched him. "I can't let myself feel anything like that. Don't you get it? I, I can't do that. Not when my dad," her voice cracked, and she quickly looked at the ground, willing herself not to cry. "My dad left me the tribe. I...can't...focus on anything else."

Freya's eyes locked on his again after a beat of silence, studying the shade of green they were as if she hadn't already memorized it. "This isn't fair, what you're doing. You could've just forgotten it ever happened and moved on," she whispered, knowing that was her way of handling it. "But you're not like that. Gods, you're so much better than I am!"

She brushed her hand through her hair again as a meager distraction. "You are...a lot of things, Hiccup Haddock. You're everything I should be. You're kind, stupidly funny, an idiot, but smart, and, and I shouldn't have—"

She gave up, lowering her head as she sighed. "I can't believe you had the nerve to make me feel like this."

Saphira roared happily as she pounced on Toothless, rolling in the sand without a care in the world.

Averting his gaze, he brought a hand to the back of his head. "Uh...true, yeah..."

When she finally began to speak, it was with such emotion that it caused him to go still. There was so much that she said without saying it, and it only caused his heart to sink lower.

"You act like you haven't saved my life too," she had, at least twice. "I know the pressures of having a legacy to live up to. I do! But you know what else I know? That our dads would want us to be able to find someone that makes us happy. I can't just, just forget what happened! And I don't understand how you could think doing that is a valid answer to what's happening here."

Everything...she should be?

His posture relaxed, his head tilting ever so slightly as he began to see her in a new light. Does she really not see how smart and capable she is? Had the nerve to make her feel...what? What is she not telling me?

"Freya," Slowly, he took a step forward. Then another. The hope that had disappeared minutes prior was returning, yet still hesitant. "Whatever it is that you're mad at me for making you feel, you have to know that I wouldn't want to, to get in the way of you looking after your tribe. You know that, right?"

Again, he stepped closer, holding her gaze. "Let me set one thing straight, Freya Leif. You are clearly refusing to see in yourself what I see in you."

They were standing closely now, and his green eyes were soft as he looked into hers. His tone dropped to just above a whisper, his brows helping to emphasize the words he began to speak. "You're smarter than you believe, stronger than I could ever be, and have such a love for your family and your people...yet you hide it beneath that invisible armor of yours."

He loved her, he'd known it for a while now. All he could really do was hope that she'd allow him to show it.
