    “Aha, yeah. I guess so?” She replied, uncertainty creeping into her tone. She was becoming less certain that Jamie was the one to talk regarding her growing concerns. Sophia was a main character; she’s figured out that much. How exactly she was supposed to bring that character to life when she couldn’t even read the script, however, she wasn’t sure.

              “I guess. H-how important is the script, ‘nd stuff? Like, do I have to memorize all the lines just right, or…?” What the alternative might be, sure wasn’t sure. Maybe she’d just ask someone else to read it to her until she got the hang of it. That… might work. Maybe.

              ❝ Well,  yeah the script is important. It’s your guide to the play  &&. keeps you in sync with the other actors.  Someone might get a bit confused if you suddenly go off course, you see. Improvising or changing a few minor lines is fine if you feel it would fit the character better, but I hope you don’t plan on changing anything big or just ignoring the script.  By chance, is there something you didn’t really like in Thespis ?  We could always try  &&. work it out,  do some rewrites, if a part of the script isn’t reading right to you. ❞

                      Her questioning threw him a bit off guard  &&. certainly made him a little more than nervous. The play would be nothing without the actors, and he couldn’t afford losing anyone over something that could potentially be fixed. He had to set things straight !

「𝒯𝐻𝐸 𝓅𝒽𝒾𝓁𝒾𝓅 𝒿 𝒻𝓇𝓎.」

“Uh, yeah! That’s me alright!” A lighthearted laugh tagged onto the end of his sentence as he faced the stranger, rubbing awkwardly at the back of his neck, then at his nose. He wasn’t entirely aware that his fantastical short-lived career had such adoring fans, but the more you know! 

“You’re into preforming arts too?” Part of him wanted to think this guy was a part of that cute little theater he’d visited not too long ago, but with the world being so big he highly doubted it. Still, the possibility– Maybe I can get in touch with whoever runs the plays there!

     ❝  I  KNEW  it !!!  Oh wow, it really is you !!!  ❞   Jamie leaned forward a bit,  wringing his hands in an extra show of excitement.  Just the suspicion was enough to thrill him, but to have a confirmation was beyond anything he could ever dream.  Even in Kansas he had never met anyone so relatable  &&. formerly talented as Fry.  He was all set to rave even further about Fry’s career, in fact,  though the following question grabbed his attention more.

      ❝  Indeed I am !!!  I’m not that much into opera  ---   I don’t have any particular talent for music, really  ---   but I am a thespian !!!  Acting is all  I want in life.  I even run the local theatre here, ever since I directed  &&. starred in a very well-reviewed play.  It’s the Beach City Community Theater, if you’ve heard of it !!!  ❞

「𝓎𝑒𝓉 𝒶𝓃𝑜𝓉𝒽𝑒𝓇 𝓇𝑒𝒿𝑒𝒸𝓉𝒾𝑜𝓃.」

                                                            “Technically, I wasn’t here for the theater,” Robin doesn’t know if he’ll be offended or flattered by this. The boy was given enough weird stares from other people but everyone was watching him. “I can’t believe I’m saying this but this is ridiculous.”

“What do you expect me to do here?” He said with sarcasm. “Do a segment of Batman and Robin?” If anyone can see him right now, they’d laugh.

                               ❝ Ah . . .  oh.  That’s a bit . . .  disappointing,  but I understand. ❞  Jamie’s enthusiasm fell immediately, having been harshly deflated by the realization of their misunderstanding. It figured that someone who seemed so devoted would also be there for something else entirely. He did his best to blink back a few tears.

                                          Well, he couldn’t deny that that last line bit into him even deeper. It dissipated any remaining hope he had possessed.  ❝ I---  Yeah, you have a point, aha. I was just thinking . . .  since it has a cape  &&. all.  N-nevermind. ❞

“Of course Jamie! I’d be more than happy to help! You can’t really blame me for having such a passion for history. I got to see it unfold with my very own eyes! Seeing a human fly for the first time, listening to musicians such as mozart and beethoven. It was simply amazing! What plot line were you thinking of going with for your sequel?”

       ❝ You will ?!  That’s great !!  The theatre really could use a fascinating consultant such as yourself !  I mean, when you put history that way, it does sound exciting !!  The stage can always recreate the most exciting of times, but there must’ve been nothing like actually living it. Anyway, since we do have recreations available, I was hoping to do a play on Buddy’s life after finding Beach City. He has a library named after him  &&. all so he must have been one amazing guy. Would you happen to know what his life was like during those later years ? ❞

     She rubbed the back of her head, giving Jamie a crooked smile. “Um… y-yeah. ‘Bout that. I, uh… I kinda needed some help with… what I’m supposed t’do. Er, t’be my character and everything. I’ve never really done stuff like this before.”

              She didn’t add that she wasn’t 100% sure what the play was even about, or the fact that she hadn’t actually read the cast list. Or anything else, given that she couldn’t properly read.

               ❝ Oh,  well,  no worries Dani !!  Is there anything specific you need help with ?  I know acting in general can be kinda scary if you’ve never done it before.  &&. now you’re being asked to round out a character you’ve never even met.  But doesn’t that make it even more exciting? You can take liberties with Sophia  &&. really make her your own ! ❞

                      Needless to say, Jamie was completely ignorant to Dani’s predicament. By that age, he naturally assumed everyone could read. No, he never figured that as an issue. But he was perfectly happy to slip into the drama zone for his acting speech !

“Yeah, that’s me.” Kimiko nodded then took a look at the equipment to their right respectively. “Most of it’s kinda old, right, but it’s not unusable. Just need some repairs. I’ve got some tools in my apartment I could bring to rehearsal to fix the stage equipment. When’s the premiere? I’d like to try and start working now so I can have it ready about a week before opening night. if not two weeks. The performers should be familiar with the sound and lighting around then, right?”

   ❝ Great !  &&. that is. . .  a relief to hear, honestly. ❞  Jamie threw a side glance at the equipment, mustering up more positivity over the matter.  ❝ I mean, I’ve worked with my own equipment at lot, but it’s meant for way smaller sets. I’m not sure how much use I could be for all this stuff. But it sounds like you can get it under control !  Opening night is in four weeks ;;  would that give you enough time ?  We might be able to improvise a bit if something fails, but if we can get most of the lighting  &&. sound working we should still manage an amazing show !  &&. yeah, that should give them enough time ! ❞

          ❝  Alright, Preston,  this is the start of a brand new play.  We have to get our game faces on !  Er, well,  drama faces.  Our crew is still pretty small, but I’m sure we’ll have plenty of time to get together the props  &&. backdrops.  But before we get started we should probably solidify this troupe more.  Have any good team-building ideas ?  ❞

This stuff is pretty old now &&. until we get more revenue I can’t budget for replacements for, well,  most of this stuff. ACT: QUESTION?

Oh dear.

That’s definitely a shame. Frisk can’t say that they necessarily know much about theater. Dancing, yes, but not acting. Acting’s an entirely different horse of another color but passion is recognizable anywhere in the world. If somebody truly does love something then they’re able to show off what they adore to the world so long as they work hard in doing so. 

“Um?” Frisk isn’t sure if he confused Frisk for somebody else or not.

A sympathetic hand reaches out to him as Frisk pats at the back of his hand in a comforting manner. 

Their staccato hum is just enough to pull him back to reality for a moment. Admittedly, he had been so distraught by the whole affair that he hadn’t really cared who it was that bore the brunt of his disappointment. But now that he glances to see the confusion he is met with, the realization hits him that just maybe this kid doesn’t know what he’s going on about. Passion was something he had in abundance, so much that perhaps he had taken it a bit too far.

❝ Oh !  Heh, woops. Sorry. You didn’t deserve all  THAT. I’m the new director of the community theater, that’s why I’ve been so upset. ❞   He pauses at their gesture  &&. offers a smile in return, appreciating the show of kindness. It was a lot better than what anyone else had offered him since he first took over.   ❝ Thank you. I really needed that. ❞

「𝒶 𝓅𝓇𝑜𝓂𝒾𝓈𝒾𝓃𝑔 𝓉𝒽𝑒𝓈𝓅𝒾𝒶𝓃.」

                                                                  head cocked to the side, the diamond’s eyes shone in amusement at the demonstration of his. still, her interested had been captured as well and silent notes were made. humans culture was odd, but intriguing — and this ACTING sounded like it’d be easy enough. on a dime, pink diamond’s posture straightened and she clasped her hands together near her chest. 

                                                                  “ah, i suppose i could give it a try!” a quick ‘ahem’ to clear her throat, “my stars! you are a positively curious specimen, aren’t you?” and an ever so dramatic pause before, “how WONDERFUL! ———— did i do it?”

                                     he held his breath from the very moment she readied herself to follow his lead.  it was exciting beyond word to teach someone about acting  &&. watch their first attempts at it.  &&. this wasn’t just any someone !  he was teaching a being completely removed from human culture about one of its finest features.  it was an honor, among other things, to even be listened to.  plus, from how quickly she caught on, he might well be teaching one of the most theatrically talented gems acting first !! 

                        when she was finished he grinned at her  &&. clapped enthusiastically, thoroughly in love with her performance.   ❝ are you sure you’ve never acted before ?  because you did it  PERFECTLY !  i could feel your love for the object of your affection in your voice  &&. word choice !!  &&. that pause before the last line was  AMAZING !!  you paused at just the right moment  &&. everything to have the greatest impact !!  so, now that you know you can do it,  what do you think ?  do you like acting ? ❞
