he was in the passenger seat and i was driving. it was late at night, and we were in a quiet part of town. we hadn’t passed another car for five minutes.

i licked my lips. they were chapped, not dry and flaky, just a little dehydrated and very painful. and i know that when i lick my chapped lips it only makes them more dry, but i live for the 1 second where the moisture does relieve a little bit of the pain.

i forgot to put chap stick in the car though so i had to suffer.

unless…

i saw him put some on earlier, maybe he still had it?

we pulled up to a stop sign and i took the opportunity to ask.

“got any chapstick?” i looked over at him.

he picked his head up out of his hand and moved his eyes away from the window to look at me.

“what?” he asked.

“chapstick, do you have any?” i looked into the rear view mirror to make sure i wasn’t holding anybody up.

and when i tell you he moved lightning quick the second i took my eyes off of him.

all of a sudden his hand turned my face his way and his lips were on mine before i could even open my mouth to say something.

i grinned against his lips when i realized he had chapstick on. it was mango flavored. i also weaved my fingers into his hair instinctively.

he pulled away for a second to catch his breath then kissed me again.

barely seconds later, i heard a car horn blare behind us. we sprang apart and i pressed the gas as soon as i found my composure.

i laughed.

“lips moisturized now?” he asked, grinning.

i rubbed them together to make a point.

“absolutely!” i said.

“good.”

a few seconds of comfortable silence passed.

“how long have you been waiting for me to ask that question so you could do that?” i had to know.

“oh, months.” he said.

i laughed some more.
