DRAWING BRIGHTON- Final week
A great final session last night, and a full house of artists arrived to sketch our last sitter, David Bramwell.
We've had some wonderful and varied work being created at these sessions, and I hope you've enjoyed looking at the blog if you've not been able to make any of the sessions.
If you did attend any of these events, please do feel free to email me scans/photos of your work, as it is fantastic to look back at the work we've made.
More pictures to come, but for now, here's some of my sketches from the past 6 weeks...
I've no immediate plans to do a 3rd series of Drawing Brighton, but there'll be updates if and when it happens, right here.
For now, if you'd like to keep an eye on my own work, which regularly features the wonderful people of Brighton, then please do look at my website.
I hold regular life drawing and art events in Brighton both by myself, and with Artists, Models, iNK, as well as Sussex County Arts Club.
The final week of Drawing Brighton is upon us, and we have a wonderful Brightonian coming to sit for us- David Bramwell, a 'one man cottage industry'.
Writer, speaker and co-creator of the now infamous 'Cheeky Guide to Brighton', as well as host of Brighton's Catalyst Club, he devotes a lot of energy and time to recognising and celebrating people and communities around us in this curious and colourful city.
If you'd like to come along to this final session, you can book a space online here:
kateshields.eventbrite.co.uk/
David can next be seen hosting this years' TEDxBrighton event. Click here for his website, and news about his many fascinating projects.
DRAWING BRIGHTON- Week 5: Billie Rae
For our penultimate session, the wonderful Billie Rae sat for us at Drawing Brighton.
A modern-day Ziegfeld girl, with her fantastic custom-made outfits and ostrich feather fans, she was an absolute pleasure to draw.
Drawing by me.
To see Billie in action, have a look at her website for upcoming performance dates.
Check back soon for news about our final sitter for this series...
Another wonderful Drawing Brighton session- last night we had poet Rosy Carrick sitting for us.
Here's some photos, and a couple of my drawings, with more to come.
Stay tuned for who we will have sitting next week, for the penultimate Drawing Brighton..!
Spaces are filling up for tomorrow's session where we'll have the wonderful poet, Rosy Carrick sitting for us for week 4 of Drawing Brighton, at the Artist Residence Hotel.
Do reserve yourself a place by clicking here: kateshields.eventbrite.co.uk/
See you there!

DRAWING BRIGHTON- Week 3: Raphael Fox Fisher
A wonderful session last night (and this time, with photos!) with our sitter for week 3: artist, screen printer & My Transsexual Summer contributor, Fox.
Some really great and varied work was produced- here's some examples:
Thanks to all who came along to draw, and to Fox for sitting for us!
You can follow Fox's creative work here, and his blog about all things trans here.
Next week's sitter will be announced very soon...!
TOMORROW: Sitting for week 3 of Drawing Brighton is artist, screen printer and My Transsexual Summer contributor, Raphael Fox Fisher.
Fox recently sat for a portrait as part of my 'Friends and other animals' series, and I'm looking forward to drawing him again- do come along and join us at the Artist Residence Hotel, tomorrow from 7.
You can reserve a place by clicking here: kateshields.eventbrite.co.uk
For Week 3 of Drawing Brighton, we have a very close friend of mine sitting for us at the Artist Residence Hotel- artist and screen printer, Raphael Fox Fisher. Some of you may recognise Fox from the recent C4 show, 'My Transsexual Summer', which he contributed to during the later stages of his transition. He also sat for a portrait which appears in my current exhibition at the hotel.
Post-tv show, Fox has become an active supporter and spokesperson for the trans community, both in Brighton and across the UK, and is a full time artist and screen printer.
You can read more about Fox and his work on his website: salutehq.com

DRAWING BRIGHTON- Week 2: Honour Mission!
This week, we were very lucky to have the wonderful performer Honour Mission sitting for us.
She posed as her signature act, 'Attack of the 50 foot Woman' for a few standing shorter poses, before sitting for 2 traditional longer poses for the assembled artists.
I didn't bring my camera (oops!) so no photos, but above is a biro sketch by me.
Next week's sitter to be announced soon....!
Tomorrow...Attack of the 50ft Woman!
Performer, Honour Mission, will be our sitter for this week's Drawing Brighton! We start at 7pm at the Artist Residence Hotel.

DRAWING BRIGHTON- Week 1: The Flirtinis!
Wednesday saw Brighton burlesque duo, The Flirtinis, creating a series of poses for the first of 6 new Drawing Brighton sittings.

And a couple of sketches by me...

Next week's sitter will be announced shortly...
A wonderful start to Drawing Brighton at the Artist Residence last night, where we were lucky enough to have the Flirtinis sitting for us.
First, we had some short and dynamic poses, with the girls dressed as nurses, followed by a costume change and 2 longer poses.
I'll post up scans of some drawings very soon, and announce next weeks sitter for those who weren't able to make it last night.
Thanks to the Flirtinis, and thanks to everyone who came along to draw! A really enjoyable session :)
