Gotta tell you guys something wild in the Chinese fan sphere

So some fanartist drew a “sexy” (read: booby) version of a (cartoon) character who is traditionally very non-sexualised. Fans of the character got mad about it because it’s kind of groundbreaking how that character is written and portrayed and this art totally ignores the entire point of the character. They demanded the art be deleted. In response to that other people said, well what the fanartist did may be distateful but they have every right to draw what they’re into. The two sides fight for days and each starts a harassment campaign and even report their “opponents’” accounts.

So far so typical. But things eventually come to a head and they decide that this will be settled by votes - not through a poll. Through donations to a children’s education charity via each side’s portal. Whoever can get the highest amount of donation wins.

And that is how this charity received over 1 million in donations in three days lol. Oh btw the “freedom of expression” side won by a landslide (960k to 40k)

Unrelated to my last post but I think it’s worth noting I finally got round to changing my tumblr colour palette to goth and I feel an unusual satisfaction with the new look but also undeniable irritation at myself for not exploring the settings sooner

I just remembered that for the first time ever

I dreamt about my therapist and going to therapy again.

And it was basically me just going back because of my constant impulse to update her on how much better I’m doing, look I can even relax enough to take my hijab off in our session and I really wanna tell her about myself and my life

And she’s being very supportive but she’s also slightly distracted because *snorts* she’s got an episode of taskmaster on XD

i cannot emphasize enough how important it is that you should ideally give birth in a fully equipped and staffed medical facility or if you insist on giving birth through an alternative method you should be within minutes of a hospital and i mean under 5 minutes if you’d like me to be really fucking frank

like i can get on board with so much feminist theory and stuff, truly, and i do acknowledge that obstetrics and gynaecology as a field holds blind spots that are egregious (e.g. infant and maternal mortality in the black community) but there is no empowerment in risky birthing practices that our foremothers, and i’m not mincing words, often suffered through. birthing is natural, but it is not “easy” or even “innate”, it is best practiced guided and witnessed by those that know what to do in an emergency. you are not reconnecting to any innate feminine nature by practicing dangerous birthing practices—you are recreating a time when the bodies and lives of women barely mattered and it was expected that death would/could occur at insane and tragic rates.

this is a hill i will spend the rest of my days fighting on because while i am not interested in birthing children myself, i have an incredible passion and interest in the field of labour and delivery. it’s been one of my greatest joys to play even a small part in delivering neonates. i do not want anyone to risk their babies over a deeply, deeply misguided idea of free birth being “the natural way” when natural is not always synonymous with the safest way.

So many people think it's either midwife or doctor. It's not. Have your midwife or doula in the hospital room with you, I promise the doctors don't give a shit. Hell, you can have her do the delivery itself and just have the doctors there as emergency backup! But for the love of your baby, go to the fucking hospital.

yup. a lot of hospitals are willing to work with you to realize your birthing plan as much as they can within safe limits and parameters. my hospital is closely and highly allied with midwives all up and down the coast, with the explicit instruction to call the midwife when we know a labouring patient is about to deliver so we can respect their plan. genuinely, you can have almost any kind of birth you want—just make sure that there are qualified professionals in attendance, and it’s not just midwives or OBGYNS you need. you have no idea when you’ll need a respiratory therapist on call, you have no idea when you will need a blood transfusion within minutes or risk certain death, L&D nurses do not have the same training as NICU nurses if a baby declines rapidly. it’s a literal thousand things that can go wrong and you should be in the best place for them to go wrong.

I highly agree with all of this, I think it’s worth pointing out though that in my experience a lot of women don’t try to have ‘natural’ births or home births in the belief that it will be better due to how natural it is, it’s typically because the hospital experience for many women is so bad and invasive that they do it at home because it feels safer.

My mother’s always gone to the hospital, but I’ve heard plenty of different stories from her friends and their experiences doing hospital births and then switching to home births, and the one unifying factor in all of them is how they switched to home births because of the poor treatment they received while in labour. Hospital staff are often extremely pushy about rushing the birth, pushing a c-section to get it over with quickly even if there’s no medical need for it because they’re in need of the room for other patients, they can force uncomfortable and invasive treatments, and as a whole put the birthing person through a whole lot of medical abuse.

I still agree with your post op, I think the risks outweigh the benefits when it comes to natural vs hospital births, but I do think it’s important to understand where women are coming from to help reduce harm.

as in you'll never achieve the perfect daily routine, sleep schedule, coping mechanisms, mannerisms, fashion sense etc. even after years and years of healing and improvement and self-discovery. you will never be so good at life that you manage to utilize every waking moment. its great to be productive and all but sometimes you'll suck ass. sometimes you'll take eight hours to be done with a twenty minute job. you'll prioritize the wrong thing. you'll sleep for 12 hrs just to avoid being awake. you'll relapse. and you'll relapse again. you'll forget to turn in the assignment. you'll order too little food. life is far too large and complex for you to even experience it completely, much less try to make sense of and control it. you can't. please give up on that and be at peace with the hours you lose. they are not separate from your life.

not even two years after the 2024 racist riots and attempted pogroms, we are back to more racist riots and attempted pogroms.

a mosque in scotland had to be put into lockdown. they are going door-to-door with hit lists and addresses in northern ireland, setting houses alight. they firebombed an imam's house in manchester. people of colour are being targeted and attacked by racist mobs in the street in broad daylight.

and instead of widespread condemnation or wall-to-wall coverage, the UK media and political establishment is filling air time talking about the "legitimate concerns" people have about "illegal migrants"

Yesterday at the wedding we went to they served cheesecake for dessert

My mum and littlest sister didn’t want theirs, so I used the chocolate fountain treat trays to bring them home so I can enjoy them today :D

Is the cheesecake particularly great? Not really it’s just your average supermarket cheesecake

But any cheesecake is a win with me :D

I promise I will start eating better and working out again it’s just been Eid and then busy and then treats and stress and treats and Eid again and stress I’m fine this is fine (ignores PCOS monster)

I am going to make sure to start eating more vegetables this week. *nods firmly*
