A little Arlathan AU as a treat to me!
"The Dread Wolf inspired hope in my friends...and fear in my enemies. Not unlike Inquisitor I suppose."
"Ma lasa banal ghil'ana!"
"What would you have me say? That I was the great adversary in your people's mythology?"
"I would have had you trust me,"
"Solas...var lath vir suledin,"
"I wish it could, Vhenan"
"Remember what happened; do not dwell on it. You can not save people from themselves,"
Inquisitor Daesyra Lavellan
they had no right to do this to us
I missed them <3
girl let us hear your rant about rook! apparently one of the 'community council' (don't get me started) described an earlier iteration of the character as 'starlord without the charm'. they actually used to be worse somehow lol
Ahh yes, the community council 🤡
I really wanted to play as the Inquisitor again but I didn't hate the idea of a new protag. Especially once they confirmed we could be a Grey Warden again. I had planned my Rook before the game came out, pretty excited to start. I was so sure we'll get to give our character the personality we want either through dialogue options or through RP, I mean, it's a Bioware game, a Dragon Age game. And then we got... Whatever the hell that was 🙃
Rook has no personality, they're so bland and boring. No matter which dialogue option you choose they sound the same. And it's definitely not the VA fault, the voices were good! It's the way they were directed to deliver their lines. I chose Bryony Corrigan as my Rook's voice and I actually really loved her voice and accent.
And people who defended this by saying people only complain about Rook being boring because they can't be evil. Like??? You can't be anything! You can't be mildly mean or rude, you can't be calm, stoic, serious. You can't even be funny. Hell, in some moments you can't even choose a dialogue option because Rook just speaks on their own. The whole time I was playing I was just repeating "SHE WOULD NOT SAY THAT." And I get it, you can RP, you can make things up about your OCs and all but man, you need something to work with. And for me personally, Rook didn't have enough personality to begin with to fill in the gaps with my own headcanons.
The only thing I enjoyed about Rook was the CC lmao. I loved how she looked, loved the hair. Some of the armours were pretty okay as well. I loved the character model and how they ran around and moved in combat but that's it </3
I really wanted to love this game, I really, really did. I gave it a chance, I defended it many times but man... It just ended up breaking my heart.
I think one thing that a lot of people fundamentally get wrong about Solas is that his plans were never about bringing back the past, it was about securing the future.
He didn’t want to recreate Elvhenan. He said as much in DAI when he explicitly discouraged Dorian from glorifying Arlathan or putting it on a pedestal. Instead, he urged Dorian to ‘free the people of all races enslaved in Thedas’. Not just Elves, not just Spirits, all of them.
Solas’ story was never about a fixation on the past, at least not in the sense that people like to accuse him of. He did not view the past with some rose-colored nostalgia. It was not the empire he missed, but the world itself—Thedas as it was meant to be.
Imagine if you were suddenly flung into the future and found that Climate Change had finally rendered Earth to be the nightmare world we fear. The planet is sick and dying. Nature itself has been twisted, perverted, rendered dangerous and made into something that most people fear, and no one believes you when you try to tell them that nature is, well, natural. In fact, they call you insane, a heretic, someone to be shunned. They say your ideas are dangerous lies, even when you know them to be the truth.
And in this sick, dying world, where people suffer and live in fear, you see no future worth living in. You see that the damage is too much. The world won’t survive much longer unless something is done. Against all odds you’ve found the solution, a way to restore the Earth, revitalize the natural world, and make the planet healthy and stable for all time. It’ll come at a cost, people will suffer, but isn’t it worth it to stop the end of all things? Isn’t it worth it to ensure that life can still sustain itself in a century? A millennia? An eternity?
That’s what was on the line for Solas, that was what motivated him. DATV unfortunately dropped this ticking clock (despite alluding to it in both the podcast and Tevinter Nights) in favor of flattening a fascinating dilemma into something boring and digestible, which is just such an incredible waste.
I think I’m at a point where I just have zero feelings for Veilguard—I’m not upset, I just…don’t care. Which I think is somehow probably worse than being upset.
It’s just so uninspiring to me, I don’t have really anything else to say.
sorry but i have to laugh when i remember how the main problem in trespasser was "omg solas has spies in the inquisition should we disband and do it the safer way or risk it but have more resources" only for datv to go "spies? what spies? every single modern elf hates fen'harel none of them would ever even think of working for him!"
I also want that guy's wife
i like to imagine she always has a dagger strapped to her thigh. and not necessarily for self defense
