headcanon: 😭 I can totally picture him still being in love with MC and constantly picking fights with her just to keep some kind of contact. "WHY DO YOU KEEP ENABLING HIS NONSENSE? HE NEEDS TO LEARN SOME RESPECT, AND YOU'RE REWARDING HIM!" And Lane immediately goes: "BECAUSE I'M HIS FATHER, HE'S MY SON, AND HE CAN SWEAR IF HE WANTS TO." 😭😭 I can just imagine him laughing and doing absolutely everything he can to annoy MC through their kid, with harmless things... or at least things he considers harmless, like letting him stay up late on school nights, teaching him insults, or letting him skip proper meals in favor of junk food. And then he'd hit MC with something like, "You look beautiful when you're angry." LMAOOO. I can also picture him spending the whole afternoon with their son, and right before dropping him off at MC's place, while they're sitting in the car, he'd casually ask: "So... how's your mom doing? Has she... uh... asked about me at all?" He says it like he couldn't care less, glancing at the kid through the rearview mirror while secretly waiting for the answer, hoping there's still a chance. "No... she never does." Lane just gives a small nod, starts tapping his fingers against the steering wheel, then keeps fishing for something, trying to get any little piece of information out of him.
JAJAJA, that's exactly how I imagine him. 😭 He'd spend the entire car ride pretending he doesn't care.
"I'm not asking because I miss her. I just need to know if she's still as annoying as ever."
Five seconds later...
"Does she still make that soup I hated? You know... that one."
"..."
"Does she still have that plant in the kitchen? The one that was always dying?"
"..."
"Does she still use my mug?"
The poor kid already knows exactly where this conversation is going. 💀
Kid: "...Dad."
Lane: "What?"
Kid: "You're asking about Mom again."
Lane: "I'm not asking about your mother."
"..."
"...Does she have a boyfriend?"
😭😭😭
And I feel like their son would inherit both of their sarcasm.
Kid: "Why don't you just ask her yourself?"
Lane: "...Because we're adults."
Kid: "That didn't answer my question."
Then, when he finally drops him off...
MC opens the door.
They just stare at each other for a few seconds.
MC: "You're ten minutes late."
Lane: "Traffic."
MC: "You live four blocks away."
Lane: "...Heavy traffic."
Meanwhile, their son is already walking inside, listening to them argue in the background like it's the soundtrack of his entire childhood.
The funniest part is that Lane would come up with the dumbest excuses just to keep showing up.
"I came because he forgot a sock."
"I came because I found a pencil."
"I came because he said he wanted one more hug."
MC, arms crossed:
"Lane... that's a candy wrapper."
"..."
"Yeah."
"But it was his candy wrapper."
And the line:
"You look beautiful when you're angry."
Has exactly the energy of someone who's already accepted that she's going to be mad at him anyway, so he might as well enjoy the view.
MC: "Did you teach him swear words?"
Lane: "No."
Kid: "Yeah, he did."
Lane: "...Technically, I just expanded his vocabulary."
MC: "He's six years old!"
Lane: "It's never too early to learn that 'idiot' has a very elegant pronunciation."
MC: "LANE!"
With the most satisfied little grin:
"There it is."
"You still look gorgeous when you make that face."
And their son, without even looking up from his handheld console:
"...Are you guys done, or should I wait in the car?"
I can totally picture him flirting with MC every chance he gets, but never making it too obvious, because it'd hurt too much if she rejected him again. Or maybe he'd feel like she was right to divorce him, convincing himself that she was always too good for him because of his low self-esteem. Even so, he'd still be incredibly protective of MC, because to him, she'll always be family no matter how long they've been divorced. If she ever had a problem, he'd help however he could. They'd still have a really close relationship... basically a friendship, but Lane would never admit that shit because he'd feel like he got friendzoned. 😭😂 Deep down, he'd still think of MC as his wife, the love of his life, his family, even if they aren't together anymore. And when it comes to their kids, if it's a boy he'd absolutely spoil him rotten, and if it's a girl she'd be his little princess. He'd let them get away with almost anything and take them anywhere they wanted to go. I can also picture MC trusting him enough to let the kids stay with him for a few extra days whenever they wanted, or whenever they needed to go somewhere, like the zoo, Disneyland, amusement parks, or things like that.
Hiiiii Lalyyyyyyy!! :3

I made a drawing that goes completely against my principles. 😭 I hate all kinds of drugs, whether it's alcohol or anything stronger, I genuinely can't stand them... but Lane just looks so good with a cigarette. I can totally picture him teasing me by blowing smoke in my face just to annoy me, not out of malice, just because he's playful.
For the second drawing, I wanted to capture the look on his face when he's staring at MC for way too long, then getting frustrated and angry at himself because he realizes exactly what he's doing... but he keeps doing it anyway, feeling like an idiot.
LMAOOO 😭😭 I have two silly questions.
How do you think Lane would react if he found out MC had one of those childhood promises with her male best friend or roommate? Like, they made a deal as teenagers that if they were both still single by the time they turned 60, they'd just marry each other. 😂
Would he laugh it off because it's such a dumb promise, or would he actually get annoyed over something that ridiculous? I can totally see it becoming peak comedy. 😭
And another question! Someone asked about MC having a loving mom, but what if MC's mom or dad was actually really strict and always pushed her to succeed? Like, they don't approve of Lane at all and openly criticize him right in front of him, saying something like:
"Sweetheart, you should aim higher. A doctor, or maybe a surgeon."
How do you think Lane would react to that? 😭
Love you, Lalyyyyyy!! 💕
