Love the wild places on the planet that make your jaw drop with beauty. The Canadian Rockies is one of those places. Stoked to get to spend some time in these mountains with @sonnietrotter. #explorealberta
This is the coolest outer space animation ever. It shows the Crab Supernova explosion, happened in 1054, and its evolution into the remnant it is now - called the Crab Nebula. Basically a thousand years speeded up into less than a minute.
Modern understanding that the Crab Nebula was created by a supernova, an explosion of a massive supergiant star, dates to 1921 when Carl Otto Lampland announced he had seen changes in its structure. This eventually led to the conclusion that the creation of the Crab Nebula corresponds to the bright SN 1054 supernova recorded by Chinese astronomers in AD 1054. There is also a 13th-century Japanese reference to an appearance of a new or âguestâ star in Meigetsuki. It was then so bright it was visible during the daytime for 23 days.

For years I have pulled stars from my body: Here is the joy, here is the grief, here is the slaughter I have shaped into stars. I have polished the stars & buried them.

Fantastic conversation with Cheryl Strayed about storytelling, the challenges of writing about oneself, and the three ancient motifs that all great stories have in common.Â

âIn this picture, I am standing next to listings of the actual Apollo Guidance Computer (AGC) source code,â Hamilton says in an email. âTo clarify, there are no other kinds of printouts, like debugging printouts, or logs, or what have you, in the picture.â Itâs just her and her code. (Quote from Vox article)

Heart of the forestÂ
A fine boat is that coffin carved in the coppice of feelings. I too drift in it downbloodstream, younger still than your eye. Now you are young as a bird dropped dead in March snow, now it comes to you, sings you its love song from France. You are light: you will sleep through my spring till itâs over. I am lighter: in front of strangers I sing.
