Fic Rec: The Glass Passenger

Hello everyone! I've got a fic rec for you from @witchlightaura, submitted via DM.

Hii! There's a rec for a fic I am very excited about to share. <3 It's Drarry & Remione. Time-travel fix it. Set post-Final Battle of Hogwarts where all three of them gets a fresh chance at life. It's an extremely healing fiction and those who enjoy the Marauders' content + Black Family chaos, its the perfect read! :))

The plot is incredibly well crafted and every character study is so spot-on, it's fascinating for deep dives <3 I fell in love with the depth and accuracy of the author's writing…it's magical. No joke, I've never been so passionate about a fiction before but this one has my whole heart…its chaotic, warm, feels like a hug all the time and extremely addictive!♡

Although keep in mind, it's a slow-burn fic that builds beautifully so be ready for the long haul with a perfect blend of humor, tension and emotional intensity.

Also there are a few bonus scenes of the work which didn't make the original cut so the author posted them separately on ao3 itself, for clear directions to them, it's recommended to drop a comment asking for draft/bonus scenes, someone will get back to you!♡

Hi Phoebe, I don't know if your followers are interested for some humor, fluff, time-travel Drarry, but I sure hope they do. I just read a very flavorful and ridiculously entertaining one. It is a fic from Time Turner MisAdventures 2022 challenge, called "Something Unpredictable" by Klari. Here is the summary from on AO3:

If Hermione has had enough after third year and decides to avenge herself upon careless headmasters and willfully ignorant ministers by keeping the time turner, and then if that time turner is destroyed— what will happen when Harry gets involved in his parents’ love lives? How will Draco Malfoy save the Wizarding World from old men? What if Hermione never discovers the evils of House Elf Enslavement and starts the Societly Promoting Equality for Werewolves instead? And really… does Harry have a gambling problem?

You see, the summary gives you the what-ifs scenarios and the story certainly delivers it. It is not quite your fix-it sort and it is, imo, light-hearted and fun. The main pairings are Drarry, Romione, side ones are wolfstar, james/severus, lucius/lily. That prolly tells which era they time-traveled to :).

The author said it was unbetad, but I think everything seems to work out great even tho a bit fast pace. It was approx. 19k+ long.

Hi Phoebe, idk whether any of your followers read the Black Sheep series by JStevens yet, but I highly rec it for anyone who loves an angsty slow build H/D relationship. Part one of the series is not a hidden gem in no means, it has a good number of hits on ao3. But I guess I thought it should have more interactions or recs on tumblr, I don't really see it mentioned anymore? Part one is a post-war, house-bound! gloriously snarky and positively repressed Draco and recluse! oblivious typical Harry meeting after 5 years. Its a long long journey, approximately takes 140k words. I has always thought the dynamic was very real and authentically them. It ends in a rather bittersweet touch, coz otherwise I'd say it was a therapeutic kind that you might find sometimes resembled 'The ordeal of being known' by louis, or it's just me. And that's where the 2nd part comes. It wonderfully wrapped up the series, but sadly many seems to miss it. It gives the readers the closure that some might not find in the part 1.

And last but not least, thank you Phobe for doing this. I hope you have a good day or night whereever you are see this rec.

Hi, Phoebe!!!!!! This is such a brilliant idea for a blog! Thank you for running it!

I recently read through all of @amelior8or 's Drarry fics and I can't get over them! Two in particular won't let me live my life anymore.

The first is Yesterday, a short fic of only 700ish words, but it really packs a punch. Harry has been cursed to forget every Tuesday and it isn't angsty, despite the memory loss. Draco is his auror partner and makes sure to always help Harry through Thrusdays - he also takes advantage of the situation and it's soooooooooooo good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The second that I just can't get over, is High Aspirations, another fic on the shorter side, though this one is close to 4k. In this one, Harry is just...... Perfectly written. Draco is absolutely stunning, and Harry is definitely justified for being head over heels for him. The story is brilliant and fun and fast paced and soooooooooo worth the 4ish minutes it takes to read through it and let it ruin you for the next several days!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Friday Night Gossip" by jamiesilver is really fun! It's actually Pansy and Draco becoming friends with Hermione in 8th year. Gossip and fun and matchmaking ensue!

Blueberry skies by the_p_in_raspberry is very sweet. Draco owns a bakery in the Muggle world and Hermione finds him and they start a friendship. It takes Harry and Ron a while to warm up to him—especially Ron. But it's very sweet and this Draco really earned his redemption.

I’d like to add The Importance of Being Draco Malfoy to the list! By poppyhills on ao3. Hermione and Draco become friends via studying in the library together and bonding thru their fierce academic competition with each other. Ron and Harry feel betrayed and it’s all so hilarious and lighthearted and soft.

hi! I love the idea of this blog because I know I wouldnt be able to start a whole rec blog! My favorite 8th year fic this year has been Cascade by Avonne. Its so wholesome and mostly hurt-comfort instead of angst. It's something I like to read when I'm feeling down like Nice Things from aideomai. Maybe because they're also touch starved in this one. I really love how Draco is portrayed and how his relationship with Harry develops. I think its a sweet read!

hi how do you usually find fics to read???

ahh hi!! the short answer is i get them from quite a few different places, the long answer is:

tumblr: i find a lot of my shorter reads from @drarryspecificrecsdaily, which posts all of the complete drarry fics posted every day (which is so impressive!) and if one catches my eye ill dive in. i also keep up with quite a few reccers/rec blogs/fic finders: @thedrarrylibrarian, @lostdrarryfics, @drarryficrex, @sitp-recs (for old rec lists/newer single recs), @sweet-s0rr0w, @thebooktopus, @somegymnast, @the-starryknight, @drarry-fic-rambling, and more that im sure im forgetting. you can check out this drarry reccers masterlist for more! i also hoard fic posts that come across my dash like a dragon– i keep them in my drafts, and when im in the mood for something new i just pop into my drafts and see what looks good. generally once ive read all the fics that interest me on a rec list (or the single fic in single recs) ill then reblog the post to get it out of my drafts. the jury is still out on whether this is a good solution, seeing as i have nearly 300 drafts now ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

discord: im in multiple drarry discord servers with fic rec channels. i just save the ones that look interesting and work through them! i like these because writers can self rec, so i see fics i may have missed on tumblr. hit me up in dms if you’d like an invite to the drarry fans or drarry microfic discords

my friends: honestly at this point this is my biggest way of finding longer fics. my friends have a general sense of the kind of story i enjoy, and i trust them when they say a fic is too angsty for me or if itll be just right. im actually slowly working through a list of friend recs right now, ive been tagging the reccers in my softly reading lists!

fests: if there’s a fest i want to keep up with, i follow their tumblr and check the ao3 collection to catch any fics that sound interesting to me! i mostly hear about fests on discord :)

ao3 author pages: if i find a fic i really like from one of the above ways ill usually go to an author’s page and check out the rest of their stuff!! generally ill put their works on my mfl and read through them eventually rather than all at once

hopefully this is helpful? obviously this is just how i personally find fics, there are other ways to find great fics to read!! there are SO many drarry fics that exist and new ones are posted every day so i almost never go into the ao3 tag blind bc it’s overwhelming to me, but it might work for you! ao3’s tag filtered search is great if you’re looking for something specific. i hope this helps you find something new to read!

I think Nice Things by aideomai on ao3 is maybe not a "hidden gem" but still not as popular as I think it deserves to be. To me, it is for those days where you just yearn for comfort and company. The development of Harry's and Draco's relationship here just feels so natural and nothing but warm and cozy. A lot of Drarry is dark and cold and angry which is fine, but I do feel myself longing for something easier but just as beautiful once in a while. One of the only fanfics I ever reread and one of the only 8th year fics I have thoroughly enjoyed. It's special.
