Plague or Cold?
I hate despise being sick. I've been sick since Tuesday and it just gets worse. I'm SO BORED, but too sick to feel up to doing anything. Common cold? More like the plague...gives me time to update my blogs, though...
theunmundane.blogspot.com - cause my life is never as simple as it's supposed to be
talesofepicfails.blogspot.com - cause i date jerks. enough said.
ohmygrandma.blogspot.com - cause my grandma is....different....
yeah...i'm THAT bored...
4 Products That Fail...And Why...
1. So far anything by Hard Candy (Walmart carries this brand) sucks. The only one I tolerate is the metallic eye shadow that is liquid and is more like a stain. The eye shadows (powder) don't stay on - even with a primer. The mascara (Curl Up and Dye) NEVER dries and the foundation couldn't cover anything (not a freckle, not a blemish, not a red mark, NOTHING). I didn't even waste money on the lip stuff.
2. Wet and Wild smart shade foundation (I don't remember the exact name, and I don't have the time to look it up. But it is comparable to Almay's smart shade liquid foundation - only Almay's is AWESOME). It comes out white, and you have to break the little beads that turn into your shade as your rub it in. Problem: it tries to dry as you're rubbing it in, and no matter how close it is to your shade, you always have a very visible makeup line on your face. Attractive...not.
3. Maybelline 14-Hr Stay Lipstick. It doesn't last. Not for 14 hours. Not for anything longer than 15-30 minutes.
4. Maybelline gel mascara (again, I don't remember the exact name...but it comes in a teal-like container and advertises that it stays, keeps lashes soft, and doesn't flake). Now, it does work GREAT if you want a waterproof, soft lashes feel. Problems? It takes approximately 8 coats to get a dramatic look that only requires 2-3 coats from Falsies or a similar mascara. It's also really hard to get off unless you're using eye makeup remover with a q-tip (then, when you blink, it tends to smudge, so you have to dab the excess and wait for the remover liquid to dry). But it does keep your lashes soft, and it does stay for a long time without flaking. I love it for those reasons, and hate the fact that it takes a super long time to apply (don't use it when you're running late for work!).
Totally Random, But.....
I started a new blog. It's [email protected]....

Review: Maybelline Volum' Express One-By-One Mascara
Maybelline Volum' Express One-By-One Waterproof Mascara
THE BASICS: This mascara claims to separate each lash while eliminating the clumps. It claims that because of the style of the brush, it will actually comb out the clumps, thus resulting in a look that is "bold without the bulk."*
THE EXPERIENCE: I can't tell you how many mascaras I've gone through looking for a mascara that doesn't clump up during application. Now, I did find one once that somewhat worked, and I kept the brush (more of a comb) to separate my lashes after applying the mascara of my choice. However, that routine tended to cause more issues than results, eventually I tossed the brush, and gave up on the dream of having clump-free lashes. Or so I thought...and then I saw it.
There it was, among the rows and rows of mascara, One-By-One hung up by itself, enticing me to examine it closer. Hmm...I pondered. Clump free...That's what they all claim. We'll just see about that... *Thump!* in the cart it went. Now, I don't know about you, but ever since I was a kid, the second I purchased a new product (whether it be cereal, nail polish, or a toy) I HAD to try it out the second I got home. This was no exception. I sat down, tore open the package carefully (ready to return it for over-promising and under-delivering), and began to apply.
After applying a few coats, I was in love. No clumps. Even better, it separated and actually helped curl my lashes upward WITHOUT CLUMPS! I even curled my lashes prior (usually when you do this, the lashes will stick together and when you apply mascara afterwards, it results in lashes being stuck together and kind of clumpy looking), there were no clumps! I looked like I has more, longer, and perfect lashes! Okay, okay...maybe not perfect...but pretty darn close! Now, no one will ever achieve the look the model has who acts as the spokesperson. However, my lashes were pretty darn close...or as close as I've ever been to achieving a promised look.
And....even better....the waterproof really IS waterproof (or at least tear-proof). I've cried many a times while wearing this mascara, and it may not have held up entirely, but it certainly didn't do the mascara river run as so many waterproof ones do. Oh, and I didn't end up with a mess - this is the first mascara I can confidently apply after my eye shadow without worry of black smears appearing at some point throughout the day!
WHY IT SUCCEEDED: The success is in the brush. Because of the little bristle-rubber-comb-like brush design, it coats and separates every lash while the formula keeps the mascara in place.
RATING: On a scale of 1-10 (10 being the ultimate makeup wonder), I give this one a 10. (Assuming of course your goal was for finding a clump-free mascara that provides a more natural than dramatic look...)

Review: Maybelline Volum' Express The Falsies Flared Mascara
Maybelline Volum' Express The Falsies Flared Mascara:
THE BASICS: This mascara claims to create a babydoll-like effect using only a few coats. They state the mascara provides "300% MORE VISIBLE LASHES. Winged out & over the top, instantly!" due to their "PRO-KERATIN FORMULA + SPOON CURLER BRUSH."*
THE EXPERIENCE: After unsuccessfully trying to create the same look they promised using countless other mascaras, I figured why not. So while shopping at my local grocery store, I decided to pick up Maybelline's The Falsies Flared mascara to see if the product could actually live up to the promises made by the company. I spent around $6 (maybe $7) for the product, and I'll admit, I was a bit shy after so many mascara flops. But curiousity won, so in the cart it went.
Alrighty, I thought. Let's see what you have to offer me. So, I unscrewed cap, pulled up the wand, and...oh..it has that spoon design...I wasn't quite sure how I felt about that feature (although I did have one mascara I used to LOVE and it too had a spoon like brush..then again, I've had some flops with that design, too..). So, I dipped, scraped, and applied. Now, allow me to add a slight disclosure...No one ever taught me how to apply makeup until I worked for a company in my early twenties. With that said, I still had no idea how to use a spoon-designed brush (I guessed on my first mascara with that design). I recently discovered I was using it incorrectly...ish.....But more on that later.
I applied a few coats and I have to say, I liked what I saw. The first thing I noticed was that I didn't seem to have a lot of issues with clumps. I continued applying a few more coats (one never seems enough), and took a close look in the mirror to examine the results. Although it did not provide the babydoll look as promised, it did provide a babydoll-like look...just a bit differently (less dramatically). Unlike most mascaras, I noticed it stayed on the lashes...not all over my eyelids as usual. I was impressed. I noticed my lashes looked fuller, longer, expanded, and overall pretty cool. I was actually getting some results I liked!
WHY IT SUCCEEDED: The success is in the brush. Remember when I said I didn't know how to properly use a mascara brush with a spoon-like design, but we would re-visit this later? Welcome to later. So, I'm embarrassed to admit that I didn't know which side to use of the brush. The part that dips in or the part that...well...doesn't? When using The Falsies Flared, I used the part that curved out for the first few coats before flipping the brush around to use the part that curves in. Because of this technique, I was able to build volume then separate the lashes when I flipped the brush around.
Now, with that said, let me just add this last bit of info: no matter which way you use the brush, you can achieve different results (not too dramatic, but enough to create attention). And, because of the formula, it doesn't create a lot of clumps.
RATING: On a scale of 1-10 (10 being the ultimate makeup wonder), I give this one a solid 7.

Review: L'Oreal Paris Telescopic Explosion Mascara
L'Oreal Paris Telescopic Explosion Mascara:
THE BASICS: This mascara promises to get every lash easily with the special ball-like brush design. The commercials promise a dramatic and full-looking effect as the brush supposedly separates each lash and coats it nicely in the color selected. Some people even claim it actually elongated their lashes.
THE EXPERIENCE: After hearing about this product, I decided to purchase it. I spent about $8.00 on this at my local drugstore, even though I was a bit hesitant (I try to refrain from spending over $7.00 on mascara). The commercial spoke about separating and covering every lash easily - something that I, with my small, almond shape eyes, tend to fall for....repeatedly. And so, with my hopes high and my wallet nearly empty, I scurried home to test this new amazing mascara.
Upon unscrewing the wand, I immediately discovered a flaw: the brush had too much mascara on it, and because of the design, removing excess mascara from the ball-like brush was next to impossible. After struggling with no avail for a minute (or two...or three...) I gave up and called it good. So, I thought. Minor issue. No big deal. I began to apply it to my lashes only to hate the results. EVERY lash was stuck and clumped to the lash next to it. I kept trying to separate the lashes only to make a bigger mess. Eventually, my eye looked like it had one giant, sticky lash. Okay, I'm obviously doing something wrong, here. I thought. I can't honestly be stupid enough not to know how to use a mascara brush. I'll start over on the other eye. So with a different technique, I tried again. I read the instructions on the packaging to ensure I was applying it correctly. This time, I decided to curl my eyelashes before hand (I typically skip this step since I don't like the way my lashes respond to curling) and NOT scrapping off the excess formula on the brush. Same thing. I ended up with one giant, sticky mess. Even after several days of using different techniques, nothing seemed to work. I always ended up with a giant mess.
WHY IT FAILED: The flaw was in the brush. Because of its unique design, perhaps the little rubber bristles are too thick and close to each other, thus hindering its ability to allow for great lash coverage/separation. Or perhaps its because there is almost no way to remove excess mascara from the brush, thus resulting in the mess. Either way, this mascara was one of the worst mascaras I have ever used.
RATING: On a scale of 1-10 (10 being the ultimate makeup wonder), I give this little guy a 2.
